Buckles and Bows

When I looked out the window today I saw that the sun was shining and I suddenly realised, Spring is around the corner isn’t it? Which means that as much as I am beyond excited for the cherry blossoms outside my home to bloom, to get all my summer dresses and spring jackets out, and to of course celebrate my birthday (Clearly the most important day of the year… Duuhhh!) I also just want to take a moment to enjoy wearing all my favourite winter things – like fishnet stockings, adorable sweaters and boots. Nothing quite says London winter like all black and buckling down with a pop of colour and a sweater skirt combo with adorable details.

It’s all about the buckle details in this outfit…

When I found this sweater I was immediately obsessed with the gorgeous little buckle detail. Shortly after I stumbled across this skirt with similar buckle details on the side. I couldn’t resist the combo. It was like a match made in heaven, wouldn’t you agree? It comes as no surprise to all of you I’m sure that I opted for an all black look, there is nothing quite as chic and classic but I can never resist a pop of colour like this one from one of my favourite bags everrrrr.

Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about my style and the evolution that it’s taken in the last year. I’m a big fan of anything with a little bit of personality, and I always find that little details count in making an outfit a little more you, but also eternally stylish. For me it came in the form of this outfit with all the adorable buckles and tie up details. What I love most about this combo is that it’s so wearable for everyday – no matter what you’re doing, meetings, lunches, drinks or dinner, this outfit will take you far!

All black with a touch of colour is always timelessly chic…

Although some claim that an all black look is anything but exciting, I disagree completely. Take this one for example, with little details and a mix of textures with the fishnet stockings and the leather boots, the outfit has a whole new sense of style to it. Black is also a great colour to add a pop of colour with, something like orange or blue stand out so beautifully and is sure to get you noticed in the best way!

With this all in mind, I’ve been working hard on updating my Shop section (see above in the menu bar!) so that I can constantly bring you guys all my favourite pieces that are exactly what you need in your closet, no matter the season, trend or time! Have you checked out the shop section yet? I’m sure you’re going to love it! It’s full of pieces that have the perfect little details and help you really speak through your style!

How to Mix Winter Textures and Patterns

Textures & Patterns, Patterns & Textures

Although it may seem incredibly intimidating, mixing textures and patterns is much easier than we think. We admire street style stars and runway shows for their effortless ability to do this and look presentable, no, stylish and we wonder, could I be a texture and print mixologist? Of course you can! I’m a massive fan of mixing textures because I feel like it’s such an easy way to add life and interest to an everyday outfit. This time I tried to throw in some pattern as well to really create a unique look that’s still easy to wear! There are some simple tips to keep in mind when you’re doing this.

Tip 1: Be Mindful of your Colour Choice

Colours are as important as the patterns you choose to put together. I tend to opt for neutrals or blues when mixing pattern and texture. You don’t want your colour choice to be too bold, otherwise it can look like too much! I went for a neutral white and a blue and white striped skirt with black accessories – very understated colours but bold patterns and textures!

Tip 2: Texture and Pattern go together

Patterns and textures together are an easy way to ease yourself into mixing prints. Textures are usually a bit more subtle than a pattern, so if you pick a bold texture like cable knit, you can opt for a bold pattern like stripes too! Some of my other favourites would be mixing winter velvet and plaid – a perfect winter combination!

I am also in love with this sweater I saw at & Other stories and it’s been popping up all over my Instagram feed as well – the cross over knit pattern is another great one to pair with some bold stripes, or even with florals as a way to ease into spring! I’ve linked directly to it below! On that note, I find that mixing patterns and textures is a great way to ease yourself from your winter wardrobe into your spring one! Try it!

Tip 3: Have Fun With It!

Do you know what speaks louder than anything? Confidence! Don’t be afraid to have fun with what you’re wearing and be confident in your choice! When you wear something with confidence it really shows so although it may be a step outside your comfort zone, just go with it and you’ll rock it!

Fashions New Favourite Material

Vinyl is not as intimidating as you might think…

Vinyl is one of those fabrics that you really didn’t want present in your wardrobe. It squeaks when you move, it’s incredibly shiny and when you put it on you wonder, how in the world am I supposed to pull this off without looking like a number of innapropiate things? Well fashion’s love hate relationship with vinyl is about to take a turn for the better, and this new material is taking our wardrobe’s world by storm. If you haven’t noticed it already, vinyl has been popping up all over the blogosphere and is set to be your new favourite material for 2017. If you feel as though it’s hard to style, I’m hoping my latest look is here to inspire you otherwise. Vinyl is not as intimidating as one might believe…

I found this skirt at Topshop and couldn’t resist. Although I picked it up a while ago, there are some amazing options out there that are similar like this one and this one. The key to vinyl is to make sure that you pair it with neutrals. A black vinyl skirt is paired best with some white. If the weather had permitted I would have ideally liked to have styled it with my new Gucci tee, but although the sun is shining, the temperature continues to drop. I opted for this striped sweater from Reiss. I love that the stripes are actually furry! (faux!) Adding some extra texture in a neutral colour like white is a great way to rock vinyl and get a bit more experimental with your look as well! See not so hard is it?

My week has begun with quite a hectic start – I’ve ben loving that I share a bit more about what’s going on with me through these outfit posts, what do you guys think? I’ve been having a lot of family time this week and I’m so thankful for that – I always find that time with my family really recharges me when I’m feeling a bit tired and low!

To add a bit more TSS to my look, I decided to add some graphic tights to my outfit. Again, these tights are in neutrals which is why I am able to mix all the patterns together with the vinyl and still have it look put together! Would you wear graphic tights?

Now you are all ready and set to get some vinyl in your closet! How will you be styling it?

My Favourite Coat to Combat the Cold

When it’s this cold, don’t leave your coat at home…

Fashion Blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker shows how to style a teddy bear coat for the winter

So I’ve been stuck in my bed fighting off a horrible cold (Gasp! I had to skip spin… it upset me very much to miss the Craig David themed right…) but I wanted to share this outfit that I photographed a little while ago. I don’t need to tell you how cold it is… you know how cold it is. Rather, you can feel how cold it is whenever you step outside the house and you wonder to yourself… how many more sleeps till we wake up and the sun is shining and it’s spring already? Even the cherry blossoms outside my house are impatient….

But, even in the bitter cold there is something sweet – there is no other time that we can pull out all our super cozy coats and feel as snuggly as we would right now. Take this fabulous coat for example from Topshop. It’s like a giant white teddy bear constantly hugging me to keep me sheltered from the bitter bitter wind of London. I mean what more could you ask for? It even looks fabulous! Don’t you agree?

The creamy white colour of the coat makes it feel even more chic. I paired it with my favourite black and white pieces of the moment. If you were reading yesterday, you would have seen that plaid is a pattern that is here to stay (It’s all over the resort scene – you can read more about that and how to incorporate those trends for 2017 now right here!) This skirt is the right pattern as well as the right fit to match the coat perfectly!

I paired the skirt with another favourite of the moment – a high neck black sweater with sheer sleeves (Scroll down to see more details!) The sleeves are not only mesh, but also polka dotted! (Another resort trend down!) The whole fit of it comes together so well and I love that there are so many little details! I completed the outfit with a vintage suede Fendi bag found in the back of my mums closet (Thanks mom!!)

In other news I’m considering doing something new to my hair. I love how short it is now and I love curling it because it’s such a great change from my usual straight slick hair – but do you guys have any other ideas for something I could try? A new cut? Please feel free to share!

Although this coat is one that I bought ages ago, It’s still one that I can’t stop wearing! It’s kept me cozy and happy in the worst of weather and the best part is, it’s from Topshop! I’ve found some similar ones for you guys here and on sale from ASOS and here from Revolve for under £120 so you can get the look and feel it too!

Khaki & Textured Layers

Khaki is your new neutral this year…

As many of you know, I have been away on holiday in Mumbai and recently arrived back to London. Although it’s been cold, it’s been rainy, it’s been dark.. it’s been great to be back! I’m currently fighting off the sniffles and working while laying on my couch with the softest blanket in the history of blankets (No lie.. I don’t joke about softness..) but I am still super excited to bring you this look. Trust me on this one, Khaki is your new favourite neutral.

I have always had a soft spot for the colour… there was something about it that I loved when my mum wore her khaki trousers when I was younger, and there was something about it when I grabbed this amazing pair of trousers from Topshop. The colour literally goes with everything, and there is no denying that the fit of these trousers makes it even better. These are the pants (or super similar ones right here) to rock in 2017, with any colour you want! For the winter months, it goes perfectly with black grey and even animal print (Yes your leopard print will work too!) but for the summer and the spring, try it with orange or baby pink – some of my favourite colour combos!

Layering was not something I was doing much of in Mumbai, considering the weather there was rarely below 25 degrees C (Yes… the joy of having summer all year round there!) but it was something I was more than excited to delve back into upon my return, especially since there is really no other way to tackle the bitter cold of Jan/Feb in London. If you’ve been reading this blog for a while you’ll know I have a love for textures, and especially the combinations you can create to really add a touch of draammaaa to your outfit.

With that same spirit, it felt right to mix and match these two textured black sweaters. One, a high ruffle neck sleeveless sweater with a knit texture, and the other, a button down round neck sweater with a more detailed texture – of course they go together perfectly. The key is to not be afraid to experiment, you never know what you’re going to end up with!

The coat has such a gorgeous fit – it isn’t too long, it isn’t too fit, it’s just right and it’s even reversible so it keeps me warm in more than one colour! I actually got this coat quite recently but this is the first time I’m wearing it! What do you guys think?

that has captured the hearts of a global audience and he is now a regular at Paris Fashion Week. So when I got the opportunity to style some of his key pieces from his S/S 2017 collection, I couldn’t wait to take these runway pieces to the street, The Silk Sneaker way!

Three looks, three very different vibes…

Although the pink skirt looks like an intimidating piece to style, I think I had the most fun with it. The oversized shirt allows for the peplum hem to really stand out, plus who can resist that colour?

The bralette was one of the most versatile pieces of the collection. I loved the idea of layering the piece over a plain white shirt and jeans to just elevate an everyday look, which makes it perfect for spring (How many more days till that again?) What I love the most is that it’s a great layering piece even for the winter (over a turtleneck?) and in the summer on its own! The gingham pattern is also gorgeous right?

The gorgeous yellow top is so voluminous and makes me wish that the sun would just come out now already! Underneath a blazer for spring, or with a skirt like the one I’m wearing, you’ve got a killer look! The cut of the whole piece is incredibly flattering as well.

What’s your favourite piece?

How I Wear Metallic in the Day

Let yourself have your metallic moment in the sun…Literally.

I guess metallic is having a bit of a moment here on TSS. With my guide to all things glitter and the best ways to wear this never dying trend (I mean.. it’s kind of a given that every year, a winter trend is going to be sequins or metallic right?) I couldn’t help but also sharing how I style metallic in the day. Our usual instinct when we see something shiny is to hang it up with our party dresses and tuxedo jackets because where else would you wear it…right? *hit the buzzer* Wrong! Metallic in the day is as wearable as your favourite sweater, especially when you layer it with some other pieces and tone it down with some day time accessories. If you mix it up with some neutral colours like black or white, you’ll stand out just the perfect amount.

I loved that this Topshop metallic knit was sleeveless, which makes it super easy to layer over another sweater to make it casual for the day! Plus, I love the double turtleneck – not only does it keep me warm, but it also looks pretty cool!

This top is also a great one to take from day to night – I actually wore this exact same outfit, minus the white turtleneck, for a friends birthday party at night and it was a total hit! I love when an outfit can really carry you from day to night and sometimes, simple really is best!

In other news, you can read all about what I’ve been up to and what my favourite new products are in my Monday Update! I’m currently attempting to pack for a really big trip I have coming up but I always find it can be an overwhelming process for a lot of people. That’s why I’m thinking of sharing some of my packing tips that I’ve learnt over the years! Is that something you guys would want to read about?

Playing Plaid Mix and Match

Sometimes the most unlikely pieces make the perfect pair.

I’ve never been one to mix two pieces together if I wasn’t 100% sure that they went together pretty well but something about the less obvious pairing, which at first, may seem strange, but something inside you just knows it’s right, has grown on me. Sometimes the most unlikely pieces make the perfect pair; much like this sweater and skirt. I actually bought this sweater and skirt on the same day, and had them on in the trial room at the same time. I had no intention of wearing them together but for the sake of time I tried them on together. When I glanced in the mirror and saw the look together, something inside me clicked – it was like a real life outfit straight from the set of Clueless, but it was quite clued in.

We are all familiar with the infamous tiger Kenzo sweatshirt, something which when I was just dabbling in blogging was my favourite thing to wear. Since them, Kenzo has made a splash on the scene with their H&M collaboration, boasting bright colours and funky patterns but when I saw this more sober sweater, I just knew it was perfect for me. In regard to plaid, you know me, I love a good plaid skirt. The material of this Acne skirt is perfect for keeping you warm this December, and the zip up detail going down the front made it more than just your every day piece of plaid. The colours seem like an unexpected combination, but if you really look at it, they are colours that would all work together on any other occasion, so why not this one?

It’s totally nuts that it is already the first day of December – I swear it was January just yesterday? For me, it’s a time for reflection. To reflect on what I was happy with this year, what went well for TSS, and what could be improved. Shoot me a message if there’s something specific you would like to read about in 2017 – I love reading your messages! I’ve got a very exciting event coming up tonight as well which I will be sharing live with you on my Snapchat! Don’t forget to add me there: The Silk Sneaker!
