The Best Instagram Worthy Spots For Breakfast in London

THAT MORNING COFFEE..

Editors Note: For my favourite Instagram Worthy Cafes in London, see here.

Breakfast is probably my favourite meal of the day and I always look forward to a super yummy one! I love going to try out new restaurants, especially when you’re luring me with a solid french toast and a good cup of coffee. Now, although many of you are probably expecting me to list the likes of Elan Cafe etc. in this post, I actually wanted to share places where I actually enjoy the food AND that can be quite Instagram friendly too! If the coffee isn’t good though, it isn’t worth the gram, right?

So here are some spots where you can still get that perfect Instagram shot, without sacrificing on a super yummy start to your day as well.

AOK KITCHEN

One of the newest openings in Marylebone, AOK Kitchen is somewhere that looks amazing while serving up amazing dishes. Everything is made without refined sugar and the most minimal use of dairy so if you are intolerant to anything like me (I’m dairy intolerant!), then this is the best place to go enjoy a fabulous meal that doesn’t taste like it’s been made with substitutes! The interiors are also so warm and welcoming , especially if you can nab the corner table with the beautiful indoor flower tree.

I highly recommend their pastries, their banana muffin and the pancakes.

FISCHERS

I feel like Fischer’s is not as well known as it’s counterparts, like the Wolseley (also a fab spot!) but the breakfast is equally good! The food is super comforting, with lots of yummy swiss classics that are a hearty start to your day. My favourite thing about this place though is their coffee! I grab it to go as a treat sometimes! Try and grab a spot outside if the weather is lovely and enjoy people watching on one of their little gold tables.

Photo spot: Outside by their quaint little tables

MAYFAIR COMPTOIR

Another small hidden gem in the heart of Mayfair, Mayfair Comptoir is a stone’s throw away from Selfridges. Although the breakfast menu is minimal, they have all your favourite things and they know how to do them really well! The coffee is also super (are you sensing a theme with me and my morning coffee?) and I particularly love their pancakes and their croissants.

MORTIMER HOUSE

Mortimer House is part members club, part restaurant and is open through the day. With lots of natural light streaming in and many spots for you to get comfortable with your laptop/notebook/friend, it’s the perfect spot for some breakfast! I particularly love their eggs and all their juices. If it’s a nice day, I also much prefer to sit outside!

Photo spot: Anywhere! It’s so photogenic!

HARRY’S DOLCE VITA

Although this isn’t the original Harry’s from Venice, Harry’s Dolce Vita in Knightsbridge and now also in Marylebone and Mayfair, is still really good! I am a huge fan of their eggs and their entire breakfast menu is drool worthy for sure! Try to get there early though as it starts to fill up as the weather gets better!

Photo spot: Outside for that Dolce Vita vibe! Their bathroom is also quite cute for a mirror selfie!

Stay tuned for when I add more to this list and please do drop your London suggestions below in the comments!

Now that spring has finally arrived, we can start thinking about the perfect spring and summer outfits! As you start to move into your warm-weather wardrobe, a must have is a cropped denim jacket. It doesn’t matter if you prefer yours to be a classic blue denim or a distressed embellished, a denim jacket is the perfect spring companion! Here is how I’m wearing a denim jacket this season…

I love the idea of creating denim on denim outfit, especially with different shades. I paired my Topshop cropped denim jacket with a denim white mini skirt. I love the idea of stripes especially when the weather gets warmer and my Claudie Pierlot sleevless striped top was the perfect piece for this look. I wanted my outfit to look more chic than casual so I added in my Dior saddlebag and my Dior kitten heels for an ultra-luxe look!

I wanted my accessories to be luxurious but still fun. My evil eye sunglasses chain is the perfect way to stay hands-free this summer while still looking fashionable. I also added in my baker boy hat; still a very cool piece to rock! I would love to know how you are styling your favourite denim pieces this summer! If you haven’t gotten your hands on some ultra cool items though, I’ve linked to some of my favourites below including a newer version of the cropped jacket I’m wearing here!

STYLE TIP: Cropped jackets are perfect if you are petite! They won’t overpower your figure.

3 Tricks for Taking Better Instagram Photos

Luxury fashion blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker shares how to take a better Instagram photo with her three tipsa

INSTA READY

Instagram; everyone’s favourite social media platform. As everyone from your mom to your friend’s cat makes their way onto Instagram and IGTV, standing out can seem harder than ever. If there’s anything I’ve learnt about the Instagram algorithm, it’s that it favours good content above all else. So, how do you take your Instagram level to the next level with better Instagram photos? Today I’m sharing three tips to think about every time you open your camera app to capture that perfect insta-worthy moment.

I would love to hear if you use any of these tips already and how they’ve helped you, or if you have any other questions about Instagram! Leave me a comment below!

I also did a special story on all the apps I use for my Instagram stories to take them to the next level. You can read all about that here.

TURN ON YOUR GRID

When taking a photo in the camera app (or any camera app for that matter), the key to taking a good Instagram photo, and a good photo, in general, is to use the rule of thirds. To put it simply, the camera app will have a grid function which shows you a 3×3 grid on your screen. The key to a good photo is to have the point of interest be in any of the intersections in that grid. That is where your eye naturally draws to first.

I also like to sometimes put myself in the centre of the image, as long as my background allows for that. For example, in this photo here, I was standing on a corner. The pavement on either side was moving inwards to meet in the middle, so your eye is naturally drawn to this point.

A post shared by The Silk Sneaker (@thesilksneaker) on

TRY FOR NATURAL LIGHTING

Natural lighting is always best for taking better Instagram photos. It’s always more appealing to the eye and the balance in the photo will turn out better than you having to go through and fix it later. As you get better with natural light, you’ll notice that when there is too much light the photo can be too harsh, and if there is too little light, there isn’t enough depth. It’s about finding the source of light and trying to face it the best you can.

For example, in this image here, I found a window in a department store and I loved the way the light was coming in. By perching on the window and looking out, the natural light lit my face and created this image.

As you get more confident with lighting, you can also start to experiment with shadows and creating interesting imagery around that.

DON’T BE AFRAID OF COLOURS

It’s always nice to have a pop of colour or a dominant colour in an image, no matter how monochrome heavy it may be. Having that pop of colour in your Instagram photo adds another layer of interest and depth and can also help you when you are thinking about how to put your Instagram feed together.

For example, in this image here, my colours are mainly black and white with gold but I added in that extra touch with the orange earrings and orange bracelet. That small change and detail really made the difference to this photo and gave it a new point of interest.

(Also note the use of symmetry in this photo, my grid was super helpful! But flat lays are a whole new story, would you want me to do a post about them?)

How One Piece from Links of London Changed My Outlook

Links of London Ring

As much as I love growing my jewellery collection, a piece is that much more special when it carries meaning. Whether it is to remember a loved one or mark a moment in your life, personalised jewellery can be a powerful thing, serving far more than any other material possession.

When I decided to start my blog, I was afraid. Forget about reaching for the stars, I was clutching for stable ground. I was nervous about what others would think of me and scared about whether I would be good enough. At that moment, I was gifted a personalised charm from Links of London to mark the moment that I decided to take the plunge and start The Silk Sneaker. Till today, it hangs on my charm bracelet and reminds me of a moment when I felt brave. So, all these years later when Links of London asked me to choose a personalised ring to be engraved, I not only felt a sense of accomplishment, to be able to work with a brand I’ve admired for so long, but also a sense of inspiration; that there’s a long road ahead and I can’t wait to keep going. Although I’m a huge fan of sticking my initials on everything, this time I went for something more symbolic; a star.

The star; a symbol for hope, inspiration and luck.

Shloka Narang, a fashion blogger of The Silk Sneaker styles a Links of London personalised ring with a boho outfit.
Shloka Narang, a fashion blogger of The Silk Sneaker styles a Links of London personalised ring with a boho outfit.

The star is a reminder to never give up. No matter how uninspired or low I might feel, to always get up and keep going; reach for the stars and whatever is beyond. Starting my blog was a challenging experience and till today I can see the judgement when I introduce myself as a “blogger”. I can’t help but cringe when I get asked questions like “So, you sit on Instagram all day right?” The star on my beautiful new ring symbolises persistence, hard work, and never letting anyone dull my sparkle.

So if you could engrave anything on a ring like this one, what would you have engraved? What special moment makes you feel strong? Share with me in the comments below!

My London Fashion Week Diary [February 2018]

It’s Time For

Another year, another fashion week! London Fashion Week took place this past weekend and the capital was flooded with amazing street style, fabulous runway shows and lots of amazing events. I was so excited because this year I got to attend the most beautiful Bora Aksu show, an amazing event with The Clck and of course today I’m going to share it all with you! If there is anything I’ve learned about fashion week, it’s that it’s a marathon, not a sprint! One day into it and I was already exhausted! I’ve linked to some of my favourite essentials below as well! Although it looks like the most glamorous event, there’s a lot of hard work and planning that goes into it. Even so, it really is all worth it!

BORA AKSU

My day started with my most anticipated event, the Bora Aksu runway show. The designer took his inspiration from a famous Georgian surgeon. She was one of the first women in her field, but had to dress like a man to do her job. The collection highlighted this contrast through it’s use of masculine silhouettes with feminine touches. (Think waist belts, pops of pink and ruffles) as well as it’s beautiful lace and sheer dresses and floral patterns. The whole collection blew me away and there really was no better way to start the day!

The @bora_aksu collection was inspired by a female Georgian surgeon who pretended to be a man to do her job. With a mix of masculine silhouettes, playful colours and feminine lace and ruffles, the collection was gorgeous 💕 • • • #fashion #lfw #londonfashionweek #video #fashionvideo #boraaksu #fblogger #londonblogger #london #luxuryblogger #fashionfilm #love

WHAT I WORE

This fashion week I really did not want to dress for the cameras. I wanted to dress for myself. What is personal style, if not for yourself? I think it is so easy to be overwhelmed by the street style and wanting to be noticed, however at the end of the day, if you aren’t true to yourself there is no point. I think this outfit is really “me”. I found this gorgeous green suede duster from Jovonna London at Topshop a few months ago. Paired with my favourite pattern, plaid of course, and some of my must have accessories, I knew this was going to be a winner! My final touch was my brand new lip colour from Nars. It’s called Hell Gate! It’s one of the few reds that I actually love and recommend.

Turtleneck: Uniqlo

THE CLCK LUNCH

I finished off my day with an amazing blogger lunch held by The Clck at the Me Hotel London. It’s the perfect spot at fashion week because it’s right next to all the shows! We had the most photogenic lunch, with champagne, amazing views of London and lots of girl gang photo ops! I even got to hang out with some of my favourite bloggers from London and around the world! It was the perfect way to end the day!

The Prettiest Cafes in London

Fashion blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker showcases some of the most Instagrammable cafes in London

They Look As Good As They Taste…

In an age of Instagram, what it looks like is as important as what it tastes like! As much as I love my food, I am guilty of secretly loving a place for looking beautiful as well and I know I’m not the only one. Today I wanted to share with you some of Londons most  “instagrammable” cafes. If Instagram isn’t your game though, this list is just five of the prettiest cafes in London that are just worth a visit! Whether it’s for the gram, a day out, a dose of inspiration or just a damn good cup of coffee, these five places will not fail you!

Peggy Porschen

The lines are long and the place is small but Peggy Porschen is worth the wait. Not only is the entrance to this little cafe famous (you would have to be living under a rock to not have seen this on your feed at some point) but the cupcakes are so incredibly yummy! My favourite is the strawberries and champagne cupcake. If I were to ever break my sugar rule, this would be one of the things I would do it for! Plus I love when something tastes as good as it grams!

Elan Cafe Knightsbridge

The latest spot to hit London is Elan cafe Knightsbridge. Although Elan has it’s original branch in Mayfair, it’s latest Knightsbridge opening is one of the prettiest places I’ve ever been. If you’re wondering where the famous cafe with the flower wall is, you’ve just found it. Complete with pink croissants, blue latte’s and overall, just some yummy food, Elan is another gorgeous spot that makes it feel like it’s springtime in London all year round. Plus, anywhere with fun neon signs is great in my book!

The Ivy Chelsea Garden

The Ivy is always a must visit, whether you go to their Tower Bridge restaurant, the Marylebone cafe, or the original in Chelsea. Regardless of whether they have their famous flower door on display or not, it’s a gorgeous spot to sit and enjoy your coffee or a glass of wine. I would highly recommend visiting when the weather is warmer! That’s when it really shines!

Fashion blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker showcases some of the most Instagrammable cafes in London

Dalloway Terrace

What I love about Dalloway terrace is that it changes with the seasons. During the winter it’s a glorious winter wonderland, in the spring, it’s a stunning garden. Regardless of when you go you can’t resist the gorgeous striped cups and the warm interiors. It makes you want to sit there all day long! Plus, the food is super yummy! Although I’m not an avocado on toast kind of girl (shock and horror, I don’t like avocado), I hear it’s pretty good!

Sketch

Sketch is an incredibly famous London spot for tea, drinks, dinner and everything else. Each room has something new to offer, even the bathrooms. If you can manage a tea here, it’s well worth it, but otherwise I suggest just dropping in for a drink! Be sure to take a round of their famous pink tea room and stop by the futuristic bathroom! You won’t be sorry!

Of course, there are so many more gorgeous spots in London. Two that I would also highly recommend would be NAC (stands for North Audley Canteen) for their amazing food and adorable interiors, and Aubaine Selfridges because it’s just stunning with the hanging lavender and lilac vibes.

What are your favourite London cafes?
