Why You Need This Sweater In Your Wardrobe Now

Fashion blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker shares the must have sweater for 2018 in this sweater outfit idea

The Sweater You Won’t Be Able To Do Without…

Although we are well into winter, I know that so many of you, me included, can’t help but long for spring. The whole sweater, bottoms and boots outfit combination can start to feel a little old after you’ve been doing it for a few months right? Well, it doesn’t have to be! The perfect sweater outfit takes the perfect sweater of course, and the perfect sweater is sure to make any winter outfit feel fresher and more stylish! Might as well have some fun before spring get’s here right? That is exactly why you need this sweater in your wardrobe right now.

What I love most about this piece is that it’s a statement without being too in your face. The puffy sleeves add such a great point of interest to any outfit, immediately making any look chicer. I guarantee that even if you were to pair this sweater style with jeans, you would look just like a model of duty. The colour is so versatile and you could create so many fun and new outfits with just one piece. That is when you know that a piece of clothing is worth it when you can wear it a hundred different ways!

Since the sweater is slightly oversized I paired it with a straight mini skirt, in the plaid of course. I wanted to add a bit more definition to the look since I am so petite. A waist belt was the perfect way to do that all the while making this the perfect outfit for a desk to drinks kind of day! You could rock this outfit with thigh high boots or even riding boots but I, of course, could not resist my combat boots for this particular one. I shot this before I got my Church’s pair, but they would go so perfectly don’t you think?

How would you style this sweater?

How To Make Your Outfit Look More Expensive

Fashion blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker showcases how to make your outfit look more expensive with Zara and Urban Outfitters

Any Outfit Can Look More
Than It Is With These Tips…

One of the questions I am constantly asked is where I shop for clothes. A lot of you expect me to churn out a list of designer brands and are most surprised when I tell you that the sweater you adore is from one of my favourite high street stores! Making your outfit look more expensive is much simpler than you think and you don’t need to break the bank to create that must have look of the day! I love to mix high street with high end, to create outfits that can be recreated for every day. When I’m mixing up different pieces, there are four tricks that always make my outfit look more expensive. Read on to find out!

1. Classic Colours Will Never Fail You
Neutral colours (think black, white, grey, earth tones, navy) never go out of style. These are the kinds of colours that match with anything. They are also the pieces you will use the most! These are also the colours that look the classiest and will automatically make your outfit look more expensive. Neutrals also look great on every skin tone and are universally flattering, which also make your look more luxe. A classic colour will always look more expensive than one that is trend-driven!

2. Be Aware of Patterns
Certain patterns are effortless and therefore always in style, no matter the season. Stripes are one such pattern. You can combine different types of stripes or simply wear one striped piece. Regardless of whether it’s from Zara like my dress here, or somewhere else, a pattern that is so chic and always in style, will always look more expensive and put together. If patterns are not your thing, don’t shy away from textures like cable knits and silk.

3. Monochrome
Taking a cue from point one, an easy to way to make a neutral more interesting is by creating a monochrome look. You can try a camel top to toe look for a super luxe look or go all navy for something a bit more laidback yet luxurious, like what I’ve done here! A monochrome look is a no-brainer way to make your outfit seem more pricey than it was. Just be aware of the shades you are combining; avoid combining shades that are too far apart on the colour scale!

4. Invest in Accessories
If there is ever anything to invest your money in, it is accessories. Accessorise, rather than clothes, will last you a lifetime. A lot of my bags have been passed down to me by my mother and I hope to one day pass them down too. Well made shoes and bags will always draw positive attention and create a more luxurious look and feel to your outfit. Remember it is quality over quantity when it comes to these things. Your accessories do not need to be designer for them to be good quality either! A lot of premium brands like Sandro and Theory make beautiful bags and shoes too!

I always define my style as “laidback luxury” but a luxury for me isn’t just about the name on the label. Luxury is about how something looks and feels on you; it’s about having the best piece for yourself. Your favourite sweater might be from Topshop but if it makes you feel like a million bucks, that’s a luxury too! I hope that I can remind you all that you don’t need to be wearing a dress from the runway to look beautiful. It could just be from the rack at Zara, but make you smile just as much!

3 Ways You Can Start The New Year in Style

fashion blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker showcases how to start the new year in style with her 2018 style resolutions featuring amazon fashion, joe's jeans and louis vuitton

New Year, New Outfit…

Happy New Year! I just wanted to say that I hope you all have a wonderful year. May all your dreams come true and may the year bring you lots of happiness and love! As we say hello to 2018, getting back into the groove of things can be overwhelming. Not only does the new year mean getting back to work, but it also means that we can’t live in our Christmas jumpers and leggings anymore! Trust me, when I was staring at my closet this morning, I struggled to pull together an outfit, but one of my style resolutions for 2018 is to feel stylish every single day, no matter what I’m wearing. With that in mind, I wanted to share 3 tips that will help you start this brand new year in style, as well as make all the old pieces in your closet feel new again. Don’t worry, you don’t necessarily need a whole new wardrobe for your “new year, new me” attitude. Just follow these three tips and you’ll be feeling as stylish as ever!

1. Layer old pieces to make them feel new again
If you live in a cold country like me, then layering is your best friend! Get creative with your layering to make old piece feel brand new! I layered a turtleneck, an old plaid jacket and an older leather one to create this look. By putting them all together in a way that I had not done before, they felt fresh and new! Why not try this combination with your favourite jackets?

2. Don’t’ shy away from colours
When the weather is cold and gloomy, we all can’t help but reach for black and white. Rather than sticking to the greyscale, reach for some colour to brighten up your day! By making a statement with colour, you are sure to look stylish without having to try very hard!

3. Classics will never fail you.
Never underestimate the power of a classic piece. A turtleneck, a plaid blazer, a leather jacket, blue jeans. All the pieces I’m wearing are classic pieces and when combined they make for a no-fail outfit combination! Remember, by pairing together classics, you can come up with so many wonderful winter outfit ideas! Classics aren’t boring, classics are essential!

Another one of my style resolutions for 2018 is to really use each and every piece in my wardrobe! This outfit really started me off on the right track. What are your style resolutions for 2018?

Fashion Blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker reveals her favourite colour to wear as millennial pink styling Sandro and Maje

Why I Will Always Love Millennial Pink

Fashion Blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker reveals her favourite colour to wear as millennial pink styling Sandro and Maje

Who Doesn’t Love Millennial Pink?

As 2017 comes to an end, I can’t help but wonder if everyone will stop loving “millennial” pink and start loving something else. Of course, it’s only natural that trends come and go but I for one, have always loved pink. Pastel, dusty or millennial, there is nothing pink that I can resist so of course, I have no intention of ever abandoning this colour. What I love most about this colour is how easy it is to style and match. One might think that pink is a difficult, if not statement colour, to wear and style but it’s quite the opposite. I find that my pastel pink pieces go with almost everything I own, regardless of the colour.

What I also love about pink is that it’s able to add a touch of femininity to any outfit I might style! For example, I’m not exactly one to put on a super sporty/athleisure look. (Although I was the captain of my varsity football/soccer team in high school!) I fell in love with this gorgeous hoodie from Sandro. Paired with jeans, it’s the perfect spin on athleisure but paired with this gorgeous Maje pink skirt, it’s an elegant outfit in the making! I love how the navy blue and white compliment the baby pink and of course the whole outfit was pulled together with my favourite new thigh high boots!

Of course, as luck would have it, Anastasija and I came across this beautiful, lit up, pink wall. Didn’t I say I couldn’t resist pink? It made for such a fun backdrop to an outfit that I know I’m going to be wearing on repeat so don’t be surprised if you see it at least a few more times on my Instagram!

What is a colour you can’t stop wearing and why?

What To Wear To Your Next Christmas Party: The Perfect Holiday Outfit

Fashion blogger Shloka Narang shares a stunning Christmas party outfit idea featuring ba&sh and dior

Tis The Season…

As our calendars start to fill with holiday parties, it’s time to get out our favourite dancing shoes and our prettiest dresses and skirts. I know that I sometimes struggle with party outfit ideas, especially when the occasions are so frequent! This year though, I found my favourite party outfit to date. The key to the perfect party outfit is always having that one piece that’s more interesting than the rest. In this case, though, I found three pieces that are statements in their own right but are a match made in fashion heaven when combined. I think it’s important to remember, especially for a good party outfit, that when combining many statement pieces, make sure you keep your colour palette as sober as possible. I opted in for a total classic, an all-black look.

Ba&sh is one of my favourite brands (I promise this is not sponsored, I’m just obsessed) and this year I snagged the most beautiful sweater ba&sh sweater. The low back with the crystal details makes it a perfect option for any holiday celebration. Since I was going for covered knitwear on top, I wanted to have some fun and go with something sheer on the bottom. I picked up this sheer panelled skirt while I was in India but I’ve found some similar options, like this one here and this super elegant one here (Both are super affordable too!) I love how balanced the look is, not showing too much or too little!

If there is any time for more is more, the holidays are it. Don’t shy away from accessories for your holiday party outfits! I pulled out my favourite Sophia Webster heels. I love the fun geometric pattern. They are so easy to wear because of the colours! I grabbed my favourite Dior bag and I was ready to go – holiday party ready! Would you wear this look? What are you wearing to your holiday parties?

What I’ve Been Wearing in India So Far: Indian Outfits and more!

As some of you may know from my Instagram, I’ve been in India for the past week! It’s been an incredibly hectic week so far with a secret project in the works as well as attending a beautiful wedding! With a little bit more time here in Bombay, I wanted to share all the outfits I’ve been wearing so far and where you can get them too! I hope you enjoy the Indian outfits (For all my Indian followers who have been asking me where I got these made, all the details are below!) and it gives you an idea of what to wear in India too! This past week has been a bit more glamorous than usual but a little sparkle never hurt anybody right?

After landing into Bombay last Tuesday, I immediately jetted off to New Delhi where I was attending a wedding. Indian weddings are usually a four-day extravaganza of colour and shine. There were five events in total but I’m sharing some of my favourite looks with you. It’s one of the few times I really get to get all dolled up and wear as many sparkles as my heart desires! Now that I’m back in Bombay, I will be sharing some more casual looks as well but till then, scroll down to see what I’ve been up to!

Taking off to India, this was one of my most comfortable travel outfits to date! I love a monochrome look because it is so easy and chic! You really can’t go wrong!

Sweater: Wildfox

Track Pants: Zara (Similar via Revolve here)

Sneakers: Gucci

I landed in and had to prep for a secret project! I can’t wait to share more but for now, I can show you the awesome new sunnies I got! Unfortunately, they were lost over the weekend but I am determined to find them! These ray-bans are the most flattering shape ever! I also am lucky enough to have gotten my hands on these adorable new bracelets from the Dior cruise collection! Such pretty colours!

Bracelets: Dior

Lip Colour: Nars Do Me Baby

The next day I was off to Delhi to attend a wedding! The festivities kicked off with a lovely dinner and the next day I sported this jumpsuit! You will never guess where it’s from! It’s super chic and super affordable! I also wore these shoes for almost every single event underneath all my huge outfits – they were super comfortable and let me stay on my feet all day and night!

Jumpsuit: Next

Shoes: Valentino

Next was the cocktail dinner. I wore one of my favourite dresses of all time from Self Portrait! I love that it isn’t your typical LBD. Unfortunately on the way back home I managed to get my heel stuck in the lace and my dress ripped! Luckily it’s being fixed as we speak! Phew!

Dress: Self Portrait (Similar via Self Portrait here and via ASOS here)

Shoes: Charlotte Olympia (another super comfy pair of heels regardless of the height!)

The following day was something called the “mehndi” and the “sangeet”. This is the henna ceremony where the bride and all the women get beautiful henna work done on their hands! The sangeet is when both the bride and grooms side perform dances and skits! It was a beautiful day with bursts of colour! I wore a yellow sari!

Sari: Bharavi Jaikishan

Sunglasses: Ray-Ban

This was by far my most favourite outfit. I got so many DM’s from you guys on Instagram asking me where I got this lehnga from. This particular piece is from one of my favourite Indian designers, Pallavi Jaikishan. I loved that the blouse was off-shoulder and this particular shade of pink is one of my favourites for sure! Plus the humongous skirt made me feel like a total princess!

Lehnga: Pallavi Jaikishan

Which Indian outfit is your favourite? What else do you want to see from my trip?

The Moment I Feel Most Empowered

Fashion blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker shares the moment she felt most empowered with Wolford tights

There have been moments I’ve felt pushed down…

Feminism has almost become a buzzword in 2017. We see it on everything from tee shirts to mugs, but what does it really mean to be a feminist? Don’t get me wrong, I have tons of those tee shirts and mugs too, but I truly believe that one of the things that come with being a feminist is empowering others around you. There have been many moments in my life that I have been brought down by others. In school, I was bullied not only by the boys in my class but by the girls too. As I’ve grown up, I’ve had countless of women around me try to bring me down, whether this be professionally or in my private life. One of the biggest challenges that women face, I believe, is this constant sense of competition that we have with another that leads us to push each other down and bully one another.

The worst part of it all is that there is no winner when that happens. The bully doesn’t gain anything and neither does the person they are bullying. I’ve learned this through my life and I’ve seen it first hand. In recent years, however, I have learned how powerful it is to empower others and feel empowered as well. That is why I was beyond excited when Wolford released their brand new tights. “You are the architect of your own beautiful chaos” are the words printed down the back. These words were written by Instagram sensation and feminist Nikita Gill, whose new book has also just released. What excited me even more, was when Wolford asked me to share what made me feel empowered.

I gave this a lot of thought. For a long time, I couldn’t pinpoint a single moment or thing that truly made me feel empowered. I re-lived both the positive and the negative moments in my life when it suddenly struck me. There was no one thing that empowered me, but rather there were many people. The women in my life, my mother, my great-grandmother, my best friends, the gorgeous girls I have become friends with through blogging (that’s you Andrea), the photographer who shot these gorgeous photos of me Anastasija, these women, make me feel most empowered. Don’t get me wrong, I have many male figures in my life who do so as well but what empowers me so much about these women is that they all understand how important it is to really encourage one another. We are all each other’s cheerleaders, we are all each others support systems and when things get tough we are all each others guiding lights. There is nothing more refreshing than women who are not afraid to help each other and I find that to be the most empowering and hopeful thing.

So what makes you feel most empowered?

The Number One Way To Wear A Slip Skirt in the Winter

Fashion blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker showcases how to wear a summer skirt in winter

Don’t put that slip skirt away…

After a while of browsing through photos of sweaters and jeans on Pinterest, we start to run out of some great winter outfit ideas. For me, I love to get creative with my combinations and I’m always thinking of new ways to provide you guys with some outfit inspiration while encouraging you to be adventurous with your wardrobe. If there’s anything that’s trending right now it’s that Topshop slip skirt that we all want to get our hands on.  If you did manage to get it, or a similar one like this one you can create a beautiful winter outfit.

The number one way for you to rock your favorite summer slip skirt this winter is easier than you think. Grab your favorite chunky sweater and throw it on over the skirt. I paired this beautiful silk skirt that you may remember from my trip to Santorini, with this super chunky and frilly black sweater from Claudie Pierlot. I love the mix of textures that the two pieces create together! I think that an outfit is much chicer when you don’t get lost in it so to define my silhouette I added in a belt. I find that it really brings the outfit together.

The final touch would, of course, be a pair of thigh high boots. After all, you have to make sure you’re warm! My boots and sweater kept me super cozy and I was so happy I was able to wear this skirt! You can also try to recreate this look with your favorite summer dress by simply throwing a chunky sweater over it! If you remember I did that recently on my Instagram!

What do you think? Will you be trying this super cool outfit?

How I Make Old Pieces In My Wardrobe Look New Again

Fashion blogger Shloka Narang of The Silk Sneaker shares how to refresh your wardrobe and make old pieces feel new again

Let’s hit refresh…

With every new season, we constantly look at our closet full of clothes and think “I need something new” but recently I’ve been asking myself, do I really? I think that the key to making good choices while shopping is to make sure that what you buy will last you for more than a season. After all, that’s really how you start to develop a sense of personal style.

Recently, I’ve been inspired to take old pieces in my closet and wear them in new ways to make them feel fresh and new for a new season. Just because it’s been in your wardrobe for more than a season, doesn’t mean it isn’t stylish! It also really helps put all the pieces in your wardrobe to the test, of whether they are truly worth their buck! One of my favorite pieces is this pair of Topshop trousers I bought a couple of years ago. I love the colour because it’s so classic and the fit is amazing. I wore these pants to Paris Fashion Week and really wanted to style them again!

I paired these pants with a top that is almost four years old! I have so much black and white in my closet but this is one of those tops I just cannot say no to – there is something so classic and chic about it and it lasts me season after season! To really give the look a fresh feel I paired it with a waist bag from Helmer. I loved how the metallic details of the bag make this outfit feel so shiny and new! Completed with a pair of sock boots and a coat I have literally been wearing on repeat, all my old pieces suddenly felt so fresh. Could you have ever guessed that I’ve worn these pieces a thousand times before on the blog too?

How do you make your old pieces feel new? Where do you go for your style inspiration?
