We’ve all been there. You’re curled up on the sofa with the latest Netflix show and you get the call. How could you forget that holiday party was tonight! You know what I’m talking about right? In those moments, all sense of what makes a good Christmas party outfit, or any party outfit for that matter, goes out the window. The stress of having to come up with an adorable yet casual party outfit can make us even later! So what do you do? You come to me of course! For situations like these I rely on my go to look; leather leggings and an embellished jumper. Note; this makes for a really cute and casual new years eve outfit too!
Leather leggings are something all of you love to see in outfits because everyone is always wondering how to style them! Leather leggings like these are a super skinny fit so I like to style them with something that is looser. You still want that wow factor in your outfit, without looking like you tried too hard, so avoid a basic sweater and instead go for an embellished one. This ba&sh one with a low back and the crystal details is the perfect statement jumper for a casual holiday outfit! So, the next time this happens to you, remember this post, pour yourself a drink and keep your makeup simple with one of these looks.
I’ve linked to some more embellished and statement jumpers below in every price point so you can create this look too! What do you think of it? Comment below!

Have you noticed how in the past few years, designer logo sweaters have been on the rise? It started with Gucci, moved on to Dior and now that cruise collection Chanel sweater is trending too. There’s no doubt that come winter, we are always on the hunt for cute sweater outfit ideas but is a designer sweater really worth your buck?
A few years ago I took the plunge and got the Jadior 8 sweater; since then Dior have continued to make this jumper every year and in a variety of colours. Have I ever regretted the purchase? No, but I do think that there are certain designer sweaters that are not worth your investment. When making these types of purchases I like to keep three things in mind:
1.Will I still love it when it’s no longer “trending?”
Do you remember the Gucci T-shirt? Everyone ran to grab it but it’s easy to sometimes get swept up with what everyone else is buying, especially when you see the amazing Instagram photos that come out of it. But what you really need to ask yourself is will you really still love it when everyone else has abandoned it in the back of their wardrobe? If the answer is yes, then you know it’s a piece you really love, not one that you’re just getting because of someone or something else. Chances are you’ll be able to create tons of outfits because it matches your personal style too.
2. How wearable is the material?
When I was buying this sweater, I found the material to be super important. This one is cashmere and I knew that it would keep me warm which meant that I could get a lot more wear out of it. If the material is something you know you won’t be able to wear for a significant portion of the year then is it really worth the investment?
3. How “classic” is it?
I always believe that you should never let a trend drive your purchasing decisions. If you find that a trend or a piece actually suits you, your body type and your style, then it’s worth the thought. If the piece doesn’t work with your wardrobe, your style, or just you generally, that won’t change no matter how many times you see it on your insta feed; it’s not classic for you. It also helps if a piece is a classic, like a Chanel flap bag, or this Dior sweater, essentially something the brand keeps making, because then you know your purchase is always going to be stylish (Key: There’s always a difference between trendy and stylish!)
So, on that note, what sweaters or designer pieces are you eyeing right now? Until then, shop my favourite sweaters below! I’ve even linked to high street versions that look designer.

In a world where trends sometimes dominate, it can be easy to get lost in a crowd of velvet and leopard print. So, how do you create a chic holiday party outfit that lets you shine through the noise? Not to worry, because this Christmas season I have some tricks up my sleeve for creating the ultimate party outfit if you’re hoping to be the belle of the ball (Want to catch that special someone’s attention? I got you, girl!)
1. Classic does not mean boring
There’s a reason that classics don’t go out of style, it’s because they are always in fashion and they always look fabulous. Sometimes opting for a classic silhouette actually plays in your favour and helps you stand out. In this outfit, I combined a classic silk camiwith this tulle skirt. The skirt, although a statement piece, is still a classic piece. My colour combination is also nothing new but the combination makes for a showstopping look!
2. Have a conversation piece
Whether it’s an interesting ring, or in my case a bag that looks like a book, have a special piece that pulls your outfit together and adds a bit of personality. The number of times I’ve carried this book out and have had some of the funniest conversations! I know friends who have their favourite rings which always catch eyes. You never know how just one conversation might totally change your evening! Here are some of my favourite accessories to get you started:
3. Bring the attitude
Nothing speaks louder than confidence. Wing your eyeliner and put your best foot forward because I always believe that beauty begins on the inside. Look in the mirror and remind yourself how beautiful and amazing you are; let that shine through! Being comfortable in your own skin automatically sets you apart from the crowd! Haven’t you noticed that when you wear something you love and you know you look great in, you always receive more compliments than if it’s something you’re unsure about?
I can’t wait to see all your amazing standout looks. Be sure to share them with me by using the hashtag #blameitonshloka on Instagram! Just a quick note; if you’re looking for a different kind of party outfit, I’ve linked to some amazing ones in my dedicated Christmas section. You can also stay tuned for a great casual party outfit coming soon!

Since I was a little girl, I’ve always had a soft spot for velvet. If you’ve been reading my blog for a little while you’ll remember my story of my first velvet dress, where my mother had little bells stitched in so everywhere I walked, I jingled. It was pretty magical. So, when December come around and I’m looking for holiday evening dresses, I always have my eye out for velvet. If you’ve noticed, I’ve actually shown you velvet every year. Last year I brought in new years eve in a velvet jumpsuit, earlier this year I showed you how to wear it for Valentine’s day and today I’m sharing how to wear it to your next Christmas party. Also, don’t forget about new years eve dresses, wouldn’t velvet be perfect for that too?
You could wear any old dress to your next Christmas party, or you could wear one from my ultimate list of holiday dresses for 2018, including the best velvet ones around. Scroll down for my selection and to see how I styled my current favourite velvet piece. I opted for a dress in a deep wine colour because I love jewel tones at this time of the year. I accessorised with a single pearl necklace to really accentuate the neckline of the dress. I wanted to have a little bit of fun with my accessories so of course, I went for an evil eye bag in (three guesses?) velvet too.
Are you a fan of this material? What do you like to wear this time of year?

What some of you may not know about me, is that I actually love makeup. One of the reasons I love the holidays is because I also love creating holiday makeup looks whether that be a Christmas party makeup tutorial or showing you my latest smokey eye hack. I’ve never been one for an overly complicated makeup look and when it comes to parties or special occasions, I like to keep things natural, even if I am going for something bold. Less is more right? The same can be said for products.
I won’t lie to you, I can’t resist a good eyeshadow palette or a brand new highlighter but after having trialled and tested so many, you start to realise that you don’t actually need all those pieces to create something fabulous. You just need a few great makeup products, or in this case, just one. I had the opportunity to play around with the new Chanel lip palette and instead of creating just one, lip-based makeup look, I’ve created three very different holiday party makeup looks, just for you, for whatever mood you’re trying to create with your outfit. Not only is this palette a part of their limited edition Christmas make up range, but it is the first lip palette ever done by Chanel!

BLUSHING BEAUTY
You are elegant, soft, feminine and girly. You prefer to keep your look natural. Simple is key, you don’t like to overthink or over do. You don’t need to either. You have a warm energy about you and although you may not always want to be in the spotlight, everyone can’t help but be drawn to you anyways.
How To:
One of my favourite makeup hacks is to use lipstick as a blush. The matching tones actually look so beautiful while still managing to be subtle and natural.
Use the same colour combo on your lips. Mix with some lip balm to lighten the shades and make it more natural.
For an extra touch, use the Chanel Illuminating Powder on the highest part of the cheekbones under the eyes.
EYE CATCHER
You are bold and fiery. You aren’t afraid to speak what’s on your mind and you are always open to an adventure. You have a fearless and beautiful nature. It doesn’t matter where the night takes you, you’re ready for anything. Nothing stops you or gets in your way. If looks could kill, you’ve got a stare to prove it.
How To:
Don’t be afraid of using your lipstick on your eyelids. It makes for a fabulous eyeshadow! The high pigment sits beautifully on your skin and the consistency means it will last all night long.
Use the lightest shade of the palette on your eyelids. Dab on to cover the lid. Use the darkest shade in and around the crease. Blend.
Make a thin line with brown eyeliner and add a touch of mascara.
You are classic with a twist. Elegant, but never boring. You are full of surprises and never fail to keep even your closest guessing. You put a smile on everyone’s face and you have an amazing attention to detail; you know that’s what makes the difference. Always smiling, you light up the room.
How To:
Of course, a lip palette should also be used on the lips. A great trick is top up the colour of your choice with the darkest colour around your cupids bow and the bottom of your lips, and fill in with your lightest colour. It’s a way of creating a highlight.
For a truly sparkling finish, boldly apply the Chanel Rouge Coco gloss in Flaming Lips. It has a sparkling shine that almost looks like glitter. Trust me, it looks amazing and it’s the perfect finisher to a natural holiday makeup look.

With less than 25 days to go to Christmas, your calendar is probably full of holiday parties to go for, which means that you need to find the best holiday outfits for each one. Luckily, I have an array of holiday outfit ideas coming your way over the next couple of weeks but what better way to start than with a dose of shine! (Don’t forget to check out my Christmas section, it’s full of makeup looks, outfits and gift guides!) I always find that my first answer to what to wear to a holiday Christmas party, or any holiday party for that matter is sequins. You now have an excuse to be as sparkly as you want. Why not right? I love a good a sequins outfit and one of my must-have pieces in any holiday wardrobe is a sequins skirt.
The key to styling sequins for your holiday party is to strike a balance. A sparkly piece is a statement in itself so you don’t have to do much else if you don’t want to except, let it shine! I paired my sequins skirt with a plain white turtleneck. The combination is elegant and comfortable, while still being bold. This way you can either dress the entire look up for a more formal occasion or down for something more fun and casual. I finished my outfit with these beautiful, satin tie up heels from Gianvitto Rossi. They are one of my favourite pairs and are perfect for the holidays, don’t you think?
