How To Wear Oversized Pieces When You’re Petite

A Few Tips For Petite Girls…

A lot of you have reached out to me, expressing how much you wish you could recreate a look, like my spring outfit ideas, but you feel you are too petite for it. What shocks you, even more, is when you learn that I’m actually incredibly petite myself! My love for fashion and sharing through my blog has given me the confidence to be fearless with my style and never let my height hold me back, but of course, that wasn’t always the case! Through the years I’ve learned some tips and tricks for creating the perfect petite outfits. So if you’re a petite girl like me and you wish you could rock that oversized coat in an outfit, guess what? You can! Today I’m sharing my latest spring outfit inspiration, along with some special tips for how you can create some stylish petite outfits for spring without being afraid of your oversized pieces!

1. Add definition
I love this oversized duster coat however when I wear it on it’s own I tend to get lost. The best way to make sure you don’t look smaller in your outfits is to add definition. I’ve done that here with a waist belt, which helps highlight my silhouette! PS: Do you recognise this duster from my London Fashion Week Diary?

2. Add some height
Since petite girls aren’t the tallest, a lot of those amazing robes, kimonos and dusters can be a bit too long for us! That’s why I find that the best way to pull them off is to add a bit of height. I’m wearing one of my favourite heels from Valentino! I loved how the different shades of greens worked so well together!

3. Show some skin
Since I paired this long sleeve duster with trousers, I decided to wear it slightly off the shoulder so that you could get a glimpse of my shoulders. By showing some skin when you are petite, it stops your outfit from becoming too overpowering for your figure! It’s a great way to look taller and more defined!

What are your tips for petite girls? Are you petite like me?

Colour of the Month: Bubblegum Pink

At one point or another, you thought this was your favourite colour. Let’s bring that back

We’ve seen it on the Gucci ‘it’ bag of the season, it’s all over our Pinterest boards and I”m sure you’ve all attempted to recreate the infamous tumblr photo, Girl with Giant Bubblegum Bubble. If you haven’t guessed yet, this month’s colour of the month is none other than the gorgeous, Bubblegum Pink. Although it seems like one of the most overwhelming shades of pink, bringing to mind Gretchen Weiner/Regina George’s whole wardrobe, I guarantee its one you can incorporate into your next look without looking like a Mean Girl.  So other than the obvious of Pink and White  & Pink and Black, why not try one of the se combinations below? If you’re feeling very daring,  Pink also featured in my firstColour of the Month with another bold colour! If not, scroll down!

Pink + Blue

A stellar combination that you really can’t go wrong with. I know it may seem strange, but these two colours, regardless of the shade of blue, go fabulously together!

Pink + Red

It may seem daring but I’ve sported it myself! Check out my pink and red look!

Khaki is a neutral so of course pink would work!

In a dark classroom, filled with wooden desks and dim laptop screens, I found myself slowly dozing off to slides of Monet. My Art History class was a compulsory module in order to take my Film Studies class at Columbia NYC that summer; but at the mere age of 16 I had a massive lack of appreciation for art; I regretfully admit that I was more interested in the gift store at the MoMa. Rest assured, much has changed over the last five years and through some sort of midnight epiphany, I found a love for art when I did a hop, skip and jump over to London. Imagine my glee when I got to attend the Lumas: Art Now launch last week. (Beyond belief in case you haven’t caught on)

I don’t think art is something you stare at blankly on a prescribed marking on the floor and attempt to reach some sort of internal enigma. Rather art is relatable, or rather it should be. At the risk of preaching a Theory of Knowledge syllabus at you (holla at my fellow IB’ers) art is a matter of perception; a personal matter. What makes it worth hanging up on your wall or gawking over at Frieze or ignoring completely, I don’t know, but all the same, it’s thought provoking. To even have this discussion, art should be accessible, which was the goal of the Lumas: Art Now launch – Limited editions print in small sizes available for your gifting/consuming pleasure.
