A little while ago I spent a day with fashion mega house Farfetch, learning all about their new watches and jewellery department and their collaboration with watchmakers Uniform Wares. Of course, for an occasion like this, I needed an outfit to match and I always say, when in doubt, go for an all black outfit. Some of you might think that an all black outfit is boring, or simply not inspiring enough but today I wanted to share with you the number one style trick on how to wear an all black outfit and still look incredible; mix textures.

The key to making any outfit pop is to try and mix in textures and patterns to add different points of interests. In regards to how to style all black, the rules are the same. I opted for a whopping four different textures in one look through my various details. My top, which I actually bought on Farfetch a few months ago, is a mix of knit and sheer. It’s the perfect autumn blouse and also adds an element of pattern with its stripes. My high waisted leather pants were a gift from Farfetch for the event and I love the boldness the vinyl brings to the look. Pro tip: lotion your legs and your pants to stop them from squeaking!

My accessories then complemented my look from my Prada belt bag in soft leather to my Uniform Wares watch with its beautiful suede strap. I actually got to customise my own strap which will be arriving in the next few weeks! All their materials are actually the same materials used by some of the biggest fashion houses in the world, but of course for much less! Now that’s luxury, isn’t it?

This post is not sponsored by Farfetch but thank you to Farfetch for gifting me these trousers.

Fashion Blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker reveals her favourite colour to wear as millennial pink styling Sandro and Maje

Why I Will Always Love Millennial Pink

Fashion Blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker reveals her favourite colour to wear as millennial pink styling Sandro and Maje

Who Doesn’t Love Millennial Pink?

As 2017 comes to an end, I can’t help but wonder if everyone will stop loving “millennial” pink and start loving something else. Of course, it’s only natural that trends come and go but I for one, have always loved pink. Pastel, dusty or millennial, there is nothing pink that I can resist so of course, I have no intention of ever abandoning this colour. What I love most about this colour is how easy it is to style and match. One might think that pink is a difficult, if not statement colour, to wear and style but it’s quite the opposite. I find that my pastel pink pieces go with almost everything I own, regardless of the colour.

What I also love about pink is that it’s able to add a touch of femininity to any outfit I might style! For example, I’m not exactly one to put on a super sporty/athleisure look. (Although I was the captain of my varsity football/soccer team in high school!) I fell in love with this gorgeous hoodie from Sandro. Paired with jeans, it’s the perfect spin on athleisure but paired with this gorgeous Maje pink skirt, it’s an elegant outfit in the making! I love how the navy blue and white compliment the baby pink and of course the whole outfit was pulled together with my favourite new thigh high boots!

Of course, as luck would have it, Anastasija and I came across this beautiful, lit up, pink wall. Didn’t I say I couldn’t resist pink? It made for such a fun backdrop to an outfit that I know I’m going to be wearing on repeat so don’t be surprised if you see it at least a few more times on my Instagram!

What is a colour you can’t stop wearing and why?

The Number One Way To Wear A Slip Skirt in the Winter

Fashion blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker showcases how to wear a summer skirt in winter

Don’t put that slip skirt away…

After a while of browsing through photos of sweaters and jeans on Pinterest, we start to run out of some great winter outfit ideas. For me, I love to get creative with my combinations and I’m always thinking of new ways to provide you guys with some outfit inspiration while encouraging you to be adventurous with your wardrobe. If there’s anything that’s trending right now it’s that Topshop slip skirt that we all want to get our hands on.  If you did manage to get it, or a similar one like this one you can create a beautiful winter outfit.

The number one way for you to rock your favorite summer slip skirt this winter is easier than you think. Grab your favorite chunky sweater and throw it on over the skirt. I paired this beautiful silk skirt that you may remember from my trip to Santorini, with this super chunky and frilly black sweater from Claudie Pierlot. I love the mix of textures that the two pieces create together! I think that an outfit is much chicer when you don’t get lost in it so to define my silhouette I added in a belt. I find that it really brings the outfit together.

The final touch would, of course, be a pair of thigh high boots. After all, you have to make sure you’re warm! My boots and sweater kept me super cozy and I was so happy I was able to wear this skirt! You can also try to recreate this look with your favorite summer dress by simply throwing a chunky sweater over it! If you remember I did that recently on my Instagram!

What do you think? Will you be trying this super cool outfit?

How I Make Old Pieces In My Wardrobe Look New Again

Fashion blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker shares how to refresh your wardrobe and make old pieces feel new again

Let’s hit refresh…

With every new season, we constantly look at our closet full of clothes and think “I need something new” but recently I’ve been asking myself, do I really? I think that the key to making good choices while shopping is to make sure that what you buy will last you for more than a season. After all, that’s really how you start to develop a sense of personal style.

Recently, I’ve been inspired to take old pieces in my closet and wear them in new ways to make them feel fresh and new for a new season. Just because it’s been in your wardrobe for more than a season, doesn’t mean it isn’t stylish! It also really helps put all the pieces in your wardrobe to the test, of whether they are truly worth their buck! One of my favorite pieces is this pair of Topshop trousers I bought a couple of years ago. I love the colour because it’s so classic and the fit is amazing. I wore these pants to Paris Fashion Week and really wanted to style them again!

I paired these pants with a top that is almost four years old! I have so much black and white in my closet but this is one of those tops I just cannot say no to – there is something so classic and chic about it and it lasts me season after season! To really give the look a fresh feel I paired it with a waist bag from Helmer. I loved how the metallic details of the bag make this outfit feel so shiny and new! Completed with a pair of sock boots and a coat I have literally been wearing on repeat, all my old pieces suddenly felt so fresh. Could you have ever guessed that I’ve worn these pieces a thousand times before on the blog too?

How do you make your old pieces feel new? Where do you go for your style inspiration?

The Coolest Way For You To Wear Velvet This Winter

Fashion blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker showcases how to style velvet pants in a winter outfit with Paige and Dior

It’s All About Velvet…

Velvet is synonymous with winter. This soft luxurious fabric always makes me think of snow and Christmas lights. There is no doubt that I just adore velvet (You probably saw that on my Instagram yesterday!). Most of you are probably thinking of velvet dresses and skirts, but the coolest way for you to wear velvet this winter is with a pair of velvet jeans! Why should velvet only be for your holiday parties? Bring it into your winter outfit for a great daytime look!

I found this particular pair of jeans on a recent shopping trip I went on and I not only fell in love with them because they were velvet but because of the beautiful colour! I find that burgundy is the perfect winter colour, don’t you? One of my favorite colour combinations is pink and red – a pink and red outfit is immediately super chic and is such a simple way of putting a look together! My new Cherie jumper was perfect for the occasion; its super snuggly and I love a sweater with words on it! Fun fact: I studied French in school for almost 9 years and I’m still terrible at it!

I was really feeling the gorgeous colours and I wanted to highlight that through the rest of this winter outfit with my accessories! With the right textures, my pink tinted Dior sunnies worked perfectly with this look! I grabbed a pink bag and my all time favorite boots and I was ready to go. I think an outfit like this really highlights that you don’t need to overthink your everyday look – a simple jeans and sweater combination can look as chic when you work with colours and textures!

If you’re finding that velvet is not your thing, I found a beautiful pair of affordable corduroy pants here and here that would create the same effect!

Colour of the Month: Terracotta

Scroll down to see my favourite ways to style this Pantone approved shade!

Welcome back to the colour of the month series. In an effort to make our way through what’s in for fall/winter 2016 and make sure you’re wardrobe reaches it’s season colour potential, I introduce you to the next must have shade in your fall palette. Enter Terracotta. Although it seems like a strange shade (I mean, is it orange? Is it brown? What is this colour.. is it kind of like tobacco?) It’s actually a great one to match with lots of colour combinations that are sure to get you noticed!

Burgundy + Terracotta

There is no denying this beautiful combination. If mother nature can work it (look at the autumn leaves, duh), so can you! It’s pretty much perfect for fall.

Purple + Terracotta

Anyone who knows me well knows that I am not a fan of purple, but even I cannot deny how well this combination goes… maybe it will convert me.

Blue + Terracotta

Is there anything that blue doesn’t go with? I love matching warm and cool tones together, the contrast is beautiful!

Special Mention: Terracotta + Pink

I think this is my all time favourite combination, or at least my current favourite combination… keep your eyes peeled because I’m going to be wearing this combo super soon!

No outfit is complete without a touch of personality.

I am one of those people who loves to match – one of my favourite feelings is when you find two pieces that go together so perfectly they look as though they were meant to be together! (As you can imagine, co-ord sets are my dream – I’m not sure if this stems from a childhood in school uniforms or just general organisational tendencies but I do love it) So when my cream pleated pants and this pleated top went together so perfectly, not only in terms of colour coordination, pleating and length, I couldn’t help but put them together.

What really took my outfit to the next level was the addition of some key jewellery pieces. No outfit is complete without a touch of personality, and for most of us it’s our favourite ring, bracelet or earrings. There is nothing more satisfying (Yes, that’s right, MORE satisfying than the co-ords) than having a piece of jewellery that you know is yours, that you know is unique, that you know won’t be paraded around by every second person you see, regardless of the fact that you  might have ‘different colours’.

That’s why Pieces of Mine is so perfect for me, and probably for you too. I loved the selection I found on their website solely because it was so unique, bringing together designers from all over the world to curate a collection of jewels that really speak to you, at a price point you can get on board with.My favourite pieces were these gorgeous earrings (how BEAUTIFUL is that pearl drop?) and no outfit is complete without these stacking rings! Thank you Pieces of Mine for the jewellery.

In a dark classroom, filled with wooden desks and dim laptop screens, I found myself slowly dozing off to slides of Monet. My Art History class was a compulsory module in order to take my Film Studies class at Columbia NYC that summer; but at the mere age of 16 I had a massive lack of appreciation for art; I regretfully admit that I was more interested in the gift store at the MoMa. Rest assured, much has changed over the last five years and through some sort of midnight epiphany, I found a love for art when I did a hop, skip and jump over to London. Imagine my glee when I got to attend the Lumas: Art Now launch last week. (Beyond belief in case you haven’t caught on)

I don’t think art is something you stare at blankly on a prescribed marking on the floor and attempt to reach some sort of internal enigma. Rather art is relatable, or rather it should be. At the risk of preaching a Theory of Knowledge syllabus at you (holla at my fellow IB’ers) art is a matter of perception; a personal matter. What makes it worth hanging up on your wall or gawking over at Frieze or ignoring completely, I don’t know, but all the same, it’s thought provoking. To even have this discussion, art should be accessible, which was the goal of the Lumas: Art Now launch – Limited editions print in small sizes available for your gifting/consuming pleasure.

Stripes

There’s something about stripes that I find so chic. If paired just correctly, they can be incredibly elegant.

Although my iPhone is set on crushing my dreams of warmer weather approaching, I choose to believe that what I physically feel when I step out is more accurate than what my weather app chooses to show me. As I type this out, rays of sunlight are shining in to my flat, ensuring me that I am in fact correct. In other words, Spring is coming (As is Game of Thrones… if you missed the reference). While I shed my layers in the coming months I find myself reaching for prints instead. You can’t really go wrong with stripes after all.
