UNIQUE JEWELLERY
THAT IS STILL AFFORDABLE

One of my most asked questions on Instagram is where to get affordable jewellery that still looks luxe. The issue with shopping at your favourite high street store for cute fashion jewellery is that it’s likely that everyone else is going to have the same piece as you. Trust me, I love my go-to jewellery brands like Monica Vinader & Links of London, but every now and then it’s time to add something to your collection that no one else has.

Today I wanted to share with you five of my favourite brands for unique yet affordable jewellery. They each have their own distinct aesthetic, but I’m sure you’ll find something that you love in each. Remember that they are all listed in different currencies on their websites so be sure to convert the price if you plan on shopping!

Lastly, I wanted to quicky note that there are two other brands that I would highly reccomend in additoin to these five (Let’s make it my lucky number 7). First, Misho Designs, which is an Indian based jewellery brand that is set to take over the world. Remember my super cool gold hoops with the twist? They are from this amazing brand. Second, Parisienne Amsterdam. They are a multi brand jewellery store in Amsterdam who have the most beautiful Instagram and are more than happy to ship you your favourite pair if you can’t go in store!

For the rest of my favourites, scroll down.

LAHAVANE

This is one of my favourite brands. Started by a mother and daughter duo their collection is small but adorable and you’ll find yourself wanting each and every piece. Their hoops with the evil eyes are worn almost everyday by me (can you believe I replaced my Dior earrings with these! That’s how cute they are) and my mother fell in love with another pair of mine that she had to have them too!

LAURA LOMBARDI

Her vintage gold and silver designs are perfect for the minimalist. the maximalist and the girl in between. Her pieces can be dressed up or down and you’ll find yourself reaching for them every day. Perfect addition to your collection if you’re looking to build up on great every day pieces or layering options.

KENNETH JAY LANE

I discovered this brand on Net-A-Porter. You now might think that this is going to be an ultra expensive selection but you’ll be happy to know that Kenneth Jay Lane has a fabulous selection of affordable statement worthy costume jewellery. I love that there is a mix of vintage designs and more modern pieces.

F+H JEWELLERY

I discovered this brand on Instagram last year and although the colleciton is small there are a few pieces that really stood out to me, like their organic hoops, their love earrings and their wild child hoops. This is worth having a browse off for sure!

RELIQUIA JEWELLERY

Another brand I’ve discovered on Instagram, their earring selection now dominates my wishlsit and I love the use of pearls to create a nautical theme too. If you’re looking to keep summer alive all through fall and winter with your jewellery, this is the place for you. (Think those shell necklaces that have been trending, but cooler).

The Fashionistas Guide To What To Do In Rome

Luxury fashion and travel blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker shares what to do in Rome, the best restaurants in Rome and fashion tips for this historic city

WHEN IN ROMA

The last stop on my trip around Italy was the historic and beautiful city of Rome. If you’re wondering what to do, where to go, where to eat and what to see in Rome, then this is the guide for you. We had two days to explore so I know exactly what you don’t want to miss out on, especially if you are there for a limited time or maybe just the weekend!

On our drive from Florence to Rome we stopped in the cutest town; Orvieto. The duomo here has a painted ceiling that actually inspired Michaelangello’s Sistine chapel! How amazing is that? Orvieto is also known for it’s truffle, white wine and olive oil.

But back to Rome, it’s beautiful sights and of course that thin crust pizza!

WHAT TO SEE

Luxury fashion and travel blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker shares what to do in Rome, the best restaurants in Rome and fashion tips for this historic city

The second we arrived in Rome ,the very first thing I wanted to see was the Trevi Fountain. There is no missing this landmark. I promise it’s even more breath taking when you experience it in person. Funnily enough the tradition of tossing a coin and making a wish comes from a movie, but every coin that is thrown into the Trevi is actually put towards feeding the homeless in the city. I suggest visiting the fountain as early in the morning as possible to beat the crowds.

The Spanish Steps can be found just a short walk from the Trevi, another historic landmark with a beautiful view of the city. Also a wonderful photo spot but be careful when walking up and down the slippery marble stairs!

If you are an Angels & Demons fan you will know of the stunning Piazza Navona, complete with not one, not two, but three breath taking fountains. The adorable coloured houses in this square are also lovely; a must see while you are there.

Don’t forget to take a tour around the Colosseum and the Roman Forum but be sure to buy your tickets in advance to skip the lines. I recommend heading there towards the evening to beat the afternoon sun!

I also wouldn’t miss Vatican city! Another thing to book in advance so you can see the sistine chapel while avoiding the lines. Remember to take something that covers your shoulders and knees.

Remember to cover your shoulders and knees when in Vatican city.

WHERE TO EAT

My favourite places to eat in Rome:

Emma

Order: The best pizza you will have in Rome. Not a touristy spot at all! Don’t miss the deconstructed cannoli either.

Casa Copelle

Order: Literally anything. This is a fusion of Italian and French food as its owned by a couple who are one half French and one half Italian!

Da Francesco

Order: The Truffle pasta. It is mind blowing.

La Campana

This is the oldest Trattoria in Rome! Serving the yummiest food.

Fashion Tip: Go for elegant silhouettes! Think Roman Holiday & Audrey Hepburn

MY FAVOURITE APERETIVO

One of my closest friends suggested what I am now convinced is the coolest spot in Rome for a drink; Hotel de Russie.

They have the most beautiful courtyard bar and a menu that boasts so many variations of Aperol Spritz! My favourite was the house special.

This is a spot not to be missed; also perfect for that adorable Instagram shot!

The Fashionistas Guide To What To Do In Florence

luxury fashion and travel blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker shares what to do and where to eat in florence, Italy

HELLO FLORENCE

Our second stop on our Italy trip was the beautiful city of Florence. There are no words to describe how stunning of a city it is. With so much to see and even more to eat, I think this has quickly become one of my favourite cities to visit. Here is my little travel guide for all the fashionistas looking for the coolest spots to eat, and the best things to see and do in Florence, Italy.

A quick note if you are driving through Italy. A wonderful place to stop between Florence and Milan is Forte dei Marmi. It’s an adorable beach town where you can relax and chow down on some vongole. I suggest stopping at Gilda for lunch.

WHAT TO SEE

luxury fashion and travel blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker shares what to do and where to eat in florence, Italy

There are so many beautiful things to see in Florence but there are three things you just cannot miss. First and foremost, The Duomo. I found that the structure was so different than the one in Milan. The colours are breath taking and the work on it is stunning. Go very early, or later in the evening for the perfect photo too!

The Uffizzi Gallery is not to be missed especially if you are an art lover. It was previously the private collection of the Medici family and is currently home to The Birth of Venus. Book your tickets in advance so you can avoid the long queues and try to go before lunch because it will take you quite a while to see all the beautiful art!

Last but not least, take a stroll down Ponte Vecchio. What was previously home to leather tanners, this golden bridge is now home to gold, jewellery and watch merchants. It also has a beautiful view of the city, especially at sunset.

Try to book your tickets for the galleries well in advance to avoid any queues.

WHERE TO EAT

The top spots to eat at in Florence:

Trattoria Gobbi 13

Order: The rigatoni is the most heavenly dish on the menu.

Bucamario

Order: The florentine steak and the cantucci for dessert.

Venchi Gelato

Although this is a chain, their gelato is so fabulous. Well worth the long lines!

Cantinetta Dei Verrazzano

Hands down one of our best lunches. Don’t miss the chickpeas pancake with truffle sauce.

Fashion Tip: Florence is a beautiful place to wear bright colours or bold patterns.

MY FAVOURITE APERETIVO

It’s all about that perfect aperetivo as you’re quickly learning through my travel guides. I explained exactly what to expect in My Guide to Milan so when you finally arrive in Florence, you’ll know what you’re in for!

Head over to the bar at The Savoy for a lovely view of the square while you enjoy your drink. One of the best Negronis I had on my trip was here!

The Fashionistas Guide To What To Do In Milan

Fashion and Travel Blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker shares where to eat, and what to do in Milan

TOUCH DOWN
MILANO

My trip to Italy started in the country’s most fashionable destination; Milan. Having dreamed of visiting the city for fashion week, I finally had a chance to explore one of Italy’s most popular destinations. Two nights was more than enough to get a feel for the place and try the cutest restaurants and aperetivos. Scroll down for the fashionistas guide to Milan, complete with the most stylish spots for a meal, the coolest areas to explore and a style tip or two as well so you can look your best while you explore!

WHAT TO SEE

Fashion and Travel Blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker shares where to eat, and what to do in Milan

The one thing you must not miss on your visit to Milan is the beautiful Duomo. We were very lucky with the lines and were able to go all the way to the top without having to wait. You can buy an expression lift ticket to avoid the stairs! Once at the top, take in the beautiful views of the city as well as the stunning architecture of this building.

A few steps away is the famous Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. Not only is this the perfect Instagram spot but it’s also home to all the luxury brands. A beautiful place to walk through. Tradition has it, if you find the bull mosaic on the beautiful floor of this sight and spin three times on your heel in the dip, you will have good luck! (Thank you to my Instagram fam for sharing this with me!)

A beautiful area to spend your day exploring is Brera. Home to some boutique stores and super homely trattorias and osterias (Always look for one of those, they are family run restaurants!) I suggest getting lost in the boutiques and stopping for a pasta along the way!

If aperetivo is your thing and you’re looking for a truly authentic experience, head over to Navigli. This district is not touristy at all. Full of locals, it’s one of the only bodies of water in Milan and therefore is known as Little Venice. Take your pick from the many bars offering snacks and drinks by the water!

MY FAVOURITE APERETIVO

You cannot miss aperetivo in Italy, specifically Milan. It’s essentially a two hours lot where you can sip on your Aperol Spritz with some snacks before dinner.

The Bvlgari hotel is a wonderful spot in Milan with it’s beautiful garden however we were not able to make it there this time!

Instead, we discovered the cutest bar in the Park Hyatt Hotel; Mio.

They have a fabulous menu that looks like tarot cards, with super cocktails and an amazing selection of snacks. My favourite spot for a drink for sure!

I love to add an element of colour or pattern into my outfit. On our first day in Milan I was able to do both with this off shoulder striped top. Do you remember it from my trip to Jamaica?

Links of London Ring

As much as I love growing my jewellery collection, a piece is that much more special when it carries meaning. Whether it is to remember a loved one or mark a moment in your life, personalised jewellery can be a powerful thing, serving far more than any other material possession.

When I decided to start my blog, I was afraid. Forget about reaching for the stars, I was clutching for stable ground. I was nervous about what others would think of me and scared about whether I would be good enough. At that moment, I was gifted a personalised charm from Links of London to mark the moment that I decided to take the plunge and start The Silk Sneaker. Till today, it hangs on my charm bracelet and reminds me of a moment when I felt brave. So, all these years later when Links of London asked me to choose a personalised ring to be engraved, I not only felt a sense of accomplishment, to be able to work with a brand I’ve admired for so long, but also a sense of inspiration; that there’s a long road ahead and I can’t wait to keep going. Although I’m a huge fan of sticking my initials on everything, this time I went for something more symbolic; a star.

The star; a symbol for hope, inspiration and luck.

Shloka Narang, a fashion blogger of The Silk Sneaker styles a Links of London personalised ring with a boho outfit.
Shloka Narang, a fashion blogger of The Silk Sneaker styles a Links of London personalised ring with a boho outfit.

The star is a reminder to never give up. No matter how uninspired or low I might feel, to always get up and keep going; reach for the stars and whatever is beyond. Starting my blog was a challenging experience and till today I can see the judgement when I introduce myself as a “blogger”. I can’t help but cringe when I get asked questions like “So, you sit on Instagram all day right?” The star on my beautiful new ring symbolises persistence, hard work, and never letting anyone dull my sparkle.

So if you could engrave anything on a ring like this one, what would you have engraved? What special moment makes you feel strong? Share with me in the comments below!
