How To Pull Off a Monochrome Outfit

A Blue Monochrome Look is Always Stylish…

Although a monochrome outfit seems intimidating, wearing one shade in one look is actually a very easy way to elevate your look. It’s no wonder that it’s a street style favourite! I’m here to show you a monochrome outfit idea with one of the trending colours for the next season, blue. (Think Dior F/W show – every beautiful shade of blue!) There are a few key tricks and tips to keep in mind when wearing a monochrome outfit.  Firstly, remember that it doesn’t all have to be the same shade. If you opt for cream, each piece can be a varying shade. In this case, my blues are all different shades but they all come together to create the same chic effect!  Secondly, pay attention to the shapes and cuts of your pieces. The trick to wearing and pulling off one colour is making sure that your silhouette is flattering. I love the cut of this blue top but it needed something very fitted at the bottom.  Lastly, wear it with confidence! Although monochrome may seem intimidating, once you wear it you instantly look chic! Don’t be afraid to try the look, it’s a tried and tested favourite – just find the right colour for you, even if it’s black, and go for it!

Your Maxi Skirt Isn’t Just For The Beach…

Firstly, can anyone else believe it’s August?! Where has the time gone? Or rather, where has summer gone? I’m happy that everyone has a few more holidays in their calendars before we say “see you later” to summer. With that in mind, I know that many of you think it’s time to abandon your favourite summer items. Hold on just a little longer! I’m here to tell you that you can make the most of your maxi skirt and show you how to wear a maxi skirt in the city. Your favourite beach piece just got a city upgrade with this maxi skirt outfit!  Red is having a major moment and it’s very much around for the next season. It also happens to be one of my favourite colours so I am more than happy to hold on to this Zara maxi! As someone very petite you would think that I can’t wear maxi’s but if you’re a petite girl like me, I’m telling you you can! (In fact, read my post here on how to look taller!) I paired my maxi with my favourite Gucci tee. By tying the tee shirt and showing a bit of midriff skin, I’m able to look a bit taller and not get lost in the loose silhouette of the skirt!  What do you think about wearing your maxi this way?

Whether you’re attending a party or or event, or whether you are hosting one, getting ready is a big feat. There is so much planning that goes into the event before, during and even after. As someone who has held many a dinner, party and event already, I’ve picked up a few tips that are the building blocks to success regardless of what you’re doing. The lovely people over at Paperless Post have teamed up with me to share with you how to get ready for your next party or event. Keep scrolling for my top 5 must do’s, whether you are a guest or a host!

Fashion blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker shares her top five tips for how to plan a party with Paperless Post

1. Plan in Advance

Irregardless of whether you are the host or the attendee you must plan in advance! As a guest, this means planning out what you’re going to wear, how long will it take for you to get there and do you need to take anything for the host in advance! This equals you saving a lot of time on the day, not scrambling around but rather getting ready calmly and feeling and looking your best!

As a host, you need to plan out not only what you’re going to wear, but what you need for your event. Create a to do list and make sure to strike it all off before your event! Most importantly, remember to send out a save the date and an invitation to your guests with all the details they need. What’s lovely about doing this is that it’s a lovely personal touch for everyone attending and it keeps your event in their minds! Paperless Post have so many different options for beautiful cards that you can send!

2. Follow the Dress Code

When a host puts down a dress code be sure to follow it. Solely because by doing so you are helping in creating the mood and ambiance for your host and their event. If the dress code is formal, don’t come in a tee shirt and jeans! Be sure to respect the wishes of your host! As a host, I find that dress codes help your guest understand the mood of your party and can prepare and plan in advance accordingly!

3. Be On Time

I literally cannot stress this enough. Be. On. Time. I grew up in India which runs on its own seperate timing. We call it Indian Standard Time where everyone arrives at least half an hour late. Please, do not do this. As a guest, be sure to arrive at the time that is specified, or 15 minutes later if it’s a dinner at the latest or maybe a bit later if it’s a party! It’s super rude to keep your host waiting for too long!

If you are a host, be sure to be ready for your guests a few minutes before the specified arrival time. In case you do have guests who are not on time, try and be as gracious as possible! You are the host after all!

4. Be Attentive

One of the key things that make a good host is being attentive. As a host, you should know whether your guests have any allergies, who speaks to who? Who do you think would get along? Be sure to speak to everyone but also to make sure that everyone is comfortable and having a good time. Although this means being on your feet a lot, I find the thrill of being a host exhilarating! This also means being as understanding to your guests needs as possible. Someone needs to leave early? Someone needs something specific? Try and accommodate them!

As a host, you need to be attentive as well. Be mindful that the host may take some time to get to you, but also that you are at someone else’s event and you need to be aware of that!

5. Always Say Thank You

This is probably one of the most important points. Regardless of whether you are hosting or attending an event never forget to say thank you. As a host, regardless of whether your guest may have to leave early, come late, whatever it is, never forget to say thank you to them for making the evening special. As a guest, you should always be gracious and thank your host for the lovely evening.

I find that one of the best ways to say thank you is through a card. Paperless Post let’s you send out a thank you card either as a hard copy or straight to an email! How handy!

What are your tips for getting ready for an event? Do you prefer e-vites or physical ones?

How To Wear a Sheer Top and Still Look Classy

Fashion blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker showcases how to wear a sheer top

You Won’t Be Able To Live Without This Sheer Top…

The sheer top. We’ve seen it everywhere, from designers on the runway to Kylie and Gigi. There is no denying that the sheer top is not an easy one to pull off. You have to be careful to not show too much but at the same time to look trendy. So how do you wear a sheer top and still look trendy? I think that it’s important to choose the right shape and style for you. If you’re going for a sporty look, a straight cut and slim fitting sheer top is best. For me, I wanted something that was more of a statement piece. What I love about this black sheer top is the volume in the sleeves. The huge sleeves help make this outfit classier!

A good sheer top can also be taken from day to night. I got countless of messages from all of you when I put this top up on my Instagram stories. I wore it with these khaki shorts in the day for a more casual yet classy look and I switched to trousers on the bottom with a pair of heels for a more formal look. Either way, my sheer top did not fail me.

Sheer tops like these with so much volume and statement can sometimes seem intimidating to wear in the day. Pairing such a formal piece on top with khaki shorts helps to tone down the look for a more street style effect. I added in my trusty sneakers to make sure that I was ready for the day!
