Friday Favourites #12

Thank God It’s

Happy Friday! A lot of you have been messaging me about beauty favourites and as we finally hit the warmer months, it’s time to spring clean your beauty routine! Getting your skin ready for spring and summer with a specialised spring beauty routine is something that I want to talk to you about in more depth through the coming months. For today though, let’s start with some of my favourites to getting your skin looking as bright and beautiful as possible!

If you have any product recommendations for me, please leave them non the comments below! I would also love to know if you guy want Friday Favourites to have a theme!

One of the most important parts of any routine is SPF. Whether it’s a sunny day or not, UV rays can affect your skin in so many negative ways and it’s important to protect yourself!

This cream from Perricone MD is perfect for city life because it not only is SPF 30 but creates a barrier between your skin and the harsh pollution of a city! I’ve been using it every single day and I couldn’t been happier! A cult favourite for me now!

Under eye cream is as important as any day cream in your bathroom cupboard! I’ve been using this one from Shishedo as as has my mother. We’ve both seen such a change in our under eye complexion. This cream is great for helping with fine lines, and puffiness! I’ve recommended it to a few of you now and wanted to share it with all my readers!

Your face is one thing, but don’t forget about your legs! It’s time to shed any dry and old skin and encourage cell and skin rejuvenation! A good scrub is the perfect way to get your legs looking fresh and gorgeous! I personally love this one from Aesop and have been using it for years now! It’s a must have for sure!

Every new season needs a new scent too doesn’t it? A few weeks ago I covered this beautiful Chloe perfume; Nomade. I love how it’s a mix of summer florals and citrus. It sits so beautifully on the skin and develops through the day into such a fresh scent! If you’re looking for a new perfume, I recommend this one!

Last but not least, I find that I like to swap out my body moisturiser for body oils during the summer. It’s a bit more light weight and they usually smell heavenly. My latest addition to my beauty cabinet is this Rose oil from Ouai. It’s for body and hair but I use it mainly on my body because I love how it makes my skin shine!

3 Tips To Bring The Shine Back To Your Hair

Fashion and beauty blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker shares her haircare secrets on how to get shiny hair with these three hair remedies and hair tricks featuring Gisou, Function of Beauty and Ouai

Shiny Hair Is Three Steps Away…

If you watched my first ever Q&A and get ready with me, you would have seen that the number one question was about my haircare routine. A lot of you want to know the secret to shiny, thick and voluminous hair and it’s also a topic I want to be covering more here on The Silk Sneaker. Today, I specifically wanted to give you guys hair tips on how to get shiny hair. There are three tricks I’ve learnt over the years for bringing the shine back to your hair that I think will make a real difference to your haircare routine!

1.End With A Cold Water Rinse

Washing your hair with water that is too warm can damage your hair or make it flat and lifeless. A great way to bring that extra dose of shine to your locks is to make sure that your last rinse in the shower is with cold water. Although it always makes me shiver, it’s worth the shine. This is actually a hair trick I learnt growing up back in India!

2. Lock In That Moisture

I always find that my hair loses its shine when there isn’t enough moisture. Conditioner sometimes can only do so much, and your hair needs that something extra. All my life I’ve oiled my hair back in India but since I moved to London I didn’t have as much time for my usual routine. Instead, I found two products that really helped take my shine that extra mile. I use the Gisou Hair Oil on the ends of my hair, especially when it’s wet. This is because the oil helps lock in the moisture of your wet hair. For that extra special treat, I use the Gisou honey hair mask (generously!). It’s the perfect way to add volume and bounce back to your shiny hair! Also a great hair mask for damaged hair.

3. Use The Right Shampoo for Clean Hair

If there’s anything my mother taught me, it’s that clean hair equals shiny, healthy hair. You have to keep your hair clean, which means using the right shampoo to do so. I had written a post about some of my favourite shampoos a while ago, but I would add two heroes to that list. Firstly, the Ouai Clean shampoo is great if you have a dry scalp and thick hair like me. It really helps clean your hair and make it shiny. If you’re really serious about your haircare though, I would recommend Function of Beauty. They create a completely customised blend of shampoo and conditioner specifically for your hair and hair goals; that’s how you take care of your locks and get the shiny hair you’ve dreamed of!

Why Your Makeup Is Giving You Acne and How To Fix It

Fashion and Beauty blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker shares why your makeup is giving you acne and how to fix it

Get Rid Of That Acne…

It’s no secret that I have very acne prone skin, which means I’ve struggled with breakouts and sensitive skin my whole life. For a long time I thought it was just the makeup I was using, and to some extent it was. Certain makeup just works better for sensitive skin than others (I did a whole post about the best foundations for acne prone skin here), but there are a few more things you can do to get rid of acne. Today I’m sharing three beauty and makeup tips to help remedy your breakouts! Once I started to implement these three changes in my beauty routine, I started to see a change! Of course, this came with also making sure I was intaking the right amount of water every day, having my vitamins and eating well. Even so, what you’re putting on the outside of your face is as important as what you’re ingesting! So, here are three things to start doing now to start getting rid of your pimples!

Check The Expiry Date

It wasn’t until quite recently that I learnt that makeup has an expiry date. If you’re wondering when makeup expires, there’s actually a super easy way to figure out. Just like food products, your makeup will have an expiry date on the packaging. What you’re looking for is the symbol I’ve shown in the photograph here, which will have a number followed by “M”. This means that your makeup will last you for that many months! For example, this lipstick of mine will expire in 18 months.  Be sure you aren’t using expired makeup on your face because it can cause some bad reactions if you have sensitive skin like me! Make sure you’re keeping track of this and replacing your favourites as and when you need to!

Clean Your Face Before Bed

I know this seems like an obvious one but I know so many girls who skip over this step! Regardless of whether you’ve put on makeup that day or not you need to cleanse and wash your face before you go to bed! This is to remove any dirt, grime, sweat or anything else that may be on your skin after your day! This is so essential to making sure that your skin stays moisturised and clean without blocking pores and causing breakouts! If you’re looking for a good cleanser, I have a few recommendations below!

Clean Your Brushes!

This is another one that we underestimate! Our makeup brushes are much dirtier than we think. Not only are they lying open catching dust, but they have old makeup on them as well. If you blow your makeup off your brush before applying or dust it off, there’s even a higher chance that your makeup brush needs to be cleaned! Now think about how much dirt you’re putting on your face every time you use that brush! I would try cleaning my brush once a week! This goes for your beauty blender too, which of course comes with its own cleanser! If you’re wondering how to clean your makeup brush, I would soak and wash them in baby shampoo and then leave them out to dry. Make sure that you reshape them while they are damp so they dry in shape! I also have a fabulous brush cleanser that is a foam. You use this on your brushes and it dries almost immediately! I’ve featured anything you might need for a clean brush below!

So, three simple makeup tips to make sure that your makeup stops giving you acne! Will you be trying any of them?

3 Ways To Use Lipstick That You Haven’t Thought of Yet…

Your Most Versatile Makeup Tool; Lipstick

One of the things I love about makeup is how versatile and multipurpose it is. Just because something is made for a specific part of your face, doesn’t mean you can’t use it in a hundred other ways. Take your favourite lipstick for example. Did you know that there are tons of other ways to get the most out of your all-time favourite shade? Today I’m here to brighten up your winter makeup routine and show you how to inject a little bit more colour and fun into your everyday beauty routine. These are my three favourite ways to use lipstick and three ways that you haven’t thought of yet! Trust me, you’ll be walking into spring looking brighter and feeling better once you have these hacks under your beauty belt!

As A Colour Corrector

Dark circles are something that every girl has and struggles with. You can cover them up with your concealer but most of the time it’s not a clean slate that you end up with, but layers and layers of concealer. What you need is your favourite red/orange lipstick. Our dark circles have a blue undertone. To combat this, you need to correct the colour on your skin by using an opposite colour; red/orange. If you have a fair complexion, I would suggest red. If you are closer to my complexion, go for more of an orange. I use the Chanel Rouge Allure in shade 96. Apply the lipstick on your dark circles using a lip brush. Then dap your concealer on top and blend. You’ll end up with an orange colour correction. You can then apply more concealer on top to blend or foundation! The finished product? Perfectly bright eyes and skin!

Dior Star Foundation: Honey Beige

As Eyeshadow

A beauty trend for 2018 is matching your eyes and your lips. The runway has been full of pink eyelids to match glossy pink lips. An easy way to get that look is with the Dior Lip Glow. Just apply directly on your eyelids and then on your lips. If you’re looking for something a bit smokier and bolder though, try this. Apply your lipstick of choice on your eyelids and dab so that it starts to blend in. Then, with your fingers or your flat eyeshadow brush, apply your eyeshadow of choice on top and start to blend! What you get is a very smokey and gorgeous colour that has the same tint to your lips! Perfect for girls night out!

Nars Lipstick: Toléde
Charlotte Tilbury Eyeshadow: The Dolce Vita

As A Blush

A lot of the times I use my lipstick as a blush because the pigment is much stronger and there are so many more fun shades to choose from! Something I love to do in winter and spring is to mix my lipstick with a few drops of my favourite liquid highlighter. The result is a blush with some shimmer! This also lightens the lipstick colour making it more wearable for your cheeks! The perfect way to add some shine and colour to your face! Plus, it stays on much longer than any powder blush!

The Best Foundation For Sensitive Acne-Prone Skin

Fashion blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker shares the best foundation for acne prone sensitive skin

If You Get Acne, You Are Not Alone…

I have incredibly sensitive, acne-prone skin. It’s something I’ve suffered from for a majority of my teenage years and although I’ve found that my skin has gotten a lot better with certain changes, It’s still an issue I battle. One of the biggest changes in my skin came when I changed my make up. Not all makeup, or foundations, are good for sensitive, acne-prone skin. In fact, some of them inflame this kind of skin type further! That is why over the years I’ve had the chance to try and test the very best and the very worst foundations for acne prone skin and today I wanted to share my three favourites with you.

In addition to the three that I have highlighted below, I’m going to be trying out the new Giorgio Armani foundation over the next month as I’ve heard wonderful things about it, especially from people who have a similar skin type to mine. I’ll be sure to keep you posted on my findings! I do know for sure though that the three foundations I have highlighted below, worked the best for my very sensitive skin and I was able to see a difference in my complexion pretty quickly. Scroll down to find out my favourite foundations!

Dior Star Foundation

For special occasions, nights out, or just on a wonderful sunny day, I always prefer a slightly dewy finish. By dewy, I do not mean oily, but rather more of a glow. This Dior foundation does exactly that while being kind to the skin. It’s the best way to achieve that natural glow you’re after. In terms of coverage, I find that this covers most of my pigments and scars and has a strong coverage. It creates a flawless finish that makes me feel so confident without the fear of a break out!

Perricone MD No Foundation Foundation

This is my everyday choice. The Perricone MD No Foundation Foundation comes from one of the oldest apothecaries in the world. The original formula comes in only two shades, If that sounds scary to you, it’s actually not! The foundation works with the natural colour of your skin and blends in seamlessly. It’s also a formula that works on your skin while you wear it, improving your complexion and your appearance. This is what I usually have on in my Instagram photos, and has quickly become one of the products I can’t do without. It’s a buildable foundation but if you’re looking for stronger coverage, use it with the No concealer concealer from Perricone!

Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue

When I first moved to London, this was the first foundation I discovered that actually worked well with my skin. It worked so well that one of my best friends started to use it as well! To be fair, it’s more of a tinted moisturiser than a foundation but I find that it still does the trick! It provides a dewy finish and although it does not offer full coverage, it is buildable so you can continue to apply it on concern spots until you feel it’s fully covered! I loved that when I did that, it never looked cakey! I wear shade Tan 07

My 3 Must Have Beauty Recommendations of The Month

New Beauty Products That You Won’t Be Able To Live Without…

It takes at least a month for you to see a difference with any beauty product. That’s why I’m here to do any trial and error for you and showcase the best of the best each month. This month, I was all about finding my glow to kickstart 2018 with some shine and sparkle. Whether that meant an everyday shine with an upgrade to my daily lotion, soft and supple skin or a show-stopping new lipstick, I was covered in every base to make every day a good one. After much searching, trying, and experimenting, I bring you this month’s, beauty must-haves so that you can find your glow too!

Dior Nude Air Luminizer

Surprise surprise, I have a Dior makeup recommendation! (Cmon Dior, can you hear me? I love you guys!) . No joke, this has quickly become one of my favourite beauty products. The concept is simple. Add a few drops to your foundation for an instant natural-looking glow. I don’t like to wear foundation every day, so instead, I add a single drop to my daily moisturiser. The results have been instant and I couldn’t be happier! This gives my face a subtle shine and makes my appearance so much healthier! I highly recommend for daily use, or to mix with your foundation for a night out! (Then I would use two drops instead of one!) I use Shade 003.

Jo Malone Exfoliating Shower Gel

One of my least favourite things about winter is dry skin. If I miss a single day of moisturising, my skin becomes dull and dry. When you’re rushing to get to that morning meeting though, there just isn’t that extra minute for the lotion. Instead, I’ve found the perfect two in one solution to all our morning moisture worries! This body wash from Jo Malone is a scrub as well as a soap. It leaves my skin soft and fresh and ready for the day! I use the Geranium and Walnut scented one! I find that the smell really puts me in a good mood in the morning too!

Nars Het Loo Lip Pencil

When I’m buying lipsticks, I always look for colours that stay on all day. I hate when you’ve just applied your lipstick and after that first sip of coffee/wine, it’s all gone! Nothing more annoying right? That is exactly why Nars is a company that I always go back to for lip products. Their pigments are strong and stay on all day, no matter how many sips you’re taking! My current favourite winter shade is called Het Loo. It’s a mix between a brown and a red and is perfect for literally any occasion! It comes in a pencil, but has the consistency of a lipstick! I highly recommend this, it’s such a universally flattering shade as well! Plus, look at how worn my pencil is! That’s how much I’ve been using it!

The Best 3 Beauty Products I’ve Found and Finished This Month

Fashion and beauty blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker shares her favourite new makeup and haircare beauty products of the month

New Beauty Products I’ve Tried & Already Finished…

One of the things I love to test are new beauty products, especially make up and for my hair. I realised over the past few months I haven’t been sharing my new finds with you guys in an in-depth way and I want to start highlighting the products that have quickly become a part of my daily routine. These are the products that I’ve found, loved and finished all in a matter of a month or two. Trying new products can be scary but before I even open the bottle, I’ve checked the ingredients to make sure there is nothing harmful to my skin or hair in there. Since I hold all the products I use to an incredibly high standard, I hope that you can trust me when I say these are great!

This month, there are three products that really stood out to me. One is about to change the way you do your make up on a regular basis. The second is going to replace your favourite bronzer and maybe even blush and the last one is about to give you the voluminous hair you’ve always dreamed of having. Are you ready?

Just a quick side note – I shot these photos completely by myself! The set up was hilarious. An ironing board and coffee table books were my tripods – would you have been able to tell?

Fashion and beauty blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker shares her favourite new makeup and haircare beauty products of the month

Perricone MD Instant Blur

It’s no secret that I am a huge fan of Perricone MD and their No Makeup Makeup range. I love that the products are kind to your skin and come from a trusted name. Their latest revolution is no different. The Perricone MD Blur Finish compact has literally changed the way I get ready in the morning. This product is literally as though you blurred your skin of all blemishes. It allows you to create the perfect base for any makeup while keeping your makeup set for the day. You can also just wear it on its own. A great thing to note about Perricone is that each product is able to adapt and suit everyone’s skin so, on application watch how the product sets and changes on your skin!

Guerlain Terracotta

If you remember from my very first vlog, I went to try a bronzer from Guerlain. The Guerlain Terracotta was introduced to me by one of my best friends. She is even fussier with her makeup than I am and will literally only use something if she is guaranteed no breakout. She swears by this bronzer and even uses it as a blush sometimes. Her opinion means so much to me that I had to try it out for myself and I have never looked back. I bought a lighter shade so that I could use it as a blush on a regular basis, or as a very light contouring powder. Either way, it’s beautiful! I’m ready for my next compact!

Grow Gorgeous Volumising Shampoo

My hair is so important to me. I have always cherished my locks and that’s why I know they deserve lots of care. I have naturally voluminous hair but sometimes my shampoo and conditioner will flatten my hair and I land up with a strange, triangular shaped hairstyle. Really not flattering. Recently I was introduced to this amazing shampoo from Grow Gorgeous that focuses on giving your hair the volume it needs. When I tried the shampoo and went out to meet some friends, they all commented on how much more volume my hair had! It’s a must try for sure. Another product I’ve emptied pretty quickly! Did I mention it’s only £15 pounds?
