Monday Brief #3

Hello, Hello!

It’s a rather rainy Monday for this weeks Monday brief. (Ive already been caught in the rain once today and I really would not like for that to happen again!) Having been back in London for a week now, I’m finally feeling like I’m getting back on top of all the things I’ve had to do! It’s been a bit manic but here we are, a new week and a new set of to-do’s! Scroll down for an update on what’s happened, and what’s going to be happening!

This Past Week

Last week I landed back into London after my amazing trip to Mumbai. I had such an amazing time there and I got to share all my favourite Mumbai outfits with you here and here, and I also got to show you all my favourite spots here! Although the heat and sunshine there was amazing, it’s so nice to be back in London and to get back into work properly! I had the pleasure of attending a special talk with Lucy Choi, where her inspirational words reminded me to keep going no matter what! As the weather continued to get colder (and rainier…) I decided to have the perfect night in, and shared the only essentials you need to make sure you have the best night in as well as the most stylish! Read all about it here.

New In this week – all the things I cannot wait to try and use, starting with these pointed toe flats. I was always a bit hesitant about pointed toe flats but I find that they make me look taller and I just love how classic they are, epsecially with the adorable bow! I also have a brand new perfume – if you like a flowery scent then you will love this scent via Diptyque. It smells like jasmine and roses and I can’t get enough of it! I also have an obsession with my new jumpsuit from the Reformation x Net a Porter collection. It fits like a glove and is so classic, it extends far beyond just one season!

Night In: The Perfect Essentials When It’s Too Cold to Step Out

Fashion blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker showcases how to have the perfect night in featuring Shivan and Narresh pyjamas

What makes the perfect night-in?

Let’s be real shall we? It’s -1 degrees outside, it’s snowing and it’s hailing and it’s raining and it’s pouring… so why in the world would I have a night out when I can have the perfect night in? This weekend I have every intention of having my nearest and dearest with me to have the cosiest night in! When the team over at Leesa mattresses asked me to share with them what my favourite night in essentials were, I thought I might as well share it with you guys too!

The perfect night in is easy to achieve if you follow three very simple rules. In fact, a night in is necessary I think to really refresh your mind, install creativity and energy, allowing you to tackle the new week better than the last! I am the biggest workaholic around so I find that unwinding every weekend, is just what I need! So my top three tips to have that much needed night in are as follows:

#1 Get Comfortable & Put Work Away!

I know how hard it can be to stop working, especially when you do what I do! Trust me though, taking a break from work for a night and slipping in to your favourite pyjamas will really help get you started and relaxed!

#2 Do What You Love

Is there a movie you’ve been dying to watch? Have you been having a craving for your favourite chocolate? Well indulge! A night in is all about making you happy, so grab that dark chocolate and sea salt bar and put on that favourite movie! Mine is always Princess Diaries (I mean, I could totally do with a long lost grandmother telling me I am the next princess of Genovia..)

#3 Surround yourself with Cozy Things

Yes it is all about the snuggles! (Oh God.. Overtime I say the word snuggles, I see the mom from The Goldbergs… that show cracks me up..) What really makes a cozy atmosphere is a great scented candle, and a really warm blanket. I mean, being warm is the best part about staying in!

A Touch of Parisian Indian with Rahul Mishra

Fashion blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker styles Rahul Mishra Spring Summer 2017 collection

Today, I’m bringing you three different looks, all with one key piece from Indian designer Rahul Mishra…

If you are unfamiliar with Rahul Mishra, he is one of India’s gems. With a strong focus on craftsmanship and textiles, he focuses on creating “fashion that is relevant”. Drawing on the strong culture and skills of the Indian textile community, Rahul Mishra has created collection after collection

that has captured the hearts of a global audience and he is now a regular at Paris Fashion Week. So when I got the opportunity to style some of his key pieces from his S/S 2017 collection, I couldn’t wait to take these runway pieces to the street, The Silk Sneaker way!

Three looks, three very different vibes…

Although the pink skirt looks like an intimidating piece to style, I think I had the most fun with it. The oversized shirt allows for the peplum hem to really stand out, plus who can resist that colour?

The bralette was one of the most versatile pieces of the collection. I loved the idea of layering the piece over a plain white shirt and jeans to just elevate an everyday look, which makes it perfect for spring (How many more days till that again?) What I love the most is that it’s a great layering piece even for the winter (over a turtleneck?) and in the summer on its own! The gingham pattern is also gorgeous right?

The gorgeous yellow top is so voluminous and makes me wish that the sun would just come out now already! Underneath a blazer for spring, or with a skirt like the one I’m wearing, you’ve got a killer look! The cut of the whole piece is incredibly flattering as well.

What’s your favourite piece?

Look 2: Bralette: Rahul Mishra, Shirt: Uniqlo, Jeans: Topshop

Creating the Perfect Wardrobe for 2017: January

januarywishlistcover

January

must-haves

What is the “capsule wardrobe” ? Needless to say, it is a bit of an enigma. What I seem unable to grasp most about this concept, is the “one size, fits all” approach. How can that be so? How can we create a capsule wardrobe that works for everyone when we all have our own sense of fashion and style? What is fashion if it is not a way to express ourselves? Granted, the white tee shirt and the black pants are always a must-have (Yes, no matter who you are, you have to own certain things…) but what about the rest of it? In the spirit of #NewYearNewYou, I’m calling for a new capsule wardrobe, one that has all the basics – your striped breton sweater, your perfect LBD and LBW – but one that also incorporates all those other pieces

The ones that are classics with a twist, the ones that tug at your heart strings because you know you’ll wear them forever and ever. It’s about that piece that will be your classic. I’m kicking off 2017 wishing for all these beautiful pieces for my perfect capsule wardrobe of the year. If none of these tickle your fashion fancy, then scroll down for a little surprise! Farfetch has created a widget just for you, which creates a personalised capsule wardrobe based completely on your style. All you have to do is answer a few quick questions and Voila! Let’s make 2017 your most stylish year yet!

2017, Here We Come

Looking

forward to

2017

This year more than ever, we have been more than excited to welcome in 2017.A fresh slate to start again, to re evaluate goals and dreams, to figure out what we want to achieve over the next 365 (or rather 363) days. Over the past year I have learnt so many lessons on both a professional and personal front. Although I may not always share my personal journeys, 2016 has been a year where I have discovered a lot about myself and have gone through a series of both highs and lows. Having made the decision to become a full time blogger in July, I’ve learnt the importance of being able to manage my time, of being able to think ahead and most of all, not being afraid to be myself, to share and to express what I feel is important and interesting. Although the journey so far has not always been the easiest, it has been rewarding and I know that this is just the start. With a fresh mind and a look to the future, I have no resolutions for 2017, but rather just a new set of goals to achieve and conquer.

further goals 2017

“I can and I will. Watch me”

– Carrie Green

The overwhelming response to my new website a few months ago sent me over the moon, but now it’s all about creating content that is relevant but also beautiful, for you. I want to focus more on producing amazing quality, and a quantity that satisfies my community. With more inventive and innovative content, I want to explore video, as well as grow the TSS community through my weekly newsletter. If you haven’t already signed up for it, I would sign up right here! I am hoping to share content on there that you won’t find anywhere else!

Time management is something that has also become a challenge for me – while consulting for brands, as well as running a full time fashion blog, I hope to schedule, and manage my hours in a more productive way, to make sure every moment counts for me and for you!

For both TSS, and for me, I hope that this coming year is a year of growth and expansion.

Don’t worry, I’m just like you with the rest of my “resolutions”, the usual “I want to cook healthier”, “I want to stick to my work out regime”, “I want to get enough sleep every night” etc etc. These are all habits I hope to continue in the new year, but moreover let’s focus on conquering and I can’t wait to share this year of adventures with you! On that note though, I want to hear from you! What do you want to read about? What would you like me to cover more? Share in the comments and I’ll be sure to respond!

Mumbai Outfits: A Round Up So Far

As you all know, I’m currently in Mumbai where the sun is shining and the weather is always warm. I haven’t had a chance to shoot any looks for you yet (the key word being yet – I have some awesome things coming!) but I’ve been getting so many amazing responses from you guys about my outfits on Instagram (and questions too!) that I’ve done a round up here of my outfits from the last week!

Fashion blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker showcases all her street style looks from Mumbai featuring this Topshop ruffled shirt

Look #1

For my first day back I just wanted to be comfortable and relaxed. I went for this ruffled shirt from Topshop – the ruffles added so much volume to such a simple look! I paired the shirt with some denim shorts and a pop of colour through my shoes and bag!

Shirt: Topshop

Shorts: Rag & Bone

Shoes: Claudie Pierlot (super similar ones here and similar ones here too!)

Bag: Hermes

Fashion blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker showcases her favourite Mumbai Street style looks including Paige jeans and a Louis Vuitton bag

Look #2

For this look I wanted to keep things as simple as possible because I knew I was running errands for most of the day (and my dentist appointment! ) I also decided to rummage through my closet here and I found this super old jacket that I decided to style for a casual day look! I also opted for my Kapten & Son watch, which is really simple and sleek and a bit more casual for errands than my Cartier! Everyone needs a watch like that!

Jacket: Topshop – a similar one here and another great blazer here in a similar colour but with a cool pattern

Jeans: Paige

Belt: Claudie Pierlot (you guys loved this!)

Shoes: Charlotte Olympia

Bag: Louis Vuitton

Look #3

This has been my favourite look so far! I put my hair up in a sort of retro do just for a chance which I loved – something I want to do when the weather is warmer in London! I also love this dress – I tend to opt for a lot of dresses during the warm weather because they are easy to wear and look great!

Sunglasses: Sunday Somewhere

Scarf: Hermes

Dress: Maje – a similar styled dress here, a beautiful lace version here, and a lovely patterned one here.

Shoes: Casadei

For a casual lunch out with my mum I went for these gorgeous pleated pants – they were so breezy and easy to wear! I paired them with this maje summer top and my favourite mules! You guys loved these satin No 21 mules – satin shoes are really in style for 2017 so I would grab your pair ASAP. They also have flat versions!

Fashion blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker showcases Veda Raheja Dress

Look #5

Another easy dress that looks amazing is this Veda Raheja piece. I know the length is longer than what I usually wear but I love how elegant it looks. Plus the cut at the bottom is so chic! Paired again with my favourite heels, I was ready for a day out!

Look #6

This was taken today when I went to meet my super talented friend Suhani from Misho Designs. I loved the colour of this dress – it just did all the talking for me! I also had my hair braided and I put it up in a braided bun ! It was a super easy look to create and just immediately made the whole ensemble chicer!

Sunglasses: Sunday Somewhere

Dress: Zara – this one is literally almost the same as the one I have on, this one is a longer version of it, and this one is a similar colour!

Shoes: Claudie Pierlot (super similar ones here and similar ones here too!)

I love being able to share all these looks with you! If there are any details about the outfit that you want that I haven’t included, just leave it in the comments and I’ll be happy to help!

Carry On Bag Essentials

Fashion blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker shares her carry on packing essentials and how to pack for a long haul flight

The Art of the Carry On…

Firstly, Hello from very sunny and humid Mumbai, India! It’s so nice to feel the sunshine on my face all day, but packing for this trip was such a long process. Packing a carry on bag is not as easy as one might think. If you are under the impression that you can just dump your laptop and a book to read and be ready to go, then let me tell you, that is a misconception. As an avid traveller (and someone who has had the chance to make many a carry on mistake, only to realise once I was settled in my seat… oh the frustration) It’s taken me a good amount of time to pull together all my travel woes and high points to create the best carry on packing list you will find out there. So if you’re jetting off for Christmas, no matter how near or far, or just like to be prepared for whatever holiday you have planned next (Is it summer yet? Not that I can complain since I literally just flew in to India) then you’ve come to the right place. Here are your ultimate carry on essentials:

Fashion blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker shares her carry on packing essentials and how to pack for a long haul flight

Laptop: Macbook , Laptop Case: Uprose, Book: The Million Dollar Blog by Natasha Courtenay Smith, Passport Case: Mon Purse (It’s totally customisable!), Travel Wallet/Pouch: Aspinal of London, Headphones: I Am+ Buttons, Stroller Bag: Rimowa, Luggage Tag: Smythson, Phone: Apple Iphone 7 , Socks: Happy Socks, Camera: Fujifilm, Sleep Mask: Slip, In-Flight Travel Pouch: Anya Hindmarch, Hoodie: Wildfox, Pen: Mont Blanc, Journal: Smythson
