The Fashionistas Guide To What To Do In Rome

WHEN IN ROMA

The last stop on my trip around Italy was the historic and beautiful city of Rome. If you’re wondering what to do, where to go, where to eat and what to see in Rome, then this is the guide for you. We had two days to explore so I know exactly what you don’t want to miss out on, especially if you are there for a limited time or maybe just the weekend!

On our drive from Florence to Rome we stopped in the cutest town; Orvieto. The duomo here has a painted ceiling that actually inspired Michaelangello’s Sistine chapel! How amazing is that? Orvieto is also known for it’s truffle, white wine and olive oil.

But back to Rome, it’s beautiful sights and of course that thin crust pizza!

WHAT TO SEE

The second we arrived in Rome ,the very first thing I wanted to see was the Trevi Fountain. There is no missing this landmark. I promise it’s even more breath taking when you experience it in person. Funnily enough the tradition of tossing a coin and making a wish comes from a movie, but every coin that is thrown into the Trevi is actually put towards feeding the homeless in the city. I suggest visiting the fountain as early in the morning as possible to beat the crowds.

The Spanish Steps can be found just a short walk from the Trevi, another historic landmark with a beautiful view of the city. Also a wonderful photo spot but be careful when walking up and down the slippery marble stairs!

If you are an Angels & Demons fan you will know of the stunning Piazza Navona, complete with not one, not two, but three breath taking fountains. The adorable coloured houses in this square are also lovely; a must see while you are there.

Don’t forget to take a tour around the Colosseum and the Roman Forum but be sure to buy your tickets in advance to skip the lines. I recommend heading there towards the evening to beat the afternoon sun!

I also wouldn’t miss Vatican city! Another thing to book in advance so you can see the sistine chapel while avoiding the lines. Remember to take something that covers your shoulders and knees.

WHERE TO EAT

My favourite places to eat in Rome:

Emma

Order: The best pizza you will have in Rome. Not a touristy spot at all! Don’t miss the deconstructed cannoli either.

Casa Copelle

Order: Literally anything. This is a fusion of Italian and French food as its owned by a couple who are one half French and one half Italian!

Da Francesco

Order: The Truffle pasta. It is mind blowing.

La Campana

This is the oldest Trattoria in Rome! Serving the yummiest food.

Fashion Tip: Go for elegant silhouettes! Think Roman Holiday & Audrey Hepburn

MY FAVOURITE APERETIVO

One of my closest friends suggested what I am now convinced is the coolest spot in Rome for a drink; Hotel de Russie.

They have the most beautiful courtyard bar and a menu that boasts so many variations of Aperol Spritz! My favourite was the house special.

This is a spot not to be missed; also perfect for that adorable Instagram shot!

Day 1

I love to add an element of colour or pattern into my outfit. On our first day in Milan I was able to do both with this off shoulder striped top. Do you remember it from my trip to Jamaica?

Day 2

This was my favourite outfit from the trip. This skirt has so much volume and it went perfectly with a simple silk cami. An easy holiday look to replicate!

Day 3

On our drive down the coast to Florence, I knew I had to wear something beachy and colourful. My Heidi Klein jumpsuit was the perfect fit; petite girls, the length is just right for us! I then changed for the evening into this beautiful dress I found in Milan from Italian brand Twinset. I love the dark florals, even for autumn or winter!

Day 4

For our day in Florence I opted for this white dress from the new Maje collection. I love the bottom of the dress with the intricate lace details. Of course I added a pop of colour with a beautiful fan!

Day 5

For our first evening in Rome I knew our first stop had to be the Trevi fountain! I pulled out this dress from my closet which is actually very old but a great example of a timeless silhouette.

Day 6

Did you know that Victoria Secret makes ready to wear clothes? One of my very stylish friends told me about it and I ran over to get this beautiful green jumpsuit for my trip!   I paired it with a pearl headband for that perfect elegant touch. Note how I’ve styled the same belt bag in a different way!

Day 7

On our last full day in Rome I channelled a modern Audrey Hepburn look with this beautiful floral Zimmermann dress. I paired it with a pair of cat eye sunglasses I found in Milan for that retro vibe and my Chanel backpack.

The Silk Sneaker in Capri

It took all of two seconds for the beautiful town of Capri to steal my heart…

On my summer adventures this year, I recently made a trip to the beautiful town of Capri. I think the words I used to describe one of the prettiest places I’ve seen this year were “right out of a Woody Allen movie” (I guess you can’t kill the film buff in me) If you’re planning a trip to this stunning town, which I highly recommend you do, there are so many things to see and do, and mostly consume (eat their body weight in pasta weight anyone?) but mainly I recommend a couple of things that you just cannot miss, especially if you want a fabulous trip!

La Fontelina

This isn’t just a great place to eat, its a great place to spend the day by the beautiful Mediterranean. A little bit of a trek down Capri (Although, while we were starving that trek seemed like it took forever!) but well worth all those burnt calories. The little restaurant serves up pasta, to fish, to meat and if there is something not on the menu that you would really love, don’t be afraid to ask! I would suggest the Lobster linguine – It’s one of the dishes that isn’t on the menu but be sure to ask for it. One of the best I’ve ever had! (Trust me, I’ve had a lot of lobster spaghetti in my time) The tiramisu was divine and the atmosphere was vibrant.

Once you are done with lunch, head down to the beach club for a day in the sun. With beach mattresses and chairs laid around, little coves have been built into the rocks so that you can enjoy the sun and sea. Take a little dip in the water (which was amazing!) and if you’re too tired to trek all the way back up the mountain, you can grab the ferry that will take you to the port! One of our best days in Capri!

Aurora

If the food at Aurora is good enough for Queen Bey then it’s definitely good enough for us as well! One of the best melanzane I had in Capri was at Aurora along with the most divine dessert. That being said, nothing will quite top my main of truffle pasta. (You really can’t beat truffle pasta – I wonder if Queen Bey had the same)

You cannot go to Capri and not have truffle pasta, trust me!

Buonocore Gelateria

No trip to Italy is complete without some Gelato, but if you’re me, no trip to Italy is complete without some Gelato everyday! The line at Buonocore is longer than ever but the wait is well worth the amazing Gelato in every flavour (Tiramisu is my fave!) in the freshly made cones. You’ll be able to spot it from quite a while away considering and I suggest trying to go as early as possible so you can get the flavour you want! I have no issue eating gelato for breakfast, lunch and dinner! In fact, one of the first things I had on our first morning in Capri was gelato and coffee! Oops!

Where to Hang

Besides hitting up La Fontelina, there are lots of other things to do in Capri! Start by exploring all the cute little boutiques and side streets – it’s a stunning town with lots of cute things you’ll want to add to your wardrobe!

One of our best days was when we rented a boat and took it around the island. It was beautiful to jump into the ocean and explore the little beaches and enjoy the water! Which leads me to another must do…

Blue Grotto

img_1425

The Blue Grotto is a little cave where the water is this indescribable neon blue. The light from the water reflects around the cave making the rocks appear blue as well. It’s a beautiful national phenomenon and a must see while you’re in Capri You get onto a little row-boat which takes you into the cave. You can jump into the water if you like I believe, but it’s exceptionally cold from what I hear!

Capri, you haven’t seen the last of me!
