Fashion blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker shares her tips on how to style a floral blouse for any spring or summer outfit featuring Topshop and Gucci

If You’re Weary of Florals, This Easy Spring Outfit Trick Will Change Your Mind…

Fashion blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker shares her tips on how to style a floral blouse for any spring or summer outfit featuring Topshop and Gucci

Floral Can Be Groundbreaking…

I have a confession to make. Up until very recently, I wasn’t a fan of floral printed tops. I couldn’t imagine creating summer outfits based on floral prints. Although summer outfits on Tumblr and Pinterest were full of this much-loved print, I wasn’t getting on the bandwagon; enter the cutest floral top I had ever seen. On one of my recent trips to Topshop, I discovered an adorable selection of floral blouses. Perfect for spring, perfect for summer, the floral blouse was suddenly becoming the key piece in so many summer outfit ideas I lost count! So much so, that I knew I had to share this with you! So, if you’re like me and need a bit of guidance on how to make floral patterns work for you this summer, here are my three tips!

1. Pick your print wisely.
When it comes to prints, are you a go big or go home sort of person or a more minimal the better type? If you’re just delving into the world of floral prints, try something that is a little smaller and less overwhelming. It’s easier to style and I guarantee is great to ease into this print! That’s why I love this Topshop floral off shoulder top so much. It’s so easy to style because the print is so small! (Mine is sold out but there is one similar here)

2. Take note of colours
A pattern might look fabulous on you, but if the colour is all wrong then it’s not going to work! Make sure the colour combinations are flattering. This is one of the key factors that can make a print look super luxe, or the complete opposite, regardless of where it’s from! I opted for darker colours because I felt they were more flattering but I’ve been eyeing some lighter floral pieces too! I’ve linked to them in the little carousel below! (Make sure your Adblocker is turned off!)

3. Pair it well
If you’re wearing a print, be aware of what you are matching it with! Although print on print is not unheard off, it can be challenging to match two florals together well. I like to keep the rest of my pieces understated and if I really feel like I want to add another element, I go for it with accessories. I love these high waisted pants with this top as the looser cut adds a great contrast to the tight fit of the blouse! I added my favourite Gucci Bee Bag for another element of surprise!

How do you wear florals? Are you a floral lover or hater?

The Cutest Skirt For The Cutest Outfit…

One of my favourite things about spring and summer is all the spring outfit ideas I can create with skirts. It’s no secret that all my favourite outfit formulas for any season, whether it be spring, summer, winter or autumn, include skirts. Today, I’m bringing you some outfit inspiration while I share how to style an asymmetrical skirt this spring.

The varying lengths on the hem of an asymmetrical skirt are what makes it so fun to wear! Mine also happens to be in the coolest summer print, making it the perfect piece for your wardrobe right now. I love how flattering this style is as it really highlights your waist, however, the length is super elegant and works for even petite girls like me! I paired my new favourite skirt with a bright orange jumper. Bright colours like orange and violet are a major trend for spring summer, and pairing them with prints and summer neutrals, is a great way to work them into your outfits!

What I love about an asymmetrical skirt is also how versatile it can be. Although I’ve paired it with a spring knit in this outfit, as the weather starts to get warmer, you can also pair it with a white shirt tied at the waist, or a summer crop top. Since it’s a midi skirt, the outfit will always be balanced and elegant! Now if that’s not the key to a perfect summer outfit, I don’t know what is! This particular skirt is from Indian designer Deme by Gabriella. They ship worldwide through their website here, or you can DM them on their Instagram here. I have also found some other asymmetrical skirt options that you guys can shop below!

3 Tricks To Finding Your Personal Style

Fashion blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker shares her three secret style tricks to finding your personal style with this spring summer outfit idea featuring Isabel Marant Etoile and Dior

The Journey To Your Personal Style Starts Here…

Whenever I’m coming up with outfit ideas, whether that be for the spring or summer, I always find that my style inspiration comes from the way I define my personal style. Trust me, finding my personal style was no easy journey but after the warm feedback that I received from you all a few weeks ago when I wrote this article about my own style journey, I thought I would share with you three easy strick tricks so you can find your personal style too!

1. Understand what suits your body type
It’s important to remember that what suits everyone may not suit you! I’m incredibly petite so a lot of the times I find that very oversized pieces or other styles don’t suit me as well as they suit some of my taller friends! The key is to understand what suits you and use that to enhance your style. It’s the first step in finding your personal style!

2. Gather your inspiration!
Last month I wrote a whole post on where I find my style inspiration. Gathering fashion inspiration to create perfect outfits is another step in your style journey. It helps you define what you like and don’t like! For me, I find that movies and magazines are great sources of inspiration. I also gather a lot of inspiration from the designers I love like Christian Dior, Chloé and Isabel Marant. I have a huge book full of every single collection to come out of the House of Dior and I can always find something inspirational in there! If you’re not sure where to start, why not start here.

3. Be Fearless!
Don’t be afraid to try something new and trust your instincts. The whole key to personal style is that it’s something unique to you! Just because someone else hasn’t tried it yet, doesn’t mean you can’t! Don’t be afraid to go bold with your colour combinations or layer unexpectedly.

This is one of my favourite outfits because I think it’s so me. It’s got a touch of feminine with the very dainty ruffle skirt and all my layered jewellery. At the same time, there is a bit of edge with the exposed logo strap (this is Dior but how cute is this high street version? I’ve linked to some more below!), the oversized sweater and the sneakers. It’s the perfect balance that really speaks to my personal style!

Fashion blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker shares how to wear denim on denim for a double denim spring outfit featuring Louis Vuitton and Markus Lupfer

Why Denim On Denim Is The Perfect Outfit Idea This Spring

Fashion blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker shares how to wear denim on denim for a double denim spring outfit featuring Louis Vuitton and Markus Lupfer

Denim on Denim this spring…

If you’re looking for an easy way to transition your wardrobe into spring, look no further than this perfect outfit idea; denim on denim! Denim on denim is one of those trends that come back year after year, so much so that it’s a staple outfit idea in all our minds! I love playing around with different shades of denim, and I also like pushing the boundaries! Most of us tend to think of the Canadian tuxedo when we think of double denim but when I share how to wear denim on denim, I think of other casual outfit ideas that will look as chic! In this look, I opted for a denim skirt with a denim duster coat. Two pieces that are so unique but make the perfect combination! I also love this Markus Lupfer sweatshirt. The blue details on the lips are so fun and match so beautifully with the denim!

A few key things to note when wearing denim on denim is that you don’t want to have too much of a contrast between your shades of blue! I would also limit the outfit to two denim pieces and make sure to have a piece that breaks up the outfit, like a white t-shirt or a sweatshirt like mine!

If you’re still looking for reasons why you should try this denim trend, I’ve got a few for you!

1. It’s a no-brainer outfit formula!
How many times have you looked at the wardrobe and not known what to wear? This is an easy outfit formula that just requires putting your favourite pieces together! A total no-brainer that is guaranteed to look good!

2. The perfect transition outfit
Transitioning your wardrobe from winter to spring can be a real challenge and we are experiencing some serious in-between weather, especially here in London! This is a great way to make the transition to your style and still be on point!

3. Unleash your creativity
Don’t be restricted by the Canadian tuxedo! There are so many more fun denim combinations than just a denim jacket and jeans. Try to work with your more unique denim pieces, like how I did with this Zara denim duster coat here!

Fashion blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker shares her favourite spring trends for 2018 and how to build the perfect spring capsule wardrobe around them.

Affordable Spring Finds To Add To Your Closet

Fashion blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker shares her favourite spring trends for 2018 and how to build the perfect spring capsule wardrobe around them.

It’s Time To Build That Spring Wardrobe…

Whether you believe it or not, spring is finally here and that means it’s time for spring dresses! I’ve been longing to start getting my dresses out and bare legs have been one of the things I’ve been looking forward to more than anything about the weather finally getting warmer! Although I’m excited to get my spring dresses out, sometimes it’s fun to hit refresh on your old favourites and make them feel new again. It’s easier than you think and it just needs a simple and quick styling trick like the one I’m about to show you!

I wanted to make my dress feel new and different an the easiest way to do that is to just throw on a layer and a belt! It’s as simple as that! I added one of my favourite cargo jackets over this dress because I love the contrast of the edgy cargo with the more feminine frilly collar of this dress. To really pull the look together, I put a belt over the jacket and voila! Same old dress, but totally new look and feel! How simple right? I also added another very feminine and simple accessory to my look which is the black ribbon in my hair! It’s another easy and simple styling trick and one that is having such a major moment right now!

Mad For Plaid

I’ve always been mad for plaid so it’s no surprise that my wardrobe is full of plaid skirts, blazers and trousers. Plaid is also a trend that is going nowhere for a few seasons so don’t be afraid to add it to your closet! This is one trend that’s here to stay for at least a while! I’ve linked to some of my favourite plaid skirts because every girl should have one of those! (#clueless vibes!). I’ve also included some plaid trousers and some plaid blazers for spring!

See more of this outfit here.

I seriously have never been able to resist plaid! It’s one of the first patterns I talked about when I started my blog!

This was on my birthday last year! I wore this all day and felt so cool!

Sequins

Sequins are no longer only a nighttime affair, sequin is an all-day affair! Add some flair to your wardrobe with a dark sequins blazer, or throw on a sequins skirt and pair it with a light knit spring knit for a more off-duty vibe! Whatever your choice, I’ve linked to some awesome pieces below!

Pastel Power

Who doesn’t love a touch of candy colours for spring, am I right? Think pastel pink, green and even lavender! You get extra points for matching them together! I love how feminine this trend is, and for me, it’s more than a trend, it’s a part of my style personality!

I wore this when I was in India over winter break and received so many compliments about the pastel colour!

Fashion blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker shares her favourite spring trends for 2018 and how to build the perfect spring capsule wardrobe around them.

Red is one of my favourite colours and I love going monochrome so combine them and you’ve got a winner!

Be Bold!

Ah, just when I was sinking into pastels, the other side of my style personality longs for boldness! Top to toe red, bright primary colours and unexpected colour combinations are all very much the in thing, not only for spring but for seasons to come as well! Trust me on that one!

Check out how I style red here

Sheer Delight

There’s something almost sexy about sheer isn’t there? Especially for summer! Pair with a cute bralette or lace cami underneath and your favourite sheer pieces are super wearable! Anything with mesh inserts as well is always a good choice! Do you remember this sheer outfit of mine from ages ago?

Seriously one of the best presents I ever received and I still wear it on repeat till today!

Bum Bags

Waist bags, bum bags, whatever you want to call them; there’s no denying that they are cool! I actually received my first one as a birthday present around a year ago and it’s been one of my favourite pieces ever since! I literally can’t stop wearing it and you’ve seen it all over my Instagram! Here are some great ones to get you started!

Ruffles

I am a total sucker for ruffles! Whether they be on shirts or skirts, I cant resist them! I love twirling around in my ruffle skirts as you’ve already seen through all the outfits I’ve created with them! Don’t worry, there’s another one coming your way soon but till then shop my favourite ruffle pieces below!

How To Wear Oversized Pieces When You’re Petite

Fashion blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker shares another great spring outfit idea, showcasing how petite girls can style oversized pieces with Topshop, Chanel and Valentino.

A Few Tips For Petite Girls…

A lot of you have reached out to me, expressing how much you wish you could recreate a look, like my spring outfit ideas, but you feel you are too petite for it. What shocks you, even more, is when you learn that I’m actually incredibly petite myself! My love for fashion and sharing through my blog has given me the confidence to be fearless with my style and never let my height hold me back, but of course, that wasn’t always the case! Through the years I’ve learned some tips and tricks for creating the perfect petite outfits. So if you’re a petite girl like me and you wish you could rock that oversized coat in an outfit, guess what? You can! Today I’m sharing my latest spring outfit inspiration, along with some special tips for how you can create some stylish petite outfits for spring without being afraid of your oversized pieces!

1. Add definition
I love this oversized duster coat however when I wear it on it’s own I tend to get lost. The best way to make sure you don’t look smaller in your outfits is to add definition. I’ve done that here with a waist belt, which helps highlight my silhouette! PS: Do you recognise this duster from my London Fashion Week Diary?

2. Add some height
Since petite girls aren’t the tallest, a lot of those amazing robes, kimonos and dusters can be a bit too long for us! That’s why I find that the best way to pull them off is to add a bit of height. I’m wearing one of my favourite heels from Valentino! I loved how the different shades of greens worked so well together!

3. Show some skin
Since I paired this long sleeve duster with trousers, I decided to wear it slightly off the shoulder so that you could get a glimpse of my shoulders. By showing some skin when you are petite, it stops your outfit from becoming too overpowering for your figure! It’s a great way to look taller and more defined!

What are your tips for petite girls? Are you petite like me?

5 Tricks To Wearing Your Heels All Day & Surviving Them

Fashion Blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker shares her tips for how to walk in high heels and how to make heels more comfortable

How To Walk In High Heels, Without The Pain…

For those of you who didn’t know, I’m actually very petite. I’m just about 5’1 (It’s actually 5ft and 3/4 inches but trust me, those 3/4 really count!) which means that a lot of my outfits involve me wearing heels! Don’t get me wrong, I love shoes. One of my favourite books as a kid was called How to Walk In High Heels, and my love for shoes is one of my weaknesses for sure. I love sharing my favourite pieces in my collection with you all (You can read all about how to build an amazing shoe collection here!). However, it can be very difficult to make high heels more comfortable especially when you are running around in them all day. Through the years, I have created my own high heel survival guide, full of tips on how to make high heels more comfortable, how to make high heels hurt less and tips for wearing heels all day and still feeling great! Today, I’m going to share some of these with you!

Fashion Blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker shares her tips for how to walk in high heels and how to make heels more comfortable

These boots are so fabulous but they needed to be stretched slightly before I wore them. Now whenever I wear them I can last all day and night!

Break In Your Heels The Right Way

I know just as much as the next girl how exciting a new pair of heels or shoes can be. You want to wear them right away right? Before you take them out on the town though, you need to break in your heels the right way and stretch them out a little bit. The best way to do this is to put on a pair of very thick socks (maybe a two/three pairs to really get that thickness!) and then warm them up with a hairdryer. Stick your super warm feet into your new shoes and walk around your home in them for about 15 minutes. The heat will help the shoes stretch out and become less stiff. Repeat as necessary! This makes all the difference in making your heels more comfortable!

Look For Heels With Support

Heels with a strap around the ankle, a thick strap that goes over the front of your foot or with chunky block heels will all provide great support for your feet all day long. These sorts of styles are the best, especially when you know you’re going to be on your feet for a majority of the day! The support helps you walk with less pain in your feet all day long. Think flatforms, platforms, booted heels…

The block heel on these boots makes them so easy to walk around in all day!

Fashion Blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker shares her tips for how to walk in high heels and how to make heels more comfortable

I love this style of heel but sometimes I get blisters at the front near my toes so my combed stick saves me!

Reduce Friction With Baby Powder

One of the worst parts is the blisters that come after an entire day in high heels. I myself am incredibly prone to blisters, which make it so difficult to stay standing in even my comfiest heels! The best way to reduce friction in key parts of your feet (heels of your foot, toes etc.) is to sprinkle baby powder on your feet before you slip them into your shoes, especially on the parts that are covered by the heel! Another lifesaver is the Compeed blister stick! Just roll it on to all the parts of your foot that are blister prone or that might have friction with your shoes and it prevents blisters. Plus it’s transparent and fits in your purse!

Whatever You Do, Don’t Take Them Off

You’re out, your heels are killing you and you think you can take them off for just a second. Trust me, don’t do it. Although it feels amazing to take them off, putting them back on is even worse than before! It makes your feet feel so much worse! Also going from the height, straight to flat ground and back to height again is actually very bad for your feet! Try to stretch your feet once you take them out of your heels for the day!

Fashion Blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker shares her tips for how to walk in high heels and how to make heels more comfortable

These are some of my favourite heels! The platform in the front gives me added support which I love!

Fashion Blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker shares her tips for how to walk in high heels and how to make heels more comfortable

Another pair of shoes that I am so happy I bought! Not only do they support me in the front but they also provide ankle support!

After Care Is Important

The best way to keep your feet happy is to take care of them even after you’re done with your heels for the day! Soaking your feet in a tub of hot water and Epsom salts is a great way to reduce any swelling, take away pain and help your feet recover from the heels. Regular pedicures also help to keep your feet healthy and reduce any friction or pain that heels can cause!

I hope these tips help you walk in your high heels! Have you tried any of them? Will you be trying any of these tips?

It all started when I fell in love with this beautiful polka dots shirt from The Fable. The Fable is an Australian brand that specialises in gorgeous silk shirts. I even grabbed this beautiful striped shirt from them! If you’re like me and just starting to take the leap into polka dots, then starting with a shirt like this one is a great way to ease your way into one of the seasons favourite patterns. Trust me though, once you see how amazing they look on, you’ll be filling your cart full of polka dots! I’ve linked to some of my favourite polka dot pieces below for you to check out!

What I love most is creating casual outfits like this one that still has so many points of interest! I wanted to add some colour and fun to the look so I added in my crushed velvet jacket. I love how the white, red and blue from my jeans come together so well. Of course, I had to feature the Topshop mom jeans that I haven’t been able to stop talking about! I am so obsessed with how well they fit and they are the perfect piece for your spring wardrobe! I love Topshop denim because of their petite sizes. I’m wearing a petite size here which fits me perfectly (I’m only 5’1) but they also have the same style in regular sizes! To complete the look I added to my Chanel pumps. I love these Chanel shoes because they were my mums which I guess makes them kind of vintage? There you have it, the perfect spring outfit for a casual day out!
