Paris Fashion Week in Pink

There is no hiding how excited I was to be able to attend Paris Fashion Week this year and I gave you a very quick glimpse of my fashion week outfit over Instagram and through my Paris Fashion Week diary which you can read here, for all my Paris favourites! Today I’m finally sharing all the details of my outfit with you, including direct links to all my pieces! I know how much you guys all loved the blouse I was wearing especially. It actually surprised a lot of people when I told them that it was from Self-Portrait!

I opted for this Self-Portrait blouse because I loved the colour combination of pink and red, and of course when I saw the ruffles on the sleeves I fell in love immediately. Something about the romantic sleeves immediately made me think of Paris! I always find that when I overthink a look it comes out as forced, so I wanted my look to really stay true to me and my personal style. With that in mind, I trusted my instinct and paired the blouse with a pair of khaki trousers – tailored and chic! Of course no look is complete without accessories and I couldn’t think of anything more perfect than my mother’s original Chanel pumps. (How amazing that she’s kept them in such fabulous condition? especially sine they don’t make this heel anymore!)

For some added texture, I went for this Loewe pouch, easy to fit everything I need and look stylish with, along with some statement earrings! Of course, we got very lucky that the sun came out just at the right moment, so I was able to wear my Song of Style x Gentle Monster sunnies too!

My Paris Fashion Week Diary

Fashion blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker shares her experience at Paris Fashion Week

When I was invited to Paris Fashion Week this year, I was literally so excited I couldn’t contain it! My first ever Paris Fashion Week and I just couldn’t believe it! What’s more is that I was invited to go see an Indian designer, Rahul Mishra, who shows at PFW every year – I loved being able to cover a designer who came from my home country! Although I was just going to see one show, we decided to make a weekend of it and have a look around as well. It’s been years since I was in Paris last, so I took my 48 hours there to explore a little bit. Although it rained literally all weekend, the sun could feel when I was ready to take outfit photos and actually came out for just a little while on both days! More on those outfits later, for now see what I got up to at Paris Fashion Week!

We arrived to an incredibly rainy Paris! I actually forgot my umbrella (this is why you don’t pack last minute… and after a very long, and potentially boozy dinner) so when we got off the Eurostar I actually got pretty wet in the rain! I managed to salvage my hair but it totally explains why I have an awful cold now back in London! Even then, I wasn’t going to let anything get in the way of me feeling beyond ecstatic to be in one of the most beautiful cities in the world! We started the day with of course lunch! We found a little café called Chez Francis and I didn’t wait even 3 seconds before I ordered the steak tartare and chips! It was divine! Post lunch, we walked around all the beautiful little streets of Paris and of course we couldn’t miss a visit to Colette! One of the coolest stores in Paris! I was obsessed with all the unique pieces they had in there! After all the walking around, we were ready for another coffee break and some dessert. One of my favourite spots for coffee and cake was Angelina – the hot chocolate is divine and the cake selection is amazing! How cute are they?

By this point it was time for me to get ready for the show! It seems the weather Gods heard my prayers and for a brief 20 minutes the sun began to shine just for us to be able to take some photos of my Paris Fashion Week look! I’ll be covering this look in more detail for you guys tomorrow along with direct links to everything I wore! I was so excited to be able to attend a show of an Indian designer and am so proud of all the talent that comes out of my home country! The show was beyond beautiful and there were so many pieces that I just can’t wait to get my hands on! I loved that Rahul Mishra took his inspiration from Van Gogh’s sunflowers and I saw elements of the artists techniques in some of the pieces in the show, such as the sun flower appliqué on the tops, and the beautiful bomber jackets. One of my favourite pieces though was a beautiful striped number that was totally backless! By the end of it I was feeling so inspired not only by all the amazing pieces that walked down the catwalk, but also by the fabulous styling! Plus even the shoes were great!

After this we were starving! We had dinner at one of the cutest spots ever! The restaurant was called Chez Monsieur and trust me, the calories I consumed were so worth it. We started with escargots, which are my favourites! I remember the first time I tried escargot and I immediately couldn’t stop eating them! Following this we moved on to the scallops in a creamy truffle sauce with water chestnuts and I promise it took me all of 5 minutes to consume it all! To end the meal, we had the most divine profiteroles EVER. Basically – best dinner ever.

On the second day, we had most of the morning and early afternoon to continue our exploration. We started with brunch at what has quickly become my favourite spot in Paris, L’Avenue. The tarte tartin was one of the best I’ve ever had, and I’m sure you guys all saw it on my insta stories! We then continued to walk around and made our way to the gardens of the Palais Royale, and then just wandered and let ourselves get a little lost! The sun came out again which was beautiful and we were able to enjoy how beautiful this city is! As it was Sunday most things were closed, but it didn’t stop us from just taking it all in!

We had to rush to get our train only to realise there were massive delays – it took us about 6 hours in total from the time we reached the station to the time we got home, the delays were insane! Either way, it was one of the most magical weekends and I am beyond excited that I was able to attend Paris Fashion Week this season! Did you get to see all the action live via my Insta stories?

A New Take On Your Spring Dress

Fashion blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker showcases an easy style tip to make a spring dress feel new again with & Other Stories Dress and Zara jacket

Happy First Week of Spring!

Whether you believe it or not, spring is finally here and that means it’s time for spring dresses! I’ve been longing to start getting my dresses out and bare legs have been one of the things I’ve been looking forward to more than anything about the weather finally getting warmer! Although I’m excited to get my spring dresses out, sometimes it’s fun to hit refresh on your old favourites and make them feel new again. It’s easier than you think and it just needs a simple and quick styling trick like the one I’m about to show you!

I wanted to make my dress feel new and different an the easiest way to do that is to just throw on a layer and a belt! It’s as simple as that! I added one of my favourite cargo jackets over this dress because I love the contrast of the edgy cargo with the more feminine frilly collar of this dress. To really pull the look together, I put a belt over the jacket and voila! Same old dress, but totally new look and feel! How simple right? I also added another very feminine and simple accessory to my look which is the black ribbon in my hair! It’s another easy and simple styling trick and one that is having such a major moment right now!

Sailor Pants for Almost Spring

Fashion blogger Shloka Narang showcases a spring outfit to wear now with sailor pants and khaki

Dressing for what is almost spring…

There is no one more excited than me that after the hail storm that we had yesterday, the sun is back out and shining today! Be gone rain, bring us cherry blossoms and rosé all day weather please! Although it is deceivingly bright outside, don’t let London fool you. It’s still a bit too cold for full on spring so keep your favourite knits at the ready! For me, it’s about combining those pieces that are a little bit spring and a little bit winter to create the perfect mid season look, but also a look that says “I am a great spring outfit!” I think that this outfit captures all those sentiments pretty well.

These sailor pants from Isabel Marant have been in my closet for a while now and they are the only pants I have that are flared. I don’t usually opt for that cut but I love that these suit my body shape and height so perfectly! Plus the button details make tucking anything in to them so much more stylish! With white pants, I went for my current favourite neutral which is none other than khaki. I know that khaki has been having a major moment on my blog recently, it’s just because I cannot seem to get enough of it ever! Such an eternally stylish colour don’t you think? This sweater has this gorgeous waist tie detail that I love! It accentuates the waist, but it also reminds me of all the waist details I saw on the S/S 2017 runway! In trend but also classic!

If we just briefly touch on my accessories that are very minimal here. I went for a silk scarf – another ode to the upcoming season. I love this scarf because of its floral pattern which adds a bit of life and dimension to the textures already in my look. Plus it just pulls in all the colours together a bit more! The scarf is from Gucci but I have linked to some other printed scarves below that I just love – I think a good scarf can literally make any outfit that much better! A good tip is to always try nd incorporate the scarf into your outfit in a different way! (More on that later!)

My shoes and bag can be described as nothing less than classics! The shoes are a notable favourite of mine. These are actually the original Chanel pumps that were made those many years ago. My mother bought these when she was here at college and then passed the same shoes down to me. Although the current version of these don’t have the little kitten heel, I love these originals because not only are they super comfortable, but they have a personal connection. (I mean clearly my mum can take care of her stuff!)

The Statement Tee

Fashion Blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker styles a statement tee featuring a Gucci tee shirt and Louis Vuitton Clutch

Making a statement just requires the right kind of tee shirt right now…

Trust me when I say this, a cool tee shirt and jeans/tights will never fail you. I lived in this uniform for most of my high school career and it carried me through the summer post the IB, which for the rest of you who took the IB will know, is one hell of a relief! So when statement tees started making the rounds on the fashion circuit once again, I was beyond excited. What better way to rock this girl in true Shloka style, then with this Gucci tee? (I’ve linked to some other options, including some affordable ones below!) I shared this tee shirt when I first got it over the winter in India and it’s been one of my favourite things to wear ever since.

The statement tee shirt has come back and not just with logo mania, but with statements that are actually relevant to what’s happening in the world right now. We saw it on the Dior runway where we were told how “We Should All Be Feminists” and this tee Gucci tee shirt, along with a fair few, have been all over. The key to really having your statement tee stand out though, is being true to yourself and styling it your own way. For me, it’s all about that effortless style while being comfortable. I like to mix patterns, so I opted for these graphic Zara tights and a cozy sweater over for that dose of casual chic! My pointed flats also add that extra touch of elegance to balance out the whole look! Of course, I can’t forget about my beautiful clutch. I love how the red on the tee shirt and the red on the clutch matched so beautifully and you know I can’t resist some colour play!

In other news, fashion month is in full swing, and this same gucci tee got a little bit of a makeover! Have you seen what it is yet? I also have some super special news for you guys, so if you’ve signed up for the newsletter you’ll be the first to know! Don’t worry you still have some time so sign up right now and be the first to know my news! Trust me, it’s worth it!

I really can’t wait for the weekend and I feel like this look is the perfect way to take me there – it’s casual, it’s cool and it’s elegant! If you are wondering though what the threads on my arm are, I’ve always had those on! In India when we do a puja (it’s a prayer ceremony) we tie these threads on our wrists and we don’t take them off until they fall themselves! (You learn something new everyday!)

The Perfect Way to Wear Spring Knits Now

Fashion blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker shows how to dress for spring with an off shoulder Zara sweater and Louis Vuitton Pochette Bag

It’s that strange time of year where the weather is not quite cold, it’s not quite hot, it’s just in between (but I wouldn’t call it just right!) and it’s hard to choose that perfect outfit. This is the perfect time to throw on your favourite light knits and start to bare a bit more skin. For me, it’s all about comfort when I’m out and about but also style and this duo together has it all! I opted for this gorgeous off shoulder sweater from Zara (linked below!) It bares a bit more skin which is perfect for the coming of spring, but it’s still warm enough to keep on for the whole day! Plus, lets not forget that although pink is having a major moment, and trust me I love pink, khaki is also a colour for the year, in fact, some would even call it the new neutral (Yes, I would be a part of that group, insert girl raising hand emoji here…)

I paired this spring sweater with my new favourite joggers. These are also from Zara and I have to say they are one of the softest pairs of pants I own! The cream colour makes it easy to pair with anything without it being too stark, and the softness of it makes me want to live in them! The cut is such that it’s casual but paired with an elegant off shoulder top, it comes off as more formal and easier to rock no matter what you have planned for the day! I mean who can say no to that? I wore this look while out running errands, and of course I needed a jacket over it, but I was still super comfortable while taking photos which was a nice change from the usual teeth chattering icicle I’ve been for the past few months!

One of my favourite things to do is to mix highs and lows, and by this I mean high fashion labels with more high street affordable brands. In this case, my outfit is Zara, but I opted for some other accessories to pull it all together. You guys have been loving my Miu Miu velvet boots since I got them over the summer and trust me, I have been loving them more and more every time I wear them. (Similar and more affordable version here) Another colour that I just love is terracotta and these boots are super easy to match with anything but I especially love the colour it adds to this look. I also wanted to add a bit more life through my bag, which is one of my favourites because of it’s shape that is both formal but trendy at the same time, plus it fits all my notebooks in it so that’s always a perk for me! I finished the look with my new favourite Sunday Somewhere sunnies – the shape is so elegant and they even have a white pair which are so cool!

I think one of the ways to create a great look, is to mix highs and lows…

In other news, I didn’t do a monday update this week because I instead shared a page out of my London Fashion Week Diary with you! It was my first time attending and it really was a fabulous experience. You can read all about that here. With fashion month about halfway done now, I’ve been trying to take a little bit of a mental break and really plan out some great content for you guys for the coming months so if there is anything you really want me to cover, remember to just send me a note, I always try and reply! I do however have some super duper exciting news to share with you guys next week and I really can’t wait to tell you!

LFW Look

My outfit for LFW has to be one of my favourites so far! I had so much fun getting creative with the layering and it was such a beautiful sunny day, that I even got to wear some off shoulder! I love this Rails LA shirt because with the buttons on the back and the front, you can pretty much wear this shirt in so many different ways! I opted to wear it with one off shoulder. I layered this gorgeous off shoulder blazer that I got from India from a store called Madison on Peddar on top of it. With a pair of black jeans boots, and my favourite Gucci bag, I was ready, LFW ready!

2 PM

The afternoon kicked off with my first set of presentations. I went to the first venue which was actually showing presentations from two different designers and they really couldn’t have been more different! The first one, from Ekaterina Kukhareva had a beautiful romantic mood about it with maxi dresses with embroidered and lace details. It almost reminded me of a Midsummers Night Dream but with darker colours to suit the autumn mood. The second collection was modern and minimalistic, from Steven Tai. The collection had lots of gorgeous neutral knits, but all with a twist of their own, either deconstructed or worn in a unique way. See what I mean about the totally different moods? Which do you prefer?

3:30 PM

Had a quick stop at the Savoy for some coffee and cupcakes! It’s so easy to loose track of time and what’s going on at fashion week! Since it’s my first one, I really didn’t realise that when people say you don’t eat, you really don’t eat! Luckily I got to fuel up before we moved on!

5PM

One of my favourite presentations of the day was from Roberta Einer. Firstly, the space was gorgeous – it was like a Mediterranean winter! It had such a colourful vibe and all the little details, from the lounge beach chairs, the glasses of milk and the playing cards that the models were playing with, made me think of a really lovely British summers day! The detailing in the collection was stunning, from the pleats, the cuts and mostly the embroidered work that was featured on many pieces, such as the gorgeous bomber jacket with a fully embroidered motif back! I also couldn’t get over the gorgeous details, like the beautiful gloves (a huge trend coming next winter!) that had lovely words written on them! One of my favourite looks was also a complete tan look, where the bottom had a metallic pleat insert, as well as the gorgeous cowl back! Lovely right?

My day ended with the Paul Costeloe show at the Waldorf! It was a beautiful runway and I really enjoyed ending my first fashion week that way! I loved the colour blocking and the bright leather tights! Plus at the very end, the designer came out and even danced with the models which was really fun!

All in all, I would say my first ever official LFW was a success! I was so happy to have been a part of the day and to have been able to experience this. Of course, my goals now are to continue to attend, and to attend more shows from designers I admire! What I loved as well is that I actually managed to make some new friends during the day! I met a lovely blogger who I had been following for a while and realised we actually have so much in common. I love meeting other like minded influencers who are there to support and help. On that note, I did have an experience with a few influencers that was the complete opposite. I have heard about this kind of attitude and behaviour in the influencer industry but had never experienced it first hand. Of course, it felt horrible to be consciously excluded and the negative and almost demeaning attitude that was being cast my way was not what I thought would happen but at the same time, I really wouldn’t let something like that affect my entire day. I had such a fabulous day with some truly inspiring people and I always think it’s better to focus on the positive. On that note though, I do think that we should focus on empowering one another. As women in an industry like this one, and also in the world that we currently live in, the climate calls for encouragement because we are better together. I truly believe we should grow together!

I also have a super special fashion month related announcement coming next week so stay tuned! What did you think of LFW?

A Spring Sweater…

The spring sweater, a wardrobe must have for the in between season…

Just a few more weeks of actual sweater weather to go, and with the weather warming up, my sweaters are getting lighter and lighter. What I love most about my spring sweaters is their little details, with this gorgeous Sandro one being one of my favourites. (I’ve linked to similar ones at the bottom!) I just love the neck detailing on the sweater, with the frills really suiting the mood of spring There is something so happy about the season right? Maybe it’s cause it means my birthday is coming, or maybe I just love it when the sun shines… I think it’s both!

When a piece like this has those extra details, you don’t actually need that much – a simple sweater and pants combo does the trick, but it’s the little additions like the frill on the sweater and the obi belt on the pants that really make this outfit a great one!

Bows and frills sound very girly, but the all black and navy colour tones add that extra edgy feel to the whole look, and with a patterned black and white bag, it strikes the perfect balance! With my favourite gucci loafers (I can’t get over the furry bit! Keeps my feet nice and toasty..) I was ready to go – I managed lunch, a day out and even dinner all in this look, just showing how versatile it is!

When I do a little recap of S/S 2017, I remember noticing that the mood for spring was a bit of edgy meets a lot of feminine. Florals, and ruffles are going to be taking over this season so there seems to be no better way to ease in to the new mood with some pieces that share all those special little details.

In other news, my newsletter goes out today and I have some very exciting news to announce on there! You don’t want to miss out on this so be sure to hit subscribe at the top of the page to sign up for my big news!

Statement Sleeves to Move to Spring

Fashion blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker showcases how to style statement sleeves for now and spring 2017

Statement sleeves aren’t new to the game but they are very much here to stay this spring/summer! With the weather here in London at least (Sorry to all my readers in NYC! That snow looks caraazaay) finally starting to warm up, it’s time to start thinking about all those pieces you need for your spring wardrobe, starting with the statement sleeves of course! There is something so romantic about spring, and flared sleeves like these get that mood just right! Plus, they’re just quite fun to dance around in, as you will see through the photos below…(I swear I’m actually quite a good dancer..)

What I love most about statement sleeves like these is that they add an element of drama to your outfit without having too much going on. It’s a great way to make your whole look really stand out. Just make sure you don’t get your sleeve in any pasta.. Yes, I’ve done that and that is not the drama you’re after (ha… ha)

Style Tip: Flared oversized sleeves pair super well with a wrap skirt like this. The slit balances out the long sleeves!

I paired this sweater with one of my favourite wrap skirts. I love that it’s wool so it works really well for the season, but more than that for me it’s about that gorgeous slit! The slit balances out the oversized sleeves on my sweater, and balance is what every outfit needs!

With flared sleeves like these, you can also opt for some straight leg jeans or skinny leggings – I’ve linked to some of my favourite statement sleeve tops below so be sure to check them out so you can get the look now and for spring!

With this fairly neutral outfit, I wanted to add a pop of feminine colour through my accessories. I opted for one of my favourite bags from Dior. I love the dusty pink colour – it’s a great neutral but also adds that touch of colour I’m looking for when I have a very neutral combo on! You can tell it’s one of my favourite colours because I even have sneakers that are the same colour!

A lot of you were asking about these sneakers on Instagram! My pink sneakers are actually from Lanvin, they are an old pair but they are gold because I never ever get sick of them! I actually stumbled across these fur pom poms at Fenwick on Bond Street. They have a little clip so you can clip them on to your shoes, or if you were really getting creative you could clip them on somewhere else too! (I was thinking the loops on my jeans? Belt?)

I love that I can just take these little pom poms on and off and they are the perfect little accessory to have. I noticed that furry accessories are making a big comeback on the NYFW runway so I would get these little pom poms in lots of colours! These are from Helen Moore England and I’ve provided a link for them below! I hope you all are having a lovely Tuesday and of course Happy Valentines Day! I’m really feeling the love for all my amazing readers – you guys are so supportive! Thank you <3
