Monday Update #21

A Summer Monday

Guys how can it be one of the last few summers of Monday? Where has our summer even gone? I suppose mine has escaped me through hard work and the moving process. Moving apartments can be such a task when you’re surrounded with boxes and trying to build a chest of drawers. Trust me, it was quite a hilarious scene! This week I wanted to get your opinion on a few topics I wanted to cover soon. I’m going to talk about when the right time to think about the next season is and what the A/W trends for next season are. What do you guys think?

This Past Week

Guys literally all I’ve been doing this past week is moving! It’s been a lot of moving boxes, moving furniture, organising clothes and moving some more boxes! I think that explains why I haven’t been as active right? Do you guys have any good moving tips you’d like to share with me?

Happy Sunday 💫👸🏽 See more on insta stories 📸

Summer Sunglasses for Everyone

I’ve saved the best for last for the final instalment of my Summer Sunglasses series. We’ve covered a variety of sunglasses shapes for all face shapes but I couldn’t leave out one of my favourite shapes, the cat eye. What I love most about this specific pair is that it isn’t like your traditional cat eye with a thick frame. I love that the frame for these sunglasses is just on top and the lens is mirrored. It takes a classic shape and makes it so much cooler! Essentially, this is one of those sunglasses that can complete your favourite go-to outfit and immediately elevate it to street style level!

What’s been your favourite pair from this series?

Sweat Proof Makeup Tips

Sweat Proof Makeup for Summer Days

No one loves a fresh summer makeup look as much as me, but when you’re sweating under the sun you need some sweat proof makeup. From the best summer makeup for the beach, to the best summer foundations, I’ve covered my favourite products to keep you glowing. I use all these products on the regular so I know they work. Plus, having grown up in India, one of the most humid places, I’ve learnt a thing or two about how to keep your make up in place!

PRIMER & BB CREAM

Keeping your foundation or tinted moisturiser on can be a challenge in the heat. That’s where a primer comes in. Primers help to keep the make up on your face and set your base in. The Bare Minerals primer is one of the best because it’s gentle on skin and works really well.

Along with the Bare Minerals  primer I swear by the Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue. It’s a tinted moisturiser with SPF (two birds one stone!) and gives that great sunny glow.

HIGHLIGHTER

Highlighter is one of my favourite tools in my beauty arsenal. It’s perfect for achieving high cheek bones and that touch of shine that summer calls for. A liquid highlighter will always yield better results. My favourite highlighter is from french beauty brand Chantecaille. The Chantecaille Liquid Lumiere comes in a variety of shades to best suit your skin tone and you only need a few drops to get that stunning shine! Plus, it stays on your skin all day and all night!

FOUNDATION

Some days and most nights, a tinted moisturiser is just not enough. For events like that you need a long wear foundation. Summer is full of parties, weddings and more events that require long hours and make up that can keep up with you. The Dior Star foundation is perfect for this. Not only is the coverage amazing, but the foundation will last you long past your day and night out. It has a wonderful glow finish as well. I cannot recommend this enough. In my opinion it is one of the best summer foundations.

BLUSH

A touch of colour in your cheeks is perfect for a day in the city under the sun. A powder blush is probably going to fly (or unfortunately sweat) right off your face. Always opt for a blush that is liquid or in stick form. The NARS multi stick in Portofino is perfect for most girls, especially girls with a darker skin tone like mine. The pigment is quite strong so it stays on your skin as well, regardless of how long you’re in the sun!

LIP PRIMER AND BALM

One of the best ways to keep your lipstick on, is to prep your lips properly. For a lipstick that stays on your lips all day and all night, make sure that you’re using a lip primer and balm. The Dior Lip Primer is a summer makeup essential for 2017 and for life! This product acts as a balm, moisturising your lips, but also as a primer, making sure that the colour you apply over it stays on your lips!

SETTING POWDER

Blending your makeup is a must to make sure that it doesn’t cake up. When you’re in a rush though, having to use a beauty blender or sponge seems like such a pain. Instead, opt for this lightweigt By Terry Setting Powder. It blends your make up in and also makes sure that it’s set and stays on. Two in one!

MAKE UP FIX SPRAY

This product has literally changed my life. I read about it a couple of years ago over on The Chriselle Factor and decided to give it a try. This spray has literally kept my make up on my face through many parties and many weddings. Keep in mind, Indian weddings are 3/4 day long events and each event goes on till the wee hours of the morning. A few spritzes of this Clarins Make Up Fix Spray makes sure that my make up sets, stays on my face, and also gives it a beautiful glow. Talk about makeup essential!

I swear by these products, and they have all kept my make up in place during the summer! What are your makeup must haves for the summer?

A Summer Outfit & A Life Update

Fashion blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker showcases a new summer outfit with a touch of Italy

A Little Italy in London…

I haven’t been as consistent as I would have liked over these past few weeks but I have a good excuse I promise! First, though, I bring you a summer outfit for the peak of the season. Italy is one of my favourite countries in the world and I find that in many ways the Amalfi Coast creeps into my wardrobe, whether that be in mood or colour. I was feeling that specific mood when I wore this outfit recently. A little Ciao Bella in my hand and a hat that I actually got when I was in Venice last year, I couldn’t help but go for a little Dolce Vita. I love the scalloped hem of this skirt and the volume of the sleeves.

So, as said, I have a good excuse for being a little bit MIA. I’m in the middle of a move and have been loving moving into the new place! I can’t wait to share more about it with you guys but I reveal a bit as I unpack on Instagram stories so make sure you’re keeping up there! I was also in Barcelona this past weekend for one of my closest friends bachelorette and it was such a lovely trip – did you keep up with my adventures there?

A Summer Outfit through Unexpected Combinations

Unexpected Combinations Make Easy Summer Outfits

If you’ve been keeping up with my Instagram stories you will know that I am currently in the middle of moving apartments! Trust me, being surrounded by boxes with all your clothes all over the place doesn’t leave much room for outfit creativity. That being said, you want to be in something that is easy. The first outfit that came to mind was this easy breezy summer outfit that I wore a few weeks ago. It’s simple, it’s not fussy and you feel and look good in it!  One of my favourite parts about this outfit is that the pieces themselves are so simple, its the pattern mixing that makes it interesting. Gingham and stripes are not usually a combination that I would go for, but I loved the way the the colours of the two patterns come together. In other news, wish me luck on the move! Should I do a live Instagram story tour when it’s all done? What’s your favourite go to look for an easy and breezy summer look?

3 Things To Wear To Make You Look Taller

Fashion blogger Shloka Narang showcases how to look taller with just three items

How To Look Taller, in 3 Easy Steps

From one petite girl to another, (That’s right, I’m only 5’1, that’s 156 cm…) the struggle is real when you want to wear all the amazing pieces that your height gifted friends are able to pull off. With a lot of trial and practice, I’ve perfected the easiest ways to make yourself look taller no matter what. All you need is three very simple things! Firstly, always opt for a V- neck or a sweet heart neck. It elongates the upper half of your body and prevents you from looking stunted. Crop tops are also a perk if it’s summer as they have the same effect! (Ariana Grande’s Love Me Harder video is playing in the background and I can see her wearing a crop top and looking mighty tall – she’s pretty much my height!) I opted for this House of Sunny crop top that also has a v neck! The perfect top for a petite girl! Secondly, high waists are your number one friend. Whether it’s a paper bag waist or not, a high waisted item will always elongate your figure. Additionally, when going for something high waisted, go for a cinched waist. By adding definiton around your waist, like I did with my belted Tibi pants, you give your silhouette definition and shape. This makes you look taller.  Lastly, the simplest way to make yourself look taller is with a pair of pointed toed shoes. I actually only learnt this trick recently when I bought my all time favourite Jimmy Choo flats. They have a pointed toe and no matter what I wear them with, I look taller. I’m not sure what it is about pointed toes that do the trick, but the fact that it works is enough for me!

You Can’t Go Through Summer Without Trying This Double Denim Upgrade

Fashion blogger Shloka narang showcases how to wear double denim on The Silk Sneaker

Double Denim Gets a Summer Upgrade…

If you think double denim is all jeans and denim shirts, you’ve got it wrong! Double denim is very much a go-to summer outfit for me! It’s all about making it work with the right denim pieces, whether they are embellished or two toned! With the sun finally shining, its the perfect time to go for bare legs and a touch of bare tummy too! By this, I’m obviously referring to a summer staple; the crop top. I’ve long been a crop top girl solely because of how versatile and easy to style they are! When I found a denim crop top on my last trip to Bombay I knew I had to have it. The key to crop tops is balance. If you’re going for short on top, balance it out with long on the bottom! I found this gorgeous denim skirt in Bombay as well and I love how it’s not one, not two, but three different shades of denim! The length makes this outfit more elegant for a summers day as well! Although I found both these amazing pieces in Bombay (Yay for my readers in India!) I’ve linked to super similar pieces below! What do you think?

3 Summer Trends You need To Be More Stylish

Fashion blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker showcases how to wear three summer trends with one look

3 Summer Trends, One Easy Look

Summer is finally in full swing, thank god for that! With that in mind, I wanted to share three key trends for the summer that you cannot do without. I guarantee that trying any of these three summer 2017 trends, or all of them together like me, is sure make your look more stylish! One thing to keep in mind though is that here at TSS, I love trying new trends and encouraging you to try them too. With that being said, I also am a strong believer in personal style so make sure that you make a trend your own!

The first trend is the one shoulder top. The off shoulder silhouette gets an upgrade this season with this new look! I love a one shoulder trend because it’s actually really easy to pull off and it’s still as chic as the complete off shoulder! A quick trick is to take your favourite off shoulder top and just pull one side up! Voila! You’re already in trend with last year’s piece! I love this one from Topshop.

My second favourite summer trend to make any look more fashionable is ruffles. What’s great about ruffles is that they are almost always in style, think couture week! This skirt is not only beautiful because of the ruffles but also because its made of tulle! It’s a super feminine piece but also incredibly versatile. For me, regardless of whether ruffles and tulle are in trend, I love them! The one I’m wearing is from H&M!  You can find a similar one here!

Last, but not least, the quickest way to update your style to be in trend this summer is with one very simple accessory. Two words for you, tinted sunglasses. I love the retro feel that these glasses have and they are able to make any and every look a little bit more fashionable but also laid back! I love this style from H&M, these from Urban Outfitters and of course these gorgeous Dior ones!

Fashion blogger Shloka Narang talks about new in pieces and Instagram's 'shadow ban'

Monday Brief #20

Monday Ready!

Hello everyone! The Instagram shadow ban has been something that EVERYONE has been talking about. From the big players to the little ones and everyone in between, the shadow ban is affecting all our numbers. I read somewhere that it has a lot to do with broken hashtags and bot like behaviour. With that, I was also told to stop using Instagram for 48 hours to let the algorithm reset. So, this past weekend I took a digital detox! I have to say, regardless of what it does for my Instagram, it did a lot for me! I’m back this Monday feeling a bit more rested and inspired! Would you want me to talk about the shadow ban more?

This Past Week

Lots of exciting meetings and ontent creation going on behind the scenes but more than that this week is a bit special for me! Keep up with me over Instagram to find out why! I’ve also been reading a lot about the shadow ban – should I cover it in more depth?

I’ve got that friday feeling with my off duty look 😎 what’s your off duty look?
