It’s the second post (click here for part one) in my summer to autumn series and if there’s anything we’ve learnt from the autumn winter collections for 2018, it’s that summer colours are here to stay and animal prints are ruling. I couldn’t be happier because it makes it even easier to create transitional outfits as the weather gets cooler! Today is all about how to wear your summer dress in the autumn while making it season appropriate! I’ve also shared some great tips on working those animal prints into your look. The key to making this outfit work is to understand how to layer.

The first step is to pick the right dress. A summer dress with an asymmetrical hem or a maxi to midi length will always work better than your shorter pieces. This is particularly key to being able to layer the look.

As with any transitional outfit, it’s about combining summer pieces with autumn pieces as I’ve done here with this & Other Stories pink sweater. I layered it over my Maje white dress to create a whole new look. I love the burst of colour with the pink; especially since it’s still a strong trend for the coming autumn-winter season. I also added in a belt to just give my silhouette more of a shape with the oversized sweater.

To really pull the outfit together I looked to my animal print accessories. Snake print pieces are trending this autumn and if you aren’t ready for a top to toe printed outfit, invest in snake print accessories instead. These ASOS snake print boots are from a few years ago but have lasted me so well. I’ve linked to a very similar pair from them for you to get your hands on before it sells out. My Loewe bag was also the perfect match for this look. I love how it’s a shiny texture, to contrast the boots.

If you live in a warmer country and you still want to try a layered look, I would try this look with a light weight hoodie instead! Its autumn appropriate and has an edgier style. You can also recreate the look with a cotton long sleeve round neck.

Would you try this layering trick? Let me know in the comments below!

FRESH NEW SEASON

Your ultimate guide to the chicest autumn winter fashion trends that you can actually incorporate into your wardrobe.

All images taken from Pinterest and Vogue.com

With New York Fashion Week having officially kicked off, all eyes are turned to the runways and street style stars, however, there is no ignoring the lust worth autumn winter fashion trends that are hitting the stores and our wardrobes this September. Whether you are feeling a little wild for animal prints or nostalgic for 70’s corduroy, this season promises trends that are sure to look chic.

Of course, like with any season, there are those trends that only look good coming down a runway but in my trend guide, you will only find the chic fashion trends for autumn winter that you can actually wear. Not only have I given you some styling tips for each one, but I’ve also linked to some fabulous pieces from the high street (Save your £££ for the classics right?)

Like with any trend, it’s important to remember to work it into a classic look to truly reach a new level of chic. I love a good trend as much as the next girl but it’s all about staying true to your style as well. I hope you find my tips for that useful! Leave me a comment with your favourite trend and how you are going to be wearing it.

ANIMAL PRINTS

This autumn winter is all about letting your wild side run loose with animal prints. This trend is more than just your standard leopard print skirt. We are seeing a large influx of zebra and snake prints too. Don’t be afraid to go all out with this one and layer it into your look with different textures too. If you’re a bit afraid of a full-blown printed piece, opt for accessories like printed scarves or a clutch! See my shopping edit below!

Style Tip

Keep your look classic by pairing your animal print with a neutral like white, black or even earth tones. Letting that one print take centre stage will make your outfit effortlessly chic.

70’S STYLE NEUTRALS

Black and white are staples in our wardrobes but this season’s neutrals are reminiscent of the 70’s. Think beautiful browns, caramel tones and deep berries. All these earthy shades suit almost every skin tone and you can create a beautiful outfit by combining all these colours with your simple basics. That’s when you know a trend is eternally classic!

I’ve linked to some beautiful pieces below, including a few textured pieces in another trending material for the season, corduroy.

Dior, Versace, Fendi

PLAID HERITAGE PRINTS

There are some trends that we see year after year come autumn winter and plaid is one of them. So much so, that I’m not sure why we even call it a trend anymore! Plaid and tartan are back as heritage prints this season, with a bold update. We are seeing more than just your usual black and white skirt this year. Look for colourful variations of this classic as well as trousers and jackets.

I have to admit that this is one of my favourite patterns for the season, a girl can never have enough plaid in her wardrobe! Trust me on that one, especially when you’re shopping my edit here.

Whether you are feeling a little wild for animal prints or nostalgic for 70’s corduroy, this season promises trends that are sure to look chic.

COWBOY BOOTS

The cowgirl look is back and I could never have imagined a more high fashion update than the one it’s gotten this season. I’ve been spotting cowboy boots all over the runway, Instagram and the street style scene. There is no ignoring this amazing trend and it’s also one that I’ve invested in myself. I love my cowboy boots so much that I’ve worn them almost every day. Get ready to be seeing them all over my outfits over the next few months!

STATEMENT JUMPERS

If you thought statement jumpers were just a fad on Instagram, you’ll be happy to learn that they are continuing on this season, stronger than ever. With more and more designer brands opting in for statement slogan sweaters, this is becoming a way to not only express your fashion sense but your personality too. I’ve always been a huge fan of this, as we’ve seen through my love for slogan t shirts!

Style Tip

Think about the colours you choose to create an outfit around a slogan sweater. Is the sweater a bold colour? Pair with a neutral. Does it have a touch of colour? See how else you can work in that colour/shade into your outfit!

SCARF PRINTS

Something about this trend is so “The Crown” to me. Does anyone else get that vibe? Either way, channel your favourite royal and opt for lots of scarf prints this season. We’ve already seen Zara pounce on this trend with this amazing skirt, which I am sure is going to be all over the street style scene this fashion month.

Style Tip
I know that a trend like this can seem intimidating, so ease into it by adding a printed scarf to your outfit. Try tying the scarf around your plain turtleneck for a burst of colour and fun. I actually did exactly that right here.

THE 80’S WOMAN

Here’s your time to let your inner Madonna come out! Think black and white, power shoulders and full-on girl boss. Let your party dresses run on the shorter side and don’t shy away from those shoulder pads in your blazer. Add a super sleek hat for that extra touch. I particularly loved the silhouette created by Saint Laurent this season, with the slouchy shirts tucked into the leather trousers, very powerful. Don’t forget the Marc Jacob’s ode to the 80’s either!

Essentially, this trend is all about being the girl boss you know you are.

Getting the most out of your wardrobe in any season is all about clever styling. Your favourite piece doesn’t always have to be constrained to one season whether that’s a gorgeous summer dress or a pleated maxi skirt. As we begin to transition into the colder months, I’m sharing a three-part series on how to transition your wardrobe from summer to fall, starting with your favourite summer skirt. A pleated maxi skirt is a staple in any closet, and when you come to love a piece so much, why should you have to put it away so quickly Today is about how to style a summer skirt in the fall while still looking chic and feeling it too.

Summer To Fall Styling

A maxi or midi pleated skirt is an ultra feminine piece but if you’ve been reading TSS for long enough now you know that I love to create an outfit with contrasts. To add a little bit of edge, I paired my white skirt with another staple in your wardrobe; the leather jacket. I love the look of a masculine piece combined with a feminine one, especially for summer to fall. I wore a tank top inside but really wanted to use the jacket as my top for a unique look. I know that a good quality leather jacket can be expensive, but it’s a purchase that will last you for life and is worth the investment.

Another great variation on this look, especially if you live in a country like India (shout out to my Indian followers!) is to swap the leather jacket for a blazer. You can always wear a bandeau on the inside as well!

I carried on this theme with my accessories. Of course, my current obsession is cowboy boots (get ready to see them A LOT) and they worked so beautifully with the pleated skirt since they aren’t too high. I also added in one more summery touch with my Gas hoop earrings. Truly, this outfit is a mix of my favourite summer pieces with my favourite fall ones!

Would you try this look? How do you transition your summer wardrobe?

Luxury blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker shares her five tips on how to prolong your summer tan

5 Ways To Prolong Your Summer Tan This Fall

KEEP THAT SUMMER TAN…

ALL AUTUMN LONG…

Luxury blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker shares her five tips on how to prolong your summer tan

If you aren’t ready to let go of your gorgeous summer tan yet, then this is for you; Today is all about how to prolong your summer tan for a beautiful autumn glow! Since I’m a natural brown girl, I’ve never had to use self-tanner but I have learnt a few tips and tricks to enhance that sun-kissed colour so you can make your tan last longer. Here are my 5 tips to prolong your summer tan for an autumn glow.

Luxury blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker shares her five tips on how to prolong your summer tan

1. USE A TAN MAXIMISER

I discovered this Lancaster Tan Maximiser after I came back from Jamaica and it helped me keep my tan looking so gorgeous for the whole summer in between all my travels. It not only soothes your skin after it’s been in the sun, but it really brings out a beautiful golden colour on your skin.

2. MOISTURE, MOISTURE, MOISTURE

When your skin is dry and starts to crack, your tan is likely to crack and disappear with it. That’s why it’s important to keep your skin hydrated and moisturised, from the inside out. Drink plenty of water through the day and moisturise your skin with your favourite moisturiser morning and night.

Be sure to hydrate your body from the inside out; drink plenty of water to keep your skin fresh.

3. KEEP IT (LUKE) WARM

As the weather gets colder I know this gets harder, however, a very warm shower is more likely to make your tan fade away so keep the shower temperature as low as you can manage to keep your skin looking fresh and sun-kissed.

4. GET YOUR GLOW

One of my favourite ways to enhance my tan and keep it looking it’s best is to use shimmer semi-tinted lotions and oils. My favourite is the Nuxe shimmer oil which gives your body that slight glow and burst of colour. I especially love to use it on my legs, and my collarbone. It’s almost like a highlighter for your body!

5. CAREFUL WITH EXFOLIATION

It’s important to keep exfoliating your skin to keep it looking fresh however be careful not to exfoliate too hard as this will cause your tan to wear off. Opt for a soft brush in the shower or a dry brush before you hop in to get the dead skin off but keep your colour in tact. A wonderful mild scrub is the Jo Malone Shower Gel & Scrub; it’s perfect to keep the tan on!

So, what is pre fall fashion exactly? Not only do we have four distinct seasons, we also have the strange “I’m too hot but too cold, but I’m bored with my current wardrobe rotation” season. Sound familiar? Fashion’s answer to this is pre fall; when we are gearing ourselves and our wardrobes for the seasonal transition to autumn. Like any collection, pre fall fashion has its own trends, as well as it’s do’s and donts. So, if you are unsure about how to dress for this in-between season we are having right now, I’m sharing three exclusive styling tips to mastering the art of pre fall fashion. It’s all about bringing in the new while holding on to your classics and with my three tips, your outfit is bound to be classically chic.

New Season, New Colours

Summer may be light colours all the way, but your fall palette is all about those beautiful, rich earth tones, A great way to transition your style into fabulous autumn outfits is with colours. Start by bringing in touches of khaki, rust, mustards and more into your outfits for an effortlessly stylish look. I stuck with my white denim skirt from the summer but paired it with a rust coloured top and my neutral coloured blazer.

Bring in Seasonal Textures & Prints

My plaid blazer is not my warmest piece which is why it’s the perfect one to be layering with as the weather gets cooler. It’s also a great way to bring in fall patterns while still being appropriately dressed for the temperature. Tartan, plaid and houndstooth are all classic pre-fall and fall winter trends that are always in fashion and will never go out of style. You can never go wrong with a classic right? So if you have a skirt in any of those patterns that you’ve been waiting to wear, your time is now!

Accessories are always the perfect finishing touch.

There is no denying the power of the right accessories. They can make or break your look, which is why it’s all about using your accessories in a clever way. Belt bags are trending for the upcoming season but if you’re wondering how to style a belt bag for now, here’s your answer. I used my belt bag as a way to add more definition to my silhouette over my blazer. It’s a trendy and chic way to work it into your outfit! I also opted for another trending piece; the cowboy boots. I’ll be doing more on them later (shoe of the month anyone?).

I find every season in fashion to be exciting, including pre-fall. It’s a great way to start thinking of fabulous outfit ideas for fall while still wearing all your favourite summer pieces. These are also great tips if you live in a country where it doesn’t get very cold but you still want to experiment with fall fashion! I would love to know what you guys think of the look and if you’ve been trying any of these tips! Comment below!
