Battle of the Shampoos: The Best Shampoo For Thicker, Luscious Hair

Fashion and beauty blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker shares the best shampoo for dry hair to make hair thicker

Thick, Beautiful Hair Starts With a Shampoo…

If there was ever a feature I’ve been proud of it’s my hair. I’ve never coloured or treated it, but rather have let it naturally grow and flourish. Of course, I feel very lucky to have very thick shiny hair but it takes a lot of TLC to keep my hair clean and healthy! The trick to having thicker hair, shinier hair, or just better hair, starts with a good shampoo. Over the past 23 years of my life, I have tried and tested so many shampoos, I’ve lost count. It takes at least a month to really see a difference with a beauty product so over the past 3 months I’ve tried three different shampoos. If you’re looking for the best shampoo for dry hair, I’ve got the one for you. If you need a shampoo for more volume in your hair, I’ve even got that! These three shampoos are all wonderful in their own way but each is for someone different. Remember, you’ve got to find your own perfect fit but I guarantee one of these will work for you!

On my Instagram stories, a lot of you said you wanted to know more about my haircare routine. This is just the start of that! I, of course, will be trying more shampoos as the year goes on so if you have any recommendations for me I would love to try. If you have a shampoo and want an opinion about it, chances are I’ve tried it and I would love to share with you! Just sound off in the comments below!

Rita Hazan True Colour Shampoo For
Hair

Okay, you’re looking at this and thinking, “Shloka, I thought you said you don’t colour your hair?” I don’t but I was recommended this shampoo to try anyway and I have to say I was so excited about the results. Since it’s for people with coloured or treated hair, I found that this shampoo was incredibly nourishing. It left my hair super shiny and squeaky clean without stripping it off its natural moisture. Perfect for shiny locks, coloured or uncoloured! Just an FYI, Rita Hazan is the colourist for Beyonce, so you really can look like the Queen herself.

Grow Gorgeous Volumising Shampoo For
Hair

I was introduced to Grow Gorgeous a few months ago. I’m sure some of you saw my hair after I used the shampoo and conditioner at their event (Think fluffy clouds and a swing with my big curls, or just see the photo here). I took the shampoo home and tried it out for a month. I’m going, to be honest, I was really sceptical about it to start with. It was £15 pounds and I had never heard of them before. By the end of the month, I was so pleasantly surprised that this shampoo even made my monthly best of beauty post! Admittedly my hair was not as shiny as when I used the options above and below, but I did have so much volume in my hair! It’s perfect if you’re looking for an easy everyday shampoo for lots of volume!

Aesop Calming Shampoo For
Hair

This is my FAVOURITE shampoo. I love it so much that it’s in all caps. This is the shampoo that I would recommend above all. It smells amazing, it’s made of good quality, high end, natural ingredients and it does everything right for your hair. It nourishes your scalp and ends, it smells amazing, it doesn’t’ strip your hair of anything good, and it leaves it so shiny!! This is a product that I have so many empty bottles of that I could create an art piece. I like to use it with a conditioner, but more on conditioners another day!

Why You Need This Sweater In Your Wardrobe Now

Fashion blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker shares the must have sweater for 2018 in this sweater outfit idea

The Sweater You Won’t Be Able To Do Without…

Although we are well into winter, I know that so many of you, me included, can’t help but long for spring. The whole sweater, bottoms and boots outfit combination can start to feel a little old after you’ve been doing it for a few months right? Well, it doesn’t have to be! The perfect sweater outfit takes the perfect sweater of course, and the perfect sweater is sure to make any winter outfit feel fresher and more stylish! Might as well have some fun before spring get’s here right? That is exactly why you need this sweater in your wardrobe right now.

What I love most about this piece is that it’s a statement without being too in your face. The puffy sleeves add such a great point of interest to any outfit, immediately making any look chicer. I guarantee that even if you were to pair this sweater style with jeans, you would look just like a model of duty. The colour is so versatile and you could create so many fun and new outfits with just one piece. That is when you know that a piece of clothing is worth it when you can wear it a hundred different ways!

Since the sweater is slightly oversized I paired it with a straight mini skirt, in the plaid of course. I wanted to add a bit more definition to the look since I am so petite. A waist belt was the perfect way to do that all the while making this the perfect outfit for a desk to drinks kind of day! You could rock this outfit with thigh high boots or even riding boots but I, of course, could not resist my combat boots for this particular one. I shot this before I got my Church’s pair, but they would go so perfectly don’t you think?

How would you style this sweater?

Fashion blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker shares her three tips for dealing with failure

3 Ways I’ve Learned To Deal With Failure

Fashion blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker shares her three tips for dealing with failure

Failure Doesn’t Have To Be Scary…

When most of us hear the word failure, we experience fear, anger and negativity. Even so, failure is a part of life and the number one lesson I’ve learned through my experiences with failure is that it doesn’t have to be a negative experience. Trust me, I am my biggest critic. As most of my friends will tell you, I am a perfectionist and the idea that I wasn’t able to do something drives me crazy. I’ve messed up speeches in school, had nightmare shoots, sent emails full of mistakes, made mistakes on assignments, you name it. But I also know, I’m not alone in this. I have found that when adopting three simple principles when approaching a situation where I have “failed”, I am able to channel my negative energy into positivity, which usually leads to something wonderful. I wanted to share these three simple thoughts with you and hopefully show you how failure isn’t something to fear.

Take Something Away

In every “failure,” there is a lesson. Although it is so easy to be sucked into the abyss and find yourself surrounded by negativity from the situation, it takes great mental strength to instead see the light. Rather than focusing on everything horrible, instead, focus on what you can take away that will enrich your future life. A perfect recent example for me is my battle with Instagram and the algorithm. At first, I sulked. Why were my numbers so low? Why weren’t my posts reaching my audience? I found a reason to blame everything else. It wasn’t until I stopped and looked for the lesson in the situation, that I was able to stand back up and succeed. Once I started to create better quality content that my followers wanted to see, the rest followed. So, rather than seeing “failure” as the end game, use it as a stepping stone. Find the lesson, learn from it and apply it in your next try. You are 100% sure to do better.

I was so unhappy with this photo and I was struggling with the light but I just kept trying until I got the shot!

Fashion blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker shares her three tips for dealing with failure

Turn a Negative Into A Positive

Again, this is easier said than done and trust me, I have many days where I struggle to see the positive, but on the days where I do, I find success to be closer than I thought. With any “failure” it is easier to see all the things you did wrong than to see all that you did right. I always find that when I reflect on the situation as a whole, understand what went wrong, but also what went right, I find myself more inclined to try again. Even if you are only able to find one positive from the whole situation, allow the positive energy to encourage you to try again. Remember, a small step leads to a bigger leap. Trust yourself, and remind yourself that you can still do this! It’s only human to make a mistake, but I guarantee that you’ve done more right than wrong!

Remember, You Define Your Parameters

If you’ve noticed, I’ve put the word failure in quotations through my post. I do this to remind myself and to remind you that “failure” doesn’t exist until you let it. This is a concept I’ve mentioned before when I shared the five lessons I learned when I moved away from home. We are responsible for defining our parameters and criteria. If you do not succeed the first time, it is not a “failure” unless you do not try again. If you keep trying and eventually make it, you never failed, it was all just a part of your journey. I always remind myself that each time I feel like I have not succeeded, I just have to pick myself up and try again and I will get there and you can too.

Fashion blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker shares her three tips for dealing with failure

I hope that you feel encouraged and inspired to turn every situation into a positive one. Remember that there is always a chance to try again, you just have to take it!  How do you deal with failure? Do you have any tips to share with me?

How To Make Your Outfit Look More Expensive

Fashion blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker showcases how to make your outfit look more expensive with Zara and Urban Outfitters

Any Outfit Can Look More
Than It Is With These Tips…

One of the questions I am constantly asked is where I shop for clothes. A lot of you expect me to churn out a list of designer brands and are most surprised when I tell you that the sweater you adore is from one of my favourite high street stores! Making your outfit look more expensive is much simpler than you think and you don’t need to break the bank to create that must have look of the day! I love to mix high street with high end, to create outfits that can be recreated for every day. When I’m mixing up different pieces, there are four tricks that always make my outfit look more expensive. Read on to find out!

1. Classic Colours Will Never Fail You
Neutral colours (think black, white, grey, earth tones, navy) never go out of style. These are the kinds of colours that match with anything. They are also the pieces you will use the most! These are also the colours that look the classiest and will automatically make your outfit look more expensive. Neutrals also look great on every skin tone and are universally flattering, which also make your look more luxe. A classic colour will always look more expensive than one that is trend-driven!

2. Be Aware of Patterns
Certain patterns are effortless and therefore always in style, no matter the season. Stripes are one such pattern. You can combine different types of stripes or simply wear one striped piece. Regardless of whether it’s from Zara like my dress here, or somewhere else, a pattern that is so chic and always in style, will always look more expensive and put together. If patterns are not your thing, don’t shy away from textures like cable knits and silk.

3. Monochrome
Taking a cue from point one, an easy to way to make a neutral more interesting is by creating a monochrome look. You can try a camel top to toe look for a super luxe look or go all navy for something a bit more laidback yet luxurious, like what I’ve done here! A monochrome look is a no-brainer way to make your outfit seem more pricey than it was. Just be aware of the shades you are combining; avoid combining shades that are too far apart on the colour scale!

4. Invest in Accessories
If there is ever anything to invest your money in, it is accessories. Accessorise, rather than clothes, will last you a lifetime. A lot of my bags have been passed down to me by my mother and I hope to one day pass them down too. Well made shoes and bags will always draw positive attention and create a more luxurious look and feel to your outfit. Remember it is quality over quantity when it comes to these things. Your accessories do not need to be designer for them to be good quality either! A lot of premium brands like Sandro and Theory make beautiful bags and shoes too!

I always define my style as “laidback luxury” but a luxury for me isn’t just about the name on the label. Luxury is about how something looks and feels on you; it’s about having the best piece for yourself. Your favourite sweater might be from Topshop but if it makes you feel like a million bucks, that’s a luxury too! I hope that I can remind you all that you don’t need to be wearing a dress from the runway to look beautiful. It could just be from the rack at Zara, but make you smile just as much!

3 Ways You Can Start The New Year in Style

fashion blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker showcases how to start the new year in style with her 2018 style resolutions featuring amazon fashion, joe's jeans and louis vuitton

New Year, New Outfit…

Happy New Year! I just wanted to say that I hope you all have a wonderful year. May all your dreams come true and may the year bring you lots of happiness and love! As we say hello to 2018, getting back into the groove of things can be overwhelming. Not only does the new year mean getting back to work, but it also means that we can’t live in our Christmas jumpers and leggings anymore! Trust me, when I was staring at my closet this morning, I struggled to pull together an outfit, but one of my style resolutions for 2018 is to feel stylish every single day, no matter what I’m wearing. With that in mind, I wanted to share 3 tips that will help you start this brand new year in style, as well as make all the old pieces in your closet feel new again. Don’t worry, you don’t necessarily need a whole new wardrobe for your “new year, new me” attitude. Just follow these three tips and you’ll be feeling as stylish as ever!

1. Layer old pieces to make them feel new again
If you live in a cold country like me, then layering is your best friend! Get creative with your layering to make old piece feel brand new! I layered a turtleneck, an old plaid jacket and an older leather one to create this look. By putting them all together in a way that I had not done before, they felt fresh and new! Why not try this combination with your favourite jackets?

2. Don’t’ shy away from colours
When the weather is cold and gloomy, we all can’t help but reach for black and white. Rather than sticking to the greyscale, reach for some colour to brighten up your day! By making a statement with colour, you are sure to look stylish without having to try very hard!

3. Classics will never fail you.
Never underestimate the power of a classic piece. A turtleneck, a plaid blazer, a leather jacket, blue jeans. All the pieces I’m wearing are classic pieces and when combined they make for a no-fail outfit combination! Remember, by pairing together classics, you can come up with so many wonderful winter outfit ideas! Classics aren’t boring, classics are essential!

Another one of my style resolutions for 2018 is to really use each and every piece in my wardrobe! This outfit really started me off on the right track. What are your style resolutions for 2018?
