How To Wear The Mismatched Earrings Trend

Luxury fashion blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker describes the do's and don't to autumn winter trend mismatched earrings

By now we are all familiar with the trends for autumn winter 2018-2019; leopard prints, cowboy boots, belt bags and so much more. (In case you aren’t familiar with them though, you can read my post about the trends you can actually wear and should wear right here). What you may not be familiar with though are some of the micro trends, mainly the micro jewellery trends for the season. My favourite, of course, is mismatched earrings. If you’ve been watching my outfits closely over the past year and if you have a sharp memory from London Fashion Week, mismatched earrings are something I’ve been wearing for a little while now. I love the playfulness of this trend and it really gives you the opportunity to get creative with your collection. Someone once asked me if I had any tips to make a trend that seems so intimidating, more wearable, so ive broken it down into three do’s and dont’s to wearing mismatched earrings:

Luxury fashion blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker shares how to make a leopard print top more stylish with three special outfit tricks she learnt from fashion week

Do’s

Do play with length: What’s great about this trend is that you can wear one earring that’s incredibly long and one stud. Asymmetry works really well with this trend.

Do play with shapes: It also works to pair shapes together, for example, you can pair a large statement hoop with a tiny stud. In fact, Dior sells pairs of earrings that are like that.

Do match materials: A great way to make this trend more wearable for you is to match stones. If one side has pearl details, make sure the other side does as well. Same with metals, keep it to gold or silver.

Don’ts

Don’t Mix two statements: The mismatched look is statement enough, so make sure that one side is the “statement” and the other side is subtle.

Don’t be afraid: Wear this trend with confidence. One of the biggest tricks I’ve learnt when it comes to wearing anything is that if you believe it everyone else will too. Wear it with confidence because it looks great!

Links of London Ring

As much as I love growing my jewellery collection, a piece is that much more special when it carries meaning. Whether it is to remember a loved one or mark a moment in your life, personalised jewellery can be a powerful thing, serving far more than any other material possession.

When I decided to start my blog, I was afraid. Forget about reaching for the stars, I was clutching for stable ground. I was nervous about what others would think of me and scared about whether I would be good enough. At that moment, I was gifted a personalised charm from Links of London to mark the moment that I decided to take the plunge and start The Silk Sneaker. Till today, it hangs on my charm bracelet and reminds me of a moment when I felt brave. So, all these years later when Links of London asked me to choose a personalised ring to be engraved, I not only felt a sense of accomplishment, to be able to work with a brand I’ve admired for so long, but also a sense of inspiration; that there’s a long road ahead and I can’t wait to keep going. Although I’m a huge fan of sticking my initials on everything, this time I went for something more symbolic; a star.

The star; a symbol for hope, inspiration and luck.

The star is a reminder to never give up. No matter how uninspired or low I might feel, to always get up and keep going; reach for the stars and whatever is beyond. Starting my blog was a challenging experience and till today I can see the judgement when I introduce myself as a “blogger”. I can’t help but cringe when I get asked questions like “So, you sit on Instagram all day right?” The star on my beautiful new ring symbolises persistence, hard work, and never letting anyone dull my sparkle.

So if you could engrave anything on a ring like this one, what would you have engraved? What special moment makes you feel strong? Share with me in the comments below!

Going from desk to drinks can be a stressful affair for most of us. The trick to the perfect day to night outfit lies in the little things. I've always said that accessories can really pull your look together, that being said, they can also change your look! One of the key ways to take your day outfit to a night outfit is with the right jewelry. Small pieces can completely change the look and feel of your whole outfit! Here to help me with that is AUrate Jewellery. AUrate (Pronounced Or-ate; like telling a story) is an ethical jewelry brand based in NYC. AUrate believes that you shouldn't have to choose between fair prices, ethical production, good quality and beautiful products. You can have it all with their gorgeous pieces! What I love most about this brand is the ethics behind it. Not only is every single part of their supply chain ethical, but for every piece of jewelry that you buy from them, an underprivileged child receives a book. Beautiful jewelry with a great cause - suddenly I don't feel so guilty about shopping! You can learn more about AUrate here! Scroll down for the perfect day to night look.

Jewellery is About Personalisation…

Jewellery is a part of our everyday routines. We all have those pieces that we wear everyday. The ones we feel empty without. The ones that mean something to us. When I choose jewellery, personalisation is one of the most important parts. I like to pick pieces that represent my personality, that remind me of special moments, that mean something to me! That’s one of the many reasons that I love Thomas Sabo and was so excited to be able to work with them to share how I personalise my jewellery.  Personalisation isn’t just about engraving (Although anyone who knows me, knows that I love to engrave my initials on to everything!). It’s also about picking pieces that represent who you are and what makes you happy. Charms are a great way of doing this. I love charms because they are such versatile pieces. You can hang them from a charm bracelet or a necklace, and most of all, they represent you. Thomas Sabo has such a variety of silver charms, there’s something for everyone. I picked an S of course, to represent the first initial of my name, Shloka, and also for the Silk Sneaker! The evil eye is a symbol of protection I have always been drawn to. The stars and moon charm reminds me to never stop dreaming. I like to aim for the stars in everything I do, and nothing should hold me back! Jewellery is personal in more ways than charms. It’s a way for us to express our style. I love when jewellery is able to add subtle and elegant touches to an outfit. It’s what draws a look together, and makes you feel more complete. Layering rings, like this silver ring from Thomas Sabo, is always a great way to do that! I love that every single piece makes my outfit feel more personal, and helps me showcase my personal style. What are your favourite charms? How do you get personal with jewellery?
