How To Wear The Mismatched Earrings Trend

MIS
MATCH
ED

By now we are all familiar with the trends for autumn winter 2018-2019; leopard prints, cowboy boots, belt bags and so much more. (In case you aren’t familiar with them though, you can read my post about the trends you can actually wear and should wear right here). What you may not be familiar with though are some of the micro trends, mainly the micro jewellery trends for the season. My favourite, of course, is mismatched earrings. If you’ve been watching my outfits closely over the past year and if you have a sharp memory from London Fashion Week, mismatched earrings are something I’ve been wearing for a little while now. I love the playfulness of this trend and it really gives you the opportunity to get creative with your collection. Someone once asked me if I had any tips to make a trend that seems so intimidating, more wearable, so ive broken it down into three do’s and dont’s to wearing mismatched earrings:

Luxury fashion blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker shares how to make a leopard print top more stylish with three special outfit tricks she learnt from fashion week

Do’s

Do play with length: What’s great about this trend is that you can wear one earring that’s incredibly long and one stud. Asymmetry works really well with this trend.

Do play with shapes: It also works to pair shapes together, for example, you can pair a large statement hoop with a tiny stud. In fact, Dior sells pairs of earrings that are like that.

Do match materials: A great way to make this trend more wearable for you is to match stones. If one side has pearl details, make sure the other side does as well. Same with metals, keep it to gold or silver.

Don’ts

Don’t Mix two statements: The mismatched look is statement enough, so make sure that one side is the “statement” and the other side is subtle.

Don’t be afraid: Wear this trend with confidence. One of the biggest tricks I’ve learnt when it comes to wearing anything is that if you believe it everyone else will too. Wear it with confidence because it looks great!

COZY CARDI

With the winter months approaching quickly and your Pinterest filling up with cute winter outfit ideas, the one piece that we find ourselves reaching for over and over again has to be the oversized knit cardigan. I’m not sure if that’s because it’s so incredibly cosy and cute or because it’s gained massive popularity over Instagram. Either way, there is no denying that we all want this in our wardrobes, and we all want to be wearing it often. Today I wanted to share a different way to wear your oversized knit cardigan, for an adorable winter outfit. My cardigan is from & Other Stories however is almost sold out so I’ve linked to a similar one here and more options in the widget below.

It’s easy to think of your oversized cardigan as a layering piece, but for this outfit, I styled my knit as a top.  Since it’s still not winter temperatures yet, I was able to let my cardigan sit off the shoulder to create an off-duty slouchy vibe. As it begins to get colder though, I would layer a contrasting coloured turtleneck (black or navy) underneath and still wear it off the shoulder for the same effect! I paired my knit cardigan with sporty side stripe trousers for a cool girl contrast and of course, Gucci sneakers to complete my look. My mismatched pearls add a feminine touch to the look and my Chanel Gabrielle Backpack really brings the whole outfit together. Notice how I’ve kept my colours in a neutral palette but have let the little details like the off shoulder, the stripes and the pearls, make the look more interesting.

Petite girls, this is a great way to wear an oversized knit without letting it take over you. By tucking it into trousers, or wearing it off the shoulder as a top or as a layering piece with something more fitted underneath, you’re able to still show your silhouette, making you look taller!

If you live in a warmer country where it gets chillier in the evening, you can swap the trousers for a mini skirt or rock a crop top underneath with some high waisted trousers and leave the cardigan open!

How are you wearing your cozy knit cardigan? Comment below!

Shloka’s Little Black Beauty Book: The Best Hair Salons in Central London

Beauty blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker shares the best places to get a hair cut and blow dry in central London

LOCKS LOADED

It’s no secret that I think the best treat to yourself (other than a fabulous facial) is having the best blow dry. After years of living in London, I’ve gotten recommendations on recommendations for the best hair salons in central London but there are a few that I would suggest to anyone, including you, my dear readers! I find that a good blow dry can instantly bolster your mood and make you feel so 10x better. I have also heard horror stories of girls going to get their hair done and having some of the worst experiences imaginable! So to avoid all that, I am letting you into my Little Black Beauty Book where I’m going to be sharing all my favourite beauty spots in London, kicking off with my favourite hair salons.

A quick note. This is not a static list. As I discover new places and try out new salons, I will add them into this look so don’t worry if your area isn’t covered just yet! Drop me a comment below and I will be sure to expand the list! I’m so excited about this new series (yes series, next I’ll be covering another beauty treatment we all need regularly) and I hope you are too!

MICHAEL VAN CLARKE

Location: Marylebone

This is my favourite salon in London. I think they do the most fabulous job when it comes to hair. They have a blow dry bar where you can get your hair washed, a head massage and a fantastic blow dry all for £20. As you go higher with the stylists the price rises too but no matter what level you choose, you’re going to be happy with the results. They also have a really lovely little canteen which serves up tons of healthy dishes (their salads and shakes; so yummy!) Pro Tip: They also do make up, beauty treatments, and they have a braid bar! I also get my haircut here and I couldn’t recommend them enough.

SELFRIDGES; DANIEL GALVIN

Location: Selfridges, Oxford Street

This is a favourite of a lot of women I speak to, not only because of it’s very convenient location but because of how good Daniel Galvin is generally speaking with hair. They are a tried and tested name around London so you know that you’re going to have an amazing treatment. It’s also incredibly convenient to be able to get your hair done while you’re shopping for your outfit for the evening! Pro Tip: If you don’t mind washing your own hair, Selfridges also has a smaller blow-dry bar on the ground floor. They are very quick and very good!

DRYBY

Location: Mortimer Street

No London girl I know can resist DryBy. They are quick and easy and are super convenient if you need a blow dry and you need one fast. They are incredibly efficient and the whole point is that you can walk by, have your hair done and go straight on to your next event. It’s located right next to Psycle so if you happen to be one of those girls who likes to get her work out in no matter what (guilty as charged) then you can get an appointment with DryBy after and have them sort out your locks!

JO HANSFORD

Location: Mayfair

I won’t lie to you, Jo Hansford is pricey but they are one of the best salons in Mayfair. This will not be a quick visit, so make sure you have time on your hands if you decide to book in an appointment here as well! They have really lovely stylists who make you feel right at home and they are all very talented when it comes to styling as well! For one of my birthdays, they styled my hair in the coolest way with so many braids that I was baffled when I was finally undoing it!

So, have you tried any of these salons? What are your favourite places to get a good blow dry in London! Comment below!

A PERFECT SLIP

I’ve always said that there is no point wearing a trend if it doesn’t suit you, but there are some autumn winter 2018 trends that work for everyone; enter the slip skirt. I am no stranger to the silk midi skirt, aka, the slip skirt. I personally believe that this is one of those pieces that every single capsule wardrobe needs, solely because it is so elegant and chic and can be styled in so many different ways. What really gave rise to this skirt was the leopard print Realisation Par skirt that took over Instagram (Yes, the Naomi skirt). But how do you make a trend timeless, and how do you make it work for you? That’s the real secret behind true style #youhearditherefirst.

To make sure you’re buying wisely, save the animal prints for fast fashion (unless it’s something you really like to wear no matter what, like my mother. She’s rocked animal print so elegantly for as long as I can remember) and opt for a beautiful neutral colour like champagne pink, cream or black. For my winter wardrobe, I knew I needed a black addition (the one I’m wearing is almost sold out so here is a similar one) . You can 100% wear a skirt like this in the winter as long as you layer it properly. I paired my black midi slip skirt with a black turtleneck for a chic and elegant winter outfit.

In terms of accessories, I added in a touch of colour with my Miu Miu velvet boots (similar more affordable version here!). As it gets colder though, I would pair this with thigh high boots, but not in black! Try brown, nude or camel coloured boots to make yourself look taller.

If you live in a warm country, this look would also work with a graphic t-shirt or even an oversized hoodie for a really cool girl look (I know a lot of my readers have bigger busts and have asked for a few lines about that so that styling tip would work well for you girls!) If you are petite, I also think it’s better to add some form of height when wearing a skirt like this, whether that be through heels or flatform sneakers!

The 3 Best Face Masks For Your Skin Right Now

Luxury beauty blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker shares her three favourite hydrating face masks for acne prone skin featuring Avene, Peter Thomas Roth and Vestige Verdant

TREAT YOUR SKIN

As someone who’s struggled with acne for a majority of their life, I’m super familiar with a range of face masks. After trying and testing many and getting a mix of results (I’ve had some horrid reactions…) I know which ones to reach for on which occasion. As the weather starts to get colder our skin isn’t just calling for a good cleanse, but it’s also looking for some hydration which is why I’ve rounded up my three favourite masks that are not only the best face masks for acne but also the best hydrating face masks that you can use right now. What I love about beauty is that there will always be new products to try and love, but these are three that I think you’ll find will reach cult status in your beauty cupboard.

Luxury beauty blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker shares her three favourite hydrating face masks for acne prone skin featuring Avene, Peter Thomas Roth and Vestige Verdant

Avene Cleanance Mask

The Avene Cleanance mask is more of a mask meets scrub. It has AHA and BHA (salicylic acid which is amazing for fighting acne) that exfoliates your pores. It’s also a clay consistency so it soaks up any sebum from sweat build up and kills off bacteria from any acne on your skin. I love that this is a pharmacy brand that does exactly what it tells you it’s going to do and is a great mid week treat for your skin. It’s also a wonderful way to fight off pollution if you live in a big city like London!

Peter Roth Thomas Cucumber Gel Mask

This is one of those masks that really treats your skin, especially when it’s tired, dull or suffering from a long night out. It’s a hydrating and refreshing gel that helps to soothe irritated skin due to its natural ingredients including chamomile, papaya and cucumber. I was recommended it specifically when I had a bad break out, and it’s really wonderful as a weekend treat. No wonder that one is sold every. single. minute. How crazy right?

Vestige Verdant Organic Peat Mask

You’ve seen me apply this on my Instagram stories so many times, how could it not make the list? This is one of the best clay masks for drawing out any black heads and cleaning up clogged pores. Although this is a pricey mask, you can really feel it tightening your skin and working it’s magic. You don’t need to use it more than once a week and only for 5 minutes! One of my favourite masks ever but I don’t recommend using it if you’re on any strong Vitamin A routines (any strong retinol products)

What To Wear To The Office On A Rushed Autumn Morning

We’ve all had those mornings when we haven’t decided what to wear to work, we’re running late and we suddenly stare at our closet full of clothes and think, “I have nothing to wear” (note the Sex and the City reference? I’m almost done with all the seasons!) With autumn very much here and winter hinting that it’s closer than we think (it’s something like 70 odd days to Christmas?) trying to figure out office outfit ideas only gets more and more challenging. Recently, a lot of my girlfriends have been mentioning how much harder it is to decide on a cute workwear outfit when it’s cold outside. That’s why today I’m going to be sharing a quick and chic outfit formula that you can always fall back on, no matter the morning.

When I’m in doubt, I always reach for a combination that is tried and tested; high waisted trousers and a chic sweater. This combination might sound simple but it’s an outfit that just keeps giving. What I love the most about this formula is that you can repeat it almost every day and it will still look different. On one day you can go for a totally tonal look like I have here with beige and white (or any two colours, depending on the colour of your trousers). On another day, you could mix your high waisted trousers with a fitted turtleneck, and on another day you could throw in a burst of colour with a patterned sweater or oversized knit. Do you catch my drift?

It always helps to have an outfit to fall back on, almost like a uniform that you know you will always look chic in but don’t forget about your accessories! Although for work you may want to swap out this bag for a more subtle one and ditch the beret, you can still add in some dainty necklaces and some gold earrings. Don’t be afraid to add a touch of personality and shine to your look. I guarantee you’ll be the most stylish woman in the office!

Is this an outfit formula you could fall back on for work? Where do you look for work outfit ideas?

A little while ago I spent a day with fashion mega house Farfetch, learning all about their new watches and jewellery department and their collaboration with watchmakers Uniform Wares. Of course, for an occasion like this, I needed an outfit to match and I always say, when in doubt, go for an all black outfit. Some of you might think that an all black outfit is boring, or simply not inspiring enough but today I wanted to share with you the number one style trick on how to wear an all black outfit and still look incredible; mix textures.

The key to making any outfit pop is to try and mix in textures and patterns to add different points of interests. In regards to how to style all black, the rules are the same. I opted for a whopping four different textures in one look through my various details. My top, which I actually bought on Farfetch a few months ago, is a mix of knit and sheer. It’s the perfect autumn blouse and also adds an element of pattern with its stripes. My high waisted leather pants were a gift from Farfetch for the event and I love the boldness the vinyl brings to the look. Pro tip: lotion your legs and your pants to stop them from squeaking!

My accessories then complemented my look from my Prada belt bag in soft leather to my Uniform Wares watch with its beautiful suede strap. I actually got to customise my own strap which will be arriving in the next few weeks! All their materials are actually the same materials used by some of the biggest fashion houses in the world, but of course for much less! Now that’s luxury, isn’t it?

This post is not sponsored by Farfetch but thank you to Farfetch for gifting me these trousers.
