LUXE LOOK

This post contains affiliate links however this does not affect you in any way!

Here are all the luxe looking accessories that are under £50 that are in trend for spring summer 2019!

I love sharing my luxury accessories with you all especially because you guys are all so interested in them and have such an appreciation for fashion just like me. But what I love about fashion is that you don’t always need to spend a ton to be able to get a luxe look. In fact, some of the trending accessories of the season can all be found for under £50 while still making you look more expensive (think hair accessories, like diamante hair clips!). My three favourites of the season are hands down, hair accessories like large hair clips and headbands, shell jewellery and uber strappy sandals.

Luxury fashion blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker showcases a spring outfit with her tips on how to get ready faster in the morning with Givenchy, Storets and Prada Headband

HAIR ACCESSORIES

One of the easiest ways to make your outfit look more expensive is to add in a hair accessory. One scroll through your Instagram and you’ll know that hair clips are all the rage. Channel your inner Blair Waldorf and add one of these gorgeous pieces to your outfit. If you’re feeling extra daring you’ll rock more than one at a time!

You can also see my post on how to wear a headband here.

SHELL JEWELLERY

Fair warning, you’re going to see a lot of shell jewellery on The Silk Sneaker in the coming months. It is such an easy and fun way to get a summer feel for your outfit without having to spend a ton, especially because a lot of high-end brands like Etro are putting it on the runway too. Here are some of my favourite pieces that are all under 50 that you can start wearing now!

You can also check out the trending earring styles for spring summer 2019 here.

STRAPPY SANDALS

Put the boots away and grab your strappiest sandals around. The concept behind this luxe-looking trend is to have shoes that are “barely there” – there’s something really chic about it right? There are a lot of gorgeous designer pairs out there but there are also some awesome high street versions out there too. A few of these are over £50 but they are all under £100 so still good quality and affordable.

I was walking around Notting Hill with Alise the other day and we were so excited to see all the beautiful flowers blooming and the rows of magnolia trees. What made me even more excited, was that it’s finally time to start thinking about spring and summer dresses! This year, I am really feeling midi and maxi dresses, especially in linen and tie-dye! That really works for me because tie-dye also happens to be one of the biggest spring summer fashion trends for 2019.

For this summer dress outfit, I styled my tie-dye maxi dress with a light utility jacket, both from Zara. I love the mix of the pastel colours of the dress with the khaki of my spring jacket. For another pop of colour, I added in a little neck scarf. I get a lot of questions about this one. It’s from Dior and it has an S on it (for Shloka obviously, but I seem to get a lot of emails saying “Dear Silky”. Is that worse than Dear The Silk Sneaker?) They still have many available in every letter!

Accessories wise, I kept it simple with one of my favourite pairs of flats; my Malone Souliers pink flats. My favourite part of the outfit has to be my sunglasses chain! I know that sunglasses chain are still a micro-trend and not everyone has gained the courage to wear them, but I hope that all the times I’ve featured them and plan to feature them show you guys how versatile and how cool they are! I got the pearl chain at Selfridges but you can also check out Frame Chain for more!

I’ve linked to some of my favourite dresses below you can get a head start!

As much as I am a London girl at heart, I cannot deny that I always strive to dress like a Parisian. There is something about Paris street style that just oozes a level of cool and effortless. In many ways, it is exactly what I mean when I describe my style as “laid-back luxury”. After analysing all the street style photos from Paris Fashion Week I felt so inspired to take my Parisian style onto the streets of London and share with you a few tips on how to dress Parisian when you aren’t in Paris, with my latest spring outfit.

Of course, when a lot of girls think Paris, they think a chic blazer, cool jeans, block heels and a t-shirt. As much as that is my go to combination for a normal day, I wanted to channel the girlier styles that we see coming out of our favourite French city. Parisian women ooze confidence in everything they wear, and they always have something about their outfit that is a little extra special; it’s about that attention to detail. I brought that into my outfit with my favourite pink backless jumper. I love anything with a back detail and so does a Parisian!

French women also pay attention to their accessories and in this case, I paid special attention to my shoes. You will remember these kitten heels that I bought last year around my birthday and they are still one of my favourite pairs. I love that you can change the strap to suit any outfit. Of course, I had to add in a headband as well!

Lastly, Parisian women are no fuss femininity. Their outfits are not over thought out or overdone, they just go together. This outfit just went together for me. I felt comfortable and confident in my high waisted trousers and I think that showed in the confidence I felt while I was wearing this look!

The Spring Summer 2019 Fashion Trends You Can Actually Wear

HELLO SPRING

Your ultimate guide to the chicest spring summer fashion trends that you can actually incorporate into your wardrobe.

Is it just me or is everyone extra excited about the spring-summer 2019 fashion trends? With fashion month drawing to a close, I’m feeling particularly inspired by all the fabulous street style to come out of Paris Fashion Week, especially with the way everyone has worked current fashion trends into their outfits. I am so excited to finally switch my wardrobe over to a new season, but to also share with you the fashion trends for spring and summer that are actually worth buying, wearing and rocking.

In my guide, you’ll find the trends that you can actually wear, from tie-dye to utility suits. Of course, it can be hard to visualise how to work these current it pieces into your everyday wardrobe, which is why I will also be providing tips and tricks on how to wear them, as well as some high street versions of the pieces that you can get your hands on! In addition to all the things listed here, bicycle shorts are still very much in trend but I am still refusing to wear them. Why you ask? Because I don’t think they suit my personal style. On that note, I wanted to share with you that as much as these things are all trending, you do not need to wear every single one of them if they don’t speak to you! Wear what suits you and what makes you feel good, not just because it’s a trend!

Calvin Klein, Dior, Stella McCartney

TIE DYE

Do you remember making tie-dye t-shirts in art class? I do, and I remember thinking, am I ever going to wear these in real life? Well, that time has finally arrived so thank you, Mrs. Gupta, for that lesson! It surprises most people to know how much I love tie-dye and I’ve already worn this trend to London Fashion Week!

Style Tip

To balance out your outfit, pair tie dye pieces with more tailored ones. For example pair your tie dye t shirt or hoodie with a tailored pair of trousers and kitten heels.

BEACH BABE

When I say Beach Babe, I mean board shorts (the answer to bicycle shorts is finally back haha!), crochet, shell jewellery and bucket hats; the ultimate surfer vibe is here for spring and it’s time to tap into that inner zen. I particularly love this trend because you don’t need a lot to get the look! You can pick any of these pieces, like crochet or board shorts and immediately be in trend! Here are some of my favourites:

Style Tip:

Just like with tie-dye, wearing this trend is all about balance. Pair your board shorts with a beautiful short and kitten heels. Crochet is also a great feminine trend you can work into your outfit.

NEON

Another trend I was surprised that I warmed up to was neon. You guys were loving my neon outfit for London Fashion Week and I have a post going live on how to wear neon everyday without looking like a traffic cone. This is one of those trends that may not stay around forever but it’s already made appearances on the fall-winter catwalks so if you’ve invested into it, don’t worry, it’s going to be here for a while!

Style Tip:

What I love about neon is that it’s actually quite fun to pair with other colours. You can colour block it in a a great way for example neon orange with baby pink and beige or neon yellow with blue jeans!

Is it just me or is everyone extra excited about the spring-summer 2019 fashion trends?

STRAPPY SANDALS

This is one of the most elegant trends of the season I think, after the one below. I love a beautiful strappy sandal, especially because this style of shoe goes with pretty much anything, and at any occasion day or night. Now you know what I always say, investing in accessories is always worth it because accessories can last forever but if you don’t have the buck to put down just yet, I’ve linked to some high end and high street options of this trend.

Dior, Max Mara, Fendi

BEIGE TONES

I love a good beige moment; in fact, I wrote a whole post about how to wear beige as a brown girl right here. Although previously considered boring, beige looks are on fire right now with everyone sporting this incredibly classic trend. What I love about this trend is exactly what I just said, it’s classic. No matter how many beige pieces you buy this season and wear together, you can for seasons to come! Worth the investment for sure.

80’s VIBE

My favourite part of this trend is that its a carry-over from the previous season! When a trend goes on for more than one season you know it’s worth it! Bold shoulders and powerful silhouettes are always appealing so here’s an easy way to get the look with these pieces! This trend is all about being a boss and letting that shine through babe!

UTILITY

You know I’ve always been a jumpsuit girl; jumpsuits are the easiest way to create an outfit that looks so effortless and put together. Utility suits are seriously in style as are belt bags and anything else that screams utility. It’s a very easy way to get a cool girl vibe! Here are some of my favourite pieces and there will be more on this trend soon.

Style Tip

Cargo pants are something we all have in our closet, that or a bum bag. Both are easy ways to get this look!

This week we got a real taste of spring here in London and although I couldn’t take my spring outfits for a spin just yet (I was down with the flu, was such a bummer but all your amazing and positive messages on Instagram made me smile so much!) I am so excited to start planning out the cutest outfits that you all can rock this season. I am always taking inspiration from the fashion world around me, especially with all the beautiful street style coming out of Paris fashion week right now, but with all that said and done, there are three things that I always look forward to wearing every spring. Here are your spring outfit essentials and how to style them already:

1. Spring skirts
I was recently asked what my go-to outfit is when I’m in a rush and more often than not you’re going to find me in a skirt and blouse/sweater (Can we stop saying the word sweater now that it’s almost spring?) I am so excited to start pulling out all my favourite spring skirts and stocking up on new ones! This spring, I’ve noticed there are a lot of mini and midi shapes trending, especially slip skirts! I’ve linked to some of my favourites here:

2. Pastel colours
I am such a spring and summer baby. I love all the beautiful colours associated with the season, especially pastels. Pastel pink is one of my all-time favourite colours when it comes to basically everything and I’ve already started to pull out my favourite pastel pieces, like this top handle Dior handbag. Pastels are always a fashion trend for spring and summer, but this season we are seeing a lot of pistachio green. I covered some of my favourite pistachio green pieces here!

3. Ankle boots
It’s time to pack those thigh high boots away and say hello to ankle boots. (There is only one outfit exception I’m making for high boots and you will see that one very soon!) This season we see a fashion trend carrying over from last year; cowboy boots. I was so excited when I finally got my hands on these Isabel Marant cowboy boots and I even wrote an entire review about them here. If there’s a boot style you need this year it’s this one! I’ve linked to some of my favourites here below:

TSS Update: March

Happy

Luxury fashion blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker shares her casual winter outfit ideas for a cute outfit with her style commandments featuring Miu Miu, black combat boots and a Zara Skirt

A very happy March, and almost spring to you all! Although we all got a taste of spring here in London last month, I’m waiting for the peonies to bloom and the sun to be shining well into the late evenings. I wanted to bring back these monthly updates for you guys as there are so many new readers on the blog, and it’s such a good chance for you to get to know me better.

Last month was fashion week and I got to attend some really special shows at London Fashion Week. I always have a bitter sweet feeling about fashion week here in London. On one hand, there can be a lot of cliques and cattiness between people and what shocks me most is when you see that person who you interact with on Instagram all the time and they blatantly ignore you because you just aren’t “cool enough” in that moment. On the other hand though, I also get to meet a lot of amazing people who inspire me, connect with fellow bloggers who are so sweet and kind and I get to watch the work of designers I’ve admired for years. I have never felt as exhilarated at a fashion week as when I sat down to watch Peter Pilotto this season. I hope that there are going to be only more amazing moments to come that I can share with you guys.

I also managed to meet so many people I admire including Eva Chen and Leonnie. Leonnie is so SWEET! I was blown away by her kindness and how down to earth she is. Another fabulous blogger I got to finally meet and connect with was Bianca. She reminded me that there are still so many amazing ladies out there doing what I do.

In other news, I got ill at the end of the month which was really annoying but it forced me to take a step back and rest. After all we all need to be kind and good to our bodies right? I have a really exciting month coming up and I hope to see you guys here for that!

How To Create The Perfect Flatlay

Fashion and beauty blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker showcases how to create the perfect flatlay with fashion and beauty products

LAY IT OUT

Make sure to turn your Ad Blocker off so you can shop this page!

When I started my blog, I was introduced to the flatlay. What started off as a simple layout of a few fun items has now evolved into one of the biggest Instagram sensations to hit your feed. All these years later, it’s stil going strong and is now also a regular appearance on my page as well. The response from you all to my flat lays have been overwhelming and after a lot of trial and error over the years, I’ve picked up some amazing tips to help you, my TSS family, get the dreamiest flatlay around. Traditionally a flat lay is exactly what the name suggests, a group of items laid out flat. Usually they are organised in a specific way and taken from above. This is not necessarily the case anymore! Of course those still work a treat, but now you can create more minimal versions or even “messier” versions of the same.

So, scroll down and enjoy my flatly tips! I would love to know what your favourite flatlay has been so far and what your special tips are!

Fashion and beauty blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker showcases how to create the perfect flatlay with fashion and beauty products

START WITH A FOCUS

Make sure your flatlays are highlighting something specific. This could be a colour or shades you love (rainbow anyone?), a theme, your favourite bag, lipstick or simply your favourite things! This is always a great place to start. It’s always good to choose something that makes you happy, even if it’s your morning coffee or your newest flower arrangement. In this photo, it was all about my new Chanel lipsticks that I was trying out during my morning coffee to see how well they lasted!

A few other instagrammers who do an amazing job of this are Tara Milk Tea and Design by Aikonik.

Fashion and beauty blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker showcases how to create the perfect flatlay with fashion and beauty products

CHASE THE LIGHT

Naturaly light always works better. It also creates soft shadows and does not distort the colours, I always gravitate towards spots with beautiful natural light. The best spot is always by a window or outside at a cafe table. You can even be really adventerous and do it on the sidewalk! I am known to create flatlays everytime we go out for a coffee or to an event. This photo was taken at the Jo Malone town house,

I think a huge misconception people have is that they can fix any photo with a filter. Yes, filters are an amazing way to express your aesthetic but don’t rely too heavily on a filter to fix the lighting in a shot, especially a flatlay!

It’s always good to choose something that makes you happy, even if it’s your morning coffee or your newest flower arrangement.

Fashion and beauty blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker showcases how to create the perfect flatlay with fashion and beauty products

CHOOSE A BACKDROP

Keep your background simple! Textured tiles like marble work really well. Sometimes I like toa dd an addtional texture to my backdrop like a scarf or a knit for more dimension. If you decide to go for a bolder background, nake sure the pieces you use contrast the background and stand out enough. Also keep the items you choose simple! This photo was taken on a balcony. My backdrop had a lot going on with the beautiful buildings so I kept the items minimal.

Remember not to have too many points of focus if you are creating a more non traditional flatlay like this one!

Fashion and beauty blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker showcases how to create the perfect flatlay with fashion and beauty products

USING THE GRID

Your iPhone camera has a grid that you can use as a guide to your flatlay. I never use a ruler (much to the contrary of what everyone thinks!) but instead I rely on the grid to help me make sure everything is aligned; perfect when you’re out for brunch, cause lets be real, pulling out a ruler would just be strange.

Remember that the grid operates on the rule of thirds so you want your focal points to be in line with the lines on the grid and the crosses between them.

Fashion and beauty blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker showcases how to create the perfect flatlay with fashion and beauty products

THINK ABOUT COLOUR

Colours are super important, especially when choosing what goes in your flatlay. Choose colours that compliment each other. You can occasionally add pops of colour that act as contrasts (ex: all blue with a pop of orange! Think about opposing colours on the colour wheel). Essentially, make sure your colours go well together and don’at clash. Make it soothing on the eyes! In this photo the pink bag is my pop of colour and it goes well with the denim.

You are now fully geared and ready to conquer that flatlay you’ve been wanting to share forever. I think after all these tips that I’ve learnt over time, the most important one is to not be afraid of trial and error. Flatlays can take time and if you don’t get it right the first time, don’t worry about it. I usually move things around and take 500 shots before I get that one perfect one so be patient with yourself and always look for the beauty in the everyday around you.

Make sure to tag me in all your flatlay creations and use #TSSflatlay for a chance to be featured on my stories and blog! You’re going to want to get practicing, especially because I have a very special flatlay giveaway coming up next week! Stay tuned!

I hope you guys enjoy these special tips and tricks to creating the perfect flatlay.

3 Tips To Get Ready Faster in The Morning

THINK FAST

Photos by Alise Jane

When I was in school, the number one reason why I was late was that I couldn’t decide what to wear. Fast forward to university, and that problem continued on. Over time I finally figured out a system that worked well for me and helped me to get ready faster in the morning, while still being happy with the outfit I was in when I walked out the door. So, I know that a lot of you have had the same moment as me when you open your closet in the morning and pretty much hate everything you’re looking at, right? To avoid that mini-meltdown, and save you enough time in the morning, I have three special tips to help you get ready faster. (Also, can we not miss the headband? I am in love with this Prada headband and I feel like it’s relevant because I’ve been rocking a headband since I was 4)

Think About Your Outfit in Advance
Okay, I know this is the most obvious tip of all time and I know that a lot of you don’t like to take your outfit out the night before simply because you’re tired, you don’t have the time, or you want to see how you feel the next day. I don’t think you should be as OCD as me (I think about my outfits a week in advance when I know I have lots of events…) but it does help to have an idea of what you’re going to wear. Think about a look you’d like to put together the night before so that when you wake up in the morning, you know what you’re looking for.

Find Accessories To Fall Back On
What lands up happening is that you sometimes feel like your outfit is too “bland” and you’re tempted to start again. Resist this urge! Instead, organise your accessories so you know which ones work to spice up your outfit. In my outfit, I added in the high socks and the headband to make an otherwise simple spring outfit, look that much more chic.

Know Where To Look
If you think that you have to compromise on style to get ready fast in the morning, I’m here to assure you that you can have your cake and eat it too. Sometimes the best way to figure out what to wear is to look at your inspirations! Check out my Instagram page for all my outfits and what I wear every day, or even have a browse on Pinterest for what others have put together. You’ll probably find an idea in a matter of minutes!
