I love a bit of sporty flair through a side stripe – It really elongates the figure

When I stepped out of my apartment this morning, I was hit with a very icy blast indeed. It seems that London is just about to get the leftovers of an Arctic freeze, coming our way in full swing with high winds and negative temperatures. I think that means it’s going to be very brrrr indeed. I find that when the weather can go from being manageable to so unforgiving in a matter of seconds (or days or hours.. or minutes. it’s just too unpredictable!) I like to stay as comfortable as possible, but I am also not one to abandon style in my pursuit of comfort.

There is nothing as comfortable as a soft, slightly oversized, turtleneck sweater. The way it hugs you in all the right places and makes sure you stay warm on the top half, no wonder they are an all round winter favourite. I paired my favourite Sandro sweater (a similar one here, and a more affordable one which is also on sale here) with a pair of sporty yet sophisticated pants. What I love about these side striped pants is that they are roomy and comfortable, but the cut and the fall still makes them incredibly stylish. The stripes on the side add that touch of femme leisure while elongating your figure. These are from Zara, but I found a super similar pair here. I added the belt in to add some definition to my silhouette and to balance the two baggy pairings. Plus a waist belt always adds a touch of class!

I recently took a very short and sweet digital detox this weekend (You would have noticed, I was just a little bit quiet on Instagram!) Sometimes you just need to take a deep breath, stop and understand what’s going on around you, what your goals are, and how far away from achieving them you are and what you need to do to get there. Although you feel the effects of stepping away from the Instagram community quite quickly, whether it’s in terms of engagement or just how hard it can be on Monday morning to get back into it, I’ve come back feeling a little bit more refreshed and with a new sense of excitement for everything I want to achieve for you guys in the rest of 2016 and in the new year too!

I have to say though, when I said I’m back, I really am back. I finally got on the Snapchat game and thought I would give that a try! You can add me now on: The Silk Sneaker. C’mon, you know you want to see how weird I really am!

Dress for the Season

It’s that time of year again. Layering time.

Other than the beautiful lights, the mulled wine and the all round Christmas shopping cheer, the other factor that makes the gruelling winter bearable is layering. It’s no secret that I adore layering –  it allows for such creative expression and tests the versatility of all the clothes in your closet. You can take an old dress and make it new just by throwing on some layers and some star accessories – you’ll never have nothing to wear again!

For this look I wanted to breathe some new life into a turtleneck dress I bought a couple of years ago. I got this dress from ASOS but you can find similar ones here and here, both under £30 and one here. I managed to add a little bit more edge to a somewhat girly silhouette by layering a really cool asymmetrical sleeve sweater. I got this one from Whistles a while ago but using a sleeveless bardot top like this one, would get the same effect. The extra touch came with this amazing leather belt.

I love the mix of textures between the dress and the sweater – this just adds another element to the look. The belt adds some definition to your silhouette and pulls the look together while refining and polishing it! I also loved the mix of materials with the knit and the leather of my boots! A simple black and white look always appears more interesting when you play around with materials!

Knitting Around

A go-to classic, the pant and shirt, can be easily upgraded in the most luxe fashion.

Most of us have an outfit formula that we rely on for all those mornings when we wake up and just don’t know what to wear, or rather don’t have time to really think about it. If you’re like me, then you just haven’t had enough coffee to really think about it… When the weather just continues to drop, the usual go to is a pair of pants and a top, but after a while even that look can start to feel stale, Right? Wrong. Even the most basic outfit go-to can be upgraded to create a more luxe look, runway inspired, but for the street. All it takes is a bit of imaginative thinking and texture.

I’m someone who is incredibly inspired by the runway and high fashion, however what’s more exciting about these looks is the way you can recreate them for off the runway – fashion after all is far beyond the ramp. It’s about capturing the essence of the look and creating it for yourself. The rise of loose fits and more relaxed “vibes” makes your favourite pant and top combination a perfect pick, but it comes down to choosing pieces with the perfect fit. To recreate this runway feel, I went for a half tuck with my favourite pyjama shirt. I decided to put a belt on, to peek out from the half tuck, to just add a bit more interest to the whole look and a feel of luxe.

What I love most about this look is that although inspired by the world of high fashion, it’s one that you can easily recreate yourself and is perfect for whatever you need to do today, tomorrow, or any other day this November. The texture that the knit pants add to this combination automatically add more interest to the look and make it more winter ready! So, there’s no need to be racking your brain for new November outfit ideas, you just have to recreate your favourite ones with a few different fits and flares. Don’t forget your arm candy too! I’m pretty obsessed with stacking so always looking for some new additions!

In other news, I was able to get my hands on a beautiful Reformation dress from their pop-up here in London at Covent Garden! So many of you have asked me about what I thought about it – I must say the quality is really great and I love that I’m buying something that is helping the environment while still looking stylish. I also got my hands on one of their pieces from their Net-A-Porter collaboration, so stay tuned for me sharing that! A potential NYE outfit?

Wearing Pyjamas In The Day + Recent Reflections

The past 24 hours have been nothing short of surprising.

Amidst all the thoughts about this pyjama trend driven outfit, there are other topics that seem to be shining a lot brighter in my mind right now. Regardless of what side you were on, or who you voted for, the results of the US presidential election came as a shock to us all. It has governed the topic of conversation on every single whatsapp group I have and has been the go-to topic of conversation at any meal, hair dresser appointment and even spin class I’ve had recently.

Trust me, the air of confusion and fear about the future of the USA has reached London as well. With next to no understanding of what exactly the future presidents policies are especially in terms of trade and defence, the global community is left in a state of shock. It then of course comes as no surprise that a whole generation of votes have taken to the streets to roar their opinions. However, once the overwhelming feelings begin to settle down and the fog clears, there is one thing that none of us can ignore; the only way now is forward. Although a nation finds itself divided by a brutal election season, it is up to that same country to come together, regardless of sex, gender, race or anything else, and pave a path to the future that leads to a better world for generations to come. My hopes now are that the candidate running and the now president elect are two different voices, and that the latter is a voice of reason, understanding and togetherness.

To voice Hilary Clinton, no one can stop you from being who you want to be. Reach far, aim high and dream big. Be sure to be the best that you can be because it is up to us to set the precedent, to set the example and to ensure that we live in a world of love not hate. No matter what, as a woman of this generation, we rise back up and we keep going. I was truly inspired after watching Hilary Clintons gracious speech last night, as I’m sure you all were. Her speech truly rung with positivity and optimism and most of all, encouragement, that there is still hope.

Nevertheless, there was some positive news over the past day as well. Despite the fact that the news was governed by the elections, on the other side of the world one of the biggest democracies of the world took a massive step forward. I’m sure most of you know by now that I am Indian. When I heard the news that all 500RS and 1000RS notes are no longer considered legal tender, I was shocked in the best way possible. The governments action to finally crack down on the large amounts of black money circulating through the economy is a massive step forward in anti-corruption movement that is sure to lead to a brighter and better India. At least that was there to make me smile.

On a much lighter note, I can turn back to the pyjama outfit. (Hah, that even felt weird to write after this little heart to heart above) I’ll keep it brief though – the pyjama trend is one that I absolutely adore because who doesn’t love comfort. As a massive loungewear fan, being able to wear pyjama pants in the day, that too ones that were leopard print (double points!) is the perfect combination of style and ease. To add a balance, I paired it with a more formal high neck top and a fur gilet, striking a balance between trend and classic.

So, what is running through your head about this election? How are you feeling? I want to hear your thoughts!

How To Style A Cape

When it isn’t hot at all, but it isn’t freezing either.

Not sure if it’s all the Harry Potter I’ve been watching (Sky, why do you keep taking away the Harry Potter channel? Can it just be a permanent fixture?) in the lead up to Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, or just all the runway looks I’m subconsciously thinking about, but either way the cape (poncho, blanket, whatever you want to call it) is having a real moment this autumn and since the weather isn’t hot but it definitely isn’t freezing – Winter is yet to come – the blanket cape is about to become your new best friend.

The lack of structure involved with a blanket cape is not usually something I tend to mess around with, but The Silk Sneaker is all about trying new styles and being fearless with style while inspiring you to do the same. I really embraced the flows of the cape , which allows for a lot of versatility in the way you wear it. I opted to wear it with a layered sweater and a skirt with a gorgeous lace hem – It’s nice to have something interesting peeking out from under the cape!

Since the cape itself is quite large, I wanted to make sure to add some definition to my silhouette with my thigh high Stuart Weizman boots. This ensured I didn’t seem lost under all the layers! The blanket cape is perfect for the day time when you find yourself sweating in your regular winter coat. If the weather get’s a bit chilly, I find it’s easiest to just throw on a scarf for extra warmth!

In other news, I finally am recovered from the flu and then the ear infection that followed so finally back on my feet (and on the bike – been spinning lots as you can see through my Instagram stories!) I’ve got a weekend full of birthday celebrations for a few of my friends, so can’t wait to share all of that with you guys as well, as well as an amazing shoot I’m doing tomorrow!
