How To Style A Denim Jacket Now That Spring Has Finally Arrived

Now that spring has finally arrived, we can start thinking about the perfect spring and summer outfits! As you start to move into your warm-weather wardrobe, a must have is a cropped denim jacket. It doesn’t matter if you prefer yours to be a classic blue denim or a distressed embellished, a denim jacket is the perfect spring companion! Here is how I’m wearing a denim jacket this season…

I love the idea of creating denim on denim outfit, especially with different shades. I paired my Topshop cropped denim jacket with a denim white mini skirt. I love the idea of stripes especially when the weather gets warmer and my Claudie Pierlot sleevless striped top was the perfect piece for this look. I wanted my outfit to look more chic than casual so I added in my Dior saddlebag and my Dior kitten heels for an ultra-luxe look!

I wanted my accessories to be luxurious but still fun. My evil eye sunglasses chain is the perfect way to stay hands-free this summer while still looking fashionable. I also added in my baker boy hat; still a very cool piece to rock! I would love to know how you are styling your favourite denim pieces this summer! STYLE TIP: Cropped jackets are perfect if you are petite! They won’t overpower your figure.

This week we got a real taste of spring here in London and although I couldn’t take my spring outfits for a spin just yet (I was down with the flu, was such a bummer but all your amazing and positive messages on Instagram made me smile so much!) I am so excited to start planning out the cutest outfits that you all can rock this season. I am always taking inspiration from the fashion world around me, especially with all the beautiful street style coming out of Paris fashion week right now, but with all that said and done, there are three things that I always look forward to wearing every spring. 1. Spring skirts
I was recently asked what my go-to outfit is when I’m in a rush and more often than not you’re going to find me in a skirt and blouse/sweater (Can we stop saying the word sweater now that it’s almost spring?) I am so excited to start pulling out all my favourite spring skirts and stocking up on new ones! This spring, I’ve noticed there are a lot of mini and midi shapes trending, especially slip skirts! 2. Pastel colours
I am such a spring and summer baby. I love all the beautiful colours associated with the season, especially pastels. Pastel pink is one of my all-time favourite colours when it comes to basically everything and I’ve already started to pull out my favourite pastel pieces, like this top handle Dior handbag. Pastels are always a fashion trend for spring and summer, but this season we are seeing a lot of pistachio green. I covered some of my favourite pistachio green pieces here!

3. Ankle boots
It’s time to pack those thigh high boots away and say hello to ankle boots. (There is only one outfit exception I’m making for high boots and you will see that one very soon!) This season we see a fashion trend carrying over from last year; cowboy boots. This Is The Only Statement Sweater You Need This Spring….

A Piece That Is More Versatile Than You Think…

I’m not sure when the obsession with the slogan sweater began for me but I’m sure if I go digging through some of my childhood photographs, I’m sure to come across a few with me wearing statement sweaters and statement t-shirts! After all, some of the coolest casual outfits and street style looks to revolve around that slogan sweater; it literally provides the perfect spring summer outfit idea, just waiting for you to wear it!

This season I am obsessed with the coolest statement sweater that I spotted at Ba&sh. Anything with a pop of colour that reminds me of Paris is good in my books and I love how you can dress this piece up or down! I paired the sweater with a statement black skirt. The zips on this skirt let me adjust how high the slits on either side go, which means I can make an outfit casual like I did for this spring look, or I can make it a bit more formal! I love pieces that are versatile!

Like I said, you can dress this piece up or down. Pair it with your favourite denim mini or denim jeans for a more off-duty look. You can spice up something like that with a pair of kitten heels! You could even pair a statement hoodie like this with some faux leather leggings, some killer heels and statement earrings. The options are endless, but all outfit options I’ve tried and tested just for you! 3 Tricks To Finding Your Personal Style

The Journey To Your Personal Style Starts Here…

Whenever I’m coming up with outfit ideas, whether that be for the spring or summer, I always find that my style inspiration comes from the way I define my personal style. Trust me, finding my personal style was no easy journey but after the warm feedback that I received from you all a few weeks ago when I wrote this article about my own style journey, I thought I would share with you three easy strick tricks so you can find your personal style too!

1. Understand what suits your body type
It’s important to remember that what suits everyone may not suit you! I’m incredibly petite so a lot of the times I find that very oversized pieces or other styles don’t suit me as well as they suit some of my taller friends! The key is to understand what suits you and use that to enhance your style. It’s the first step in finding your personal style!

2. Gather your inspiration!
Last month I wrote a whole post on where I find my style inspiration. Gathering fashion inspiration to create perfect outfits is another step in your style journey. It helps you define what you like and don’t like! For me, I find that movies and magazines are great sources of inspiration. I also gather a lot of inspiration from the designers I love like Christian Dior, Chloé and Isabel Marant. I have a huge book full of every single collection to come out of the House of Dior and I can always find something inspirational in there! If you’re not sure where to start, why not start here.

3. Be Fearless!
Don’t be afraid to try something new and trust your instincts. The whole key to personal style is that it’s something unique to you! Just because someone else hasn’t tried it yet, doesn’t mean you can’t! Don’t be afraid to go bold with your colour combinations or layer unexpectedly.

This is one of my favourite outfits because I think it’s so me. It’s got a touch of feminine with the very dainty ruffle skirt and all my layered jewellery. At the same time, there is a bit of edge with the exposed logo strap (this is Dior but how cute is this high street version? I’ve linked to some more below!), the oversized sweater and the sneakers. It’s the perfect balance that really speaks to my personal style!

Why Denim On Denim Is The Perfect Outfit Idea This Spring

If you’re looking for an easy way to transition your wardrobe into spring, look no further than this perfect outfit idea; denim on denim! Denim on denim is one of those trends that come back year after year, so much so that it’s a staple outfit idea in all our minds! I love playing around with different shades of denim, and I also like pushing the boundaries! Most of us tend to think of the Canadian tuxedo when we think of double denim but when I share how to wear denim on denim, I think of other casual outfit ideas that will look as chic! In this look, I opted for a denim skirt with a denim duster coat. Two pieces that are so unique but make the perfect combination! I also love this Markus Lupfer sweatshirt. The blue details on the lips are so fun and match so beautifully with the denim!

A few key things to note when wearing denim on denim is that you don’t want to have too much of a contrast between your shades of blue! I would also limit the outfit to two denim pieces and make sure to have a piece that breaks up the outfit, like a white t-shirt or a sweatshirt like mine!

1. It’s a no-brainer outfit formula!
How many times have you looked at the wardrobe and not known what to wear? This is an easy outfit formula that just requires putting your favourite pieces together! A total no-brainer that is guaranteed to look good!

2. The perfect transition outfit
Transitioning your wardrobe from winter to spring can be a real challenge and we are experiencing some serious in-between weather, especially here in London! This is a great way to make the transition to your style and still be on point!

3. Unleash your creativity
Don’t be restricted by the Canadian tuxedo! There are so many more fun denim combinations than just a denim jacket and jeans. Try to work with your more unique denim pieces, like how I did with this Zara denim duster coat here!

The Secret To My Personal Style

Find Your Personal Style With My Tips…

One of the style questions I get asked regularly, is “How do you define your personal style?” At first, I didn’t know what to say but over the years I have been able to define my personal style more clearly (If you’re interested in that answer, you can read about it here!) and I’ve learned the important lesson of how to find and define your personal style. I am so happy and excited that so many of you look to The Silk Sneaker for style inspiration, so today I wanted to share with you the three secrets to my personal style and how I found it (as well as a spring outfit idea that would be perfect for your fave statement sweater!).

1. I believe in investment pieces
Don’t get me wrong, I love Zara as much as the next girl but some pieces are worth the investment. Whether it’s a pair of trousers, a bag that I know I will love forever, or a pair of amazing shoes, I believe that there are certain pieces that are worth the investment. This is simply because they fit better, they last longer (probably forever; I mean I have accessories that my mom was wearing when she was in college that are still in perfect condition!) and they are eternally stylish. It’s also about pieces that speak personally to me that I know I will forever love and cherish (What I consider classic!). They are also the pieces that I reach for time and time again. For example, you all know how much I love Dior. My Dior bag was one of the best investments I made and it’s helped me curate a wardrobe that is so in line with my personal style!

2. I believe in contrasts and mixing it up…
My personal style is always a mix of two opposites, and it’s actually a great styling trick to use! If I’m wearing a designer piece, I like to match it with a high street piece (an easy way to make you’re whole look more expensive! You can read more about that here). For example, I’ve paired my Chloe sweater with a skirt from the high street and ASOS booties! If I’m wearing a very feminine skirt, I’ll pair it with an oversized sweater or sneakers. Great style is all about great contrasts! After all, one of the things that define my style is my mix of high street and high-end fashion!

3. I believe in not getting swayed by the crowd…
The key to finding your personal style is remembering that it’s personal. Trends can be fun but they are fleeting. If you don’t actually love those new Balenciaga dad sneakers, don’t invest in them or on the dupes either! Don’t be swayed by what’s trending if you don’t love it/it doesn’t suit you. A good question to ask yourself is would I wear this if it wasn’t trending? Remember, confidence shows on the outside and can really make an outfit!

Your style is constantly evolving and changing with you and it’s great to have your sources of inspiration (like me I hope!). The easiest way to find your personal style though is to stay true to yourself! That never fails me!

How To Wear Vinyl Trousers This Spring

I’m Feeling The Vinyl This Spring…

There is no denying that vinyl is a trend that is here and here to stay. Although I’ve been able to create and style so many spring outfit ideas with vinyl skirts, I had always been hesitant about vinyl pants; until now. I finally took the plunge and bought my first pair of vinyl trousers from ASOS a few weeks ago. I was so excited because I realised that they actually make for the perfect spring outfit! I love that you can create a casual outfit that still makes an amazing fashion statement! I suddenly had a surge of style inspiration when I tried them on because they can be matched with so many pieces (spring outfits galore!) but for this look, I paired them with one of my favourite statement sweaters.

I love that the fit of this sweater is sort of sporty, yet fashionable! It’s also so comfortable that I’m wearing it on repeat! I can’t resist a good statement hoodie and I fell in love with this one the minute I saw it. I’m all about mixing high street and high end, but also balancing out my super edgy outfit with a touch of femininity. That’s why I knew my Dior slingbacks were the perfect heels for the look! Paired with my Topshop baker boy hat, I was ready to go!

I know that one of the things I always wondered about vinyl pants was whether they squeaked a lot when you moved around, but luckily these were silent enough for me! I’ve linked to a few more pairs that I’ve found online below that I hope will give you some outfit inspiration for the coming months! Plus, if it were to rain, all I have to do is wipe these clean! Now that is weather appropriate, hah!

I hear we are dealing with what is called the “beast from the east” here in London with the weather dropping to shiver status. I more than anyone am ready to abandon my puffer jacket and ear muffs (yes, it’s so cold I am wearing ear muffs..) and start wearing spring clothes but I think we are going to have to wait another week for that! That being said, it doesn’t mean that we can’t get ahead of the next season right? I’m here to constantly inspire you with the content I create at TSS and to always give you the confidence and style inspiration to be the most stylish you can be! That’s why, I’m already starting to round up the spring outfit ideas for you, starting with this one! This is the one skirt you will not be able to stop wearing this spring.

Tweed is timeless, classy and always in style (think Chanel!). Mix your tweed piece with a retro print and voila, you have this beautiful skirt right here. With the rise of retro prints and two-piece sets coming back with a bang, this skirt is such a steal, so in fashion, and also incredibly versatile! Pair it with your favourite thigh high boots and knit like I have here when the weather gets a bit warmer of course! How To Upgrade Your Bomber Jacket In 2018

The Bomber Jacket is Getting a 2018 Upgrade…

The bomber jacket is a piece that every girl should have in her capsule wardrobe. Time after time, season after season, this one jacket is the key to off-duty style. Since it’s one of my favourites, I happen to have many variations, but today is all about being sporty chic with this particular side stripe bomber jacket. What I love about this piece is that although it has an athleisure vibe to it, it’s so easy to dress it up or down and add some feminine touches. For me, that came in the form of colour. I always find that adding a sense of “chic” to each outfit, elevates any look. That was the idea with this bomber jacket outfit; I went for a totally monochrome pink look! Plus, you guys know that I always love a good pink outfit, like this one here!

Not only did I match the pink of my jacket with the pink in my skirt, I made sure that the sweater underneath was coordinated with the stripes on my bomber jacket. It’s attention to detail that can really make an outfit go from good to great! To really make this outfit street style worthy (while remaining weather appropriate!) I swapped my sneakers for some thigh high boots! That’s how you bring the bomber jacket into 2018!

I’ve never been one for a totally athleisure outfit, that’s why I like to add little bits and pieces that make the trend more me. In this case, it’s colours, but it’s also dainty accessories. These Astrid & Miyu earrings are the perfect everyday piece for any occasion. I love the unique geometric shape! Of course, there is no ignoring my Gucci bee bag! Fun fact: I’m petrified of bees and wasps but somehow I always have accessories that incorporate them!
