3 Fashion Rules I Always Break For A Chic Winter Outfit

Guys, welcome to DECEMBER. I’m not sure where time has gone but the end of the decade is around the corner and I’m already sitting here thinking of outfit ideas for 2020 (PS: You can bookmark this outfit in that category!) With winter outfit trends flooding our feeds, we are all thinking puffer jackets, thigh-high boots and velvet, but today I want to show you how to really be ahead of the pack with your look. Some fashion rules were meant to be broken and these three are ones that I consistently break to make sure that my winter outfit is always on *insert fire emoji here*. By the way, I’ve never been much of a rule breaker. I was never that girl in school who took risks and broke curfew, I was the girl who insisted that black and beige really did work as a colour combination.

DO Wear White in the Winter

I have no idea why you aren’t supposed to wear all white in the winter but I chucked that rule out the window a long time ago. Embrace all white this time of year. It looks elegant and beautiful and you’ll be sure to stand out in the sea of black coats!

DO Wear Sequins In The Day

Sequins used to only be accepted for the evening but now personal style reigns supreme and there is nothing wrong with wanting to sparkle all day long. I love styling sequins for the day. The key is to match it with other casual pieces to balance the look out (more on this soon!)

DONT Take One Thing Off Before You Leave The House

The great Coco Chanel said to always take one thing off before you leave the house and although I agree with her on most fashion related topics, this is the one rule that I constantly break. I love to stack up accessories from ear cuffs to bracelets. This is the one time I will say, more is more – it just adds some personality to your look!

Remember that you wear the outfit, not the other way around. People can always tell when you feel uncomfortable or out of sorts in something so remember that you look great, so you should feel it too!

What To Wear When The Christmas Party Dress Code is Semi Formal…

Dress codes are always so tricky when it comes to party dressing, particularly the dreaded “Semi Formal” For most of my friends, those two words seem to be the most confusing but I think I’ve perfected the look. Funny story about this christmas party outfit, it was inspired by one I saw on Instagram that was a total Valentino look but I put together with pieces in my closet. It just goes to show that you well and truly can make anything look luxe! Here are my tips for dressing the part of semi -formal

Skirts are Allowed

You don’t have to wear a dress for a semi-formal occasion. You can wear a skirt if it’s not too casual. Think a step up from your everyday piece but nothing covered in sequins or anything crazy. Mesh pieces like the skirt I’m wearing work super well (think tulle!)

Be Conscious of Footwear

You can wear flats for a semi-formal occasion but make sure that they are still dressy! Think something with embellishments, or pointed toes. Avoid sneakers or white soles.

Avoid These Casual Pieces

Avoid T-shirts, sneakers and jeans. That is just far too casual. If you’re looking for a good top to wear, always rely on a good silk shirt. This is a must for every woman in her closet. Mine is actually from M&S and is machine washable!

3 Tips For Petite Girls To Style Knee High Boots For Your Winter Outfit

People are most surprised when they meet me to see how petite I am. A lot of you think I’m pushing 6 foot on my Instagram when in reality I’m 5’1. Of course, knowing your angles works well but it’s about dressing for your body type. When pulling together a winter outfit, especially one with over the knee boots, it can be really hard to not look squashed when you’re petite. Here are my three tips for my fellow petite ladies out there, to style OTK boots and look taller:

Leave A Gap… Or Don’t

If you are wearing a skirt or a dress make sure there is a clear point where the boots end and where your dress/skirt begins. Even if you’re wearing tights, it helps to have clear lines in your outfit. If you’re wearing black boots though and black jeans, it’s okay to have them merge. It will make your legs look so long.

Opt for Pointed Toes

Pointed toed shoes always make petite girls look a bit taller. I like to go for boots that have pointed fronts, especially my OTK ones.

Avoid The Slouch

I love slouchy boots but unfortunately, they just don’t look as good on me as they do on my super tall friends. For petite figures, a more figure-hugging boot always works better. It helps define your body.

How To Wear A Top to Toe Leather Outfit This Winter

Is it just me or is there something very futuristic about the head to the leather look? I’m not sure if it’s because we are about to celebrate the start of a new decade (yes, let that sink in…) or if we just love how sleek and put together an all-leather outfit makes us feel, the leather look is here to dominate. For me, it’s like a power outfit. I feel unstoppable when I pair together a leather pleated skirt and a leather shirt like I have here.

It’s super simple to recreate this look, but for the colder months, you can just add tights under your leather skirt or swap it for a pair of leather-look trousers. You can also layer a turtleneck underneath your leather shirt. Don’t shy away from leather that is a different colour other than black.

If you live in a warmer country and still want to get this look, I would recreate this outfit without the tights and swap the boots for ballerina flats. You can also try a leather look dress like this one.
